well now that you mention it Mallow there is alot of threads that need to be closed in the off-topic section. Mainly this one and the picture thread IMHO.

LOL. That was really random.

I think a lot of the guys at my school are very bisexual. There is this one dude who gets all the girls and what not, and is just too cool for his own good, but he has a group of friends that I think he is just WAY too close to. One of them is one of my friends and he says that he tries to come on to him a lot. 21.gif
There are a lot of cliques at my school that are just wayyy too close all the time. They ALWAYS hang out with each other, they are usually of the same sex, and strangely enough, there are more male cliques than female cliques, with all members denying being gay.

That's just my analysis of the situtation.

The weirdest thing about human sexuality is the way you look at people. I'm about 80 percent straight, but every once in a while I'll look at another guy at school and think... He's cute....

Well this is certainly an enlightening thread for everyone, and I am glad to see so many gays that aren't afraid to talk about their sexuality.
I do still hold my stance on gay marriage though, but I don't mean it an offensive way.

Good wishes to the gay community here,

Changing the topic slightly, I would like to tell a story involving me and a girl I liked (it was mutual, but ill get to that). She happened to have a boyfriend and was bisexual. I didnt find this stuff out until after awhile. The boyfriend left a little bit after her sexuality came out. Of course, people found out that I liked her (I dont like other ppl in my business unless I tell them about it), and people grouped the bisexual story and the story involving me toghether. Everything that happened after that was pure irony. The girl I had tried to use to give her messages happened to be #2 on her list and told the whole school that I was trying to use her as a messanger. This all happened the night I was hanging out with 2 other girls, one of which she (main girl in story) liked. Had I not headed to another group of ppl for another 5 minutes, I would have been there when she found out that she (main girl in story) liked her. It seemed that every girl I talked to for the next several days was somehow connected to her. I was hanging out with one of her friends while I was skipping class; etc like that. Things did settle out eventually, but not without me having wasted the whole year being third in line behind a guy and a girl. Oh and by the way, the boyfriend was friends with one of my friends.
And this was only a fraction of what happened in my freshman year in high school.

Is it just me or have I not seen joex in a long time? Nice to see you!

And interesting, ironic story BTW. I think it's appropriate, but that's not my decision to make.

If this topic isn't appropriate, then I vote that the whole Off-Topic section be closed... there are lots of subjects and threads that are no less important to its participants than this one. No, I am not into flaming at all, but I do find certain social conservatism and self-censorship a bit Soviet style, or Finlandizational, as it was in my country during the times of the Great Big Brother watching over your shoulder. I thought we all lived in a big continuum of democracy with possibility of free speech?

I think its appropriate. Im not going to get political, tho. I take a very dim view of people with an over-the-top stance on political correctness. Well, the last person to cross me was my sister. If we wasn't hundreds of miles from home I would have thrown her out of the car.

And was that joex just laying down then? Quite the opposite from my near-lethal defensiveness, lol!

Your correct it really needs to be removed Mickibear.  No one here really needs to know other members lifestyles. Now when you combine the younger members pics along with the fact that they are gay it could bring un-wanted people to ST. Its really more for the protection of our younger members than try to smother anyones beliefs.

Right, I see that now. Before I was just thinking that if people were offended, they didn't need to read the thread, lol!

Subedei you have a point, but in all honesty I think the only thread that truly needs to be closed is the Picture thread. Other than that I don't see why this would be inappropriate.

Okay, I'm confused. So you say that pictures of younger members combined with the fact that some of them are gay could bring unwanted people to ST. Did I paraphrase accurately?

How would this be different if everyone here posted their pictures and was also straight? Granted, perhaps pictures of our young members could attract certain malfactors, but sexuality wouldn't make a difference in that case. The kinds of people to whom I believe you are referring don't really care whether their intended victims are gay or straight.

I believe the moderators do an excellent job of keeping the malfactors out. And the biggest reason I love this forum is because it's about much more than just Sim games. It's uniting people with a common interest. Perhaps it's not 100% safe, but I think it's reasonably so. Most people here are surprisingly mature, I think. Keep everything as is.

HI GB, I read this post and laughed, just being yourself is the most important thing, especially when it makes you happy.

I also think this thread is one of the more mature ones on ST and people who think it should be shut because it might offend a small minority are trying to bolt the stable door after the horse has bolted.

I totally agree with you. This should have been closed a while ago...There are still young kids here, and this could attract unwanteds. THis is a very mature topic and should be taken to another forum.

I truly don't believe that the subject of orientation is a mature subject.

In fact, if it were discussed with children at a younger age, perhaps many gay or bisexual children wouldn't have to deal with the torment of thinking that they're strange and not at all like the rest of their peers.

It happened to me, I know what I'm talking about here.

Anyway, I think that this is quite a dignified subject, indeed justified for those who not only participate in it, but who read it as well. I mean, if you really don't want to participate in it, then don't. Thank you.

Besides, this thread has kept such a positive direction for the first five pages, let's keep that going!

I see no reason to remove this thread or the off-topic section whatsoever. This thread is very clean and friendly, and this issue was addressed openly and without any conflicts.

It is true that there is no real need to know the sexual orientation of other posters, or where they live, or what they look like, or what their cats look like, but it is nice to talk about something other than Sim City and this section gives ST a great sense of community. This is not strictly a place of business; we are not wasting time talking to each other about various random things on company time. I enjoy the sense of community at ST, and I feel it would be lost if there were no off-topic section. Sure, the official website does not have an off-topic section, but a corporation worrying about money runs that board, plus it only has its sense of community because there is nobody there. ST can ask for donations when they are running low on funds, and the members are more than happy to donate.

I do not believe it is a good idea to be sheltering our younger members from this topic of homosexuality. It is best for them to learn to be accepting of others' lifestyles, if you ask me. I see nothing politically incorrect about homosexuality, and I am glad to see so many members that share this view. I am also glad to have been able to discuss this issue in a very informed, open manner and hope to be able to do so for pages to come.

Well, the mods have spoken, and I'm sure they'll let us know if this goes in the wrong direction, but in the meantime, let's drop the debate over whether the thread belongs here, eh?2.gif

Hmmm...I would tend to think the community would benefit greatly from having a thread such as this, where members with issues that they need to talk about can do so with people that they know and people that care and can empathize, not just sympathize, with them because they are experiencing the same thing.  Being able to talk with a mature person about something that is weighing very heavily is a great thing, not something to be shunned because it might offend someone somewhere.  Shutting your eyes is never better than talking about something important like this.

I was trying to end the should-this-thread-be-here argument, and it would have been a lot quicker and easier to just ask not to talk about it. Oh well. Enough of that sillyness.

What do you all think of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy?

Okay, mentarman was right; this thread isn't going to be closed down as of yet, let's keep that in mind. I'm glad, BTW, because this thread really is quite a mature one, yet it's handled in a greatly dignified member. I'm proud to be a member of SimTropolis.

Anyway, to keep with the current subject, I have watched Q.E. very rarely, although I know who all of the characters are, more or less.

I must admit though, that although these men are quite talented at what they do, I am rather disgusted at how many gay stereotypes they manage to slam into their personalities and whatnot. They really are quite garden-variety gay people.

There is one man that I adore on that show though, and that's Ted Lusk (Food & Wine). He's an extremely talented cook, a great person (he appears to be, anwyay), and he handles himself in a very classy fashion. I mean, he doesn't, for a lack of better terminology/vernacular, act gay. You know what I mean? He is a very intelligent and well presented individual, and I think that he should have his own show on the Food Network! 18.gif

    Go Ted! And go SimTropolis!

Who here thinks that Orlando Bloom is slightly overrated? Am I right?

Seems like everytime I talk to one of my female friends, they're always talking about him. He just doesn't strike me as all that attractive. Anyone else with me on this?

Let's stop beating a dead horse, shall we?  The moderators have already given their approval and the discussion has been quite civilized so far.  Don't visit if you don't like it.

On to other matters.  I don't watch Queer Eye, nor will I ever.  I gave up on makeover/decorating shows a long time ago.  It was just too disappointing to see the end result: Ew, what did they do to that kitchen?!

I concur that Orlando Bloom is overrated.  He's good-looking, not great-looking.  He's a good actor, not a great-actor.  Well, at least he's not mediocre.  Johnny Depp really outshined him in Pirates of the Carribean.

Give me Viggo Mortensen any day!

And I must say, Sir Ian McKellan has aged quite well.

this is the off topic forum so its not applied to the game or anything so if you want to talk about the game go to another fourm...

i know that some people are threatened by sexual topics or topics that they dont agree with... well if you dont agree with it dont look just because you dont agree with it doesnt mean everyone else doesnt agree with it

ST is a place where people can talk about civilized topics such as the terrorist bombings last week in london... they had a whole thread about that... im sorry but i would feel more threatened by terrorists then a sexual topic ~edited~ A.C.

plus we really arent talking about sex... we are talking about people who are and how they deal with how they are... and fourm for people who dont know whats going with there bodies can have support...

    GLBTs ARE PEOPLE TOO!10.gif

as for the topic at hand...

i have been having questions about my oreintation lately... and im glad that people here would take it better than people at home... and i know my sister is gonna see this and she i gonna be surprised but its been on my mind for a long time and just want it off it before it rots inside of me...

thank you GB for making this topic

btw... the mods said that this is ok so get over it... its gonna be around for awhile
