With the release of the BAT, it was inevitable that those who can teach will teach, and those who can model will model, followed by the rest, of which the BAT is an enigma <ahttps://community.simtropolis.com/assets/emoticons/22.gif>

Rather then having all the Tutorials pinned like a cluttered Bulletin board, this post is an index to all the tutorial threads that is available in this forum. I would advise checking through the tutorials before posting questions that may harm your future EQ/HQ in Simtropolis <ahttps://community.simtropolis.com/assets/emoticons/22.gif>

Simple. Go into the BAT and Attach all of the objects composing of the house. Then Scale the house according to whatever it should be. (16 x16 tiles in BAT=1 tile in SimCity)

w000t! Thanks!

Edit: Wait a minute...by attach do you mean group? And where do you GO to scale the building?

Well, you shouldn't attach all the objects composing the house into a single object. You should use the group menu to group a selection of objects. Just select all the objects you wish to scale, and group them. Then, scale the group using the standard scale tool. If you set your grid to equal 1 meter, you should be able to accurately estimate the proper size.

It's not really a tutorial, but my thread BAT Lot Development 101 - A Compendium of Information may be useful to those embarking on a BAT project. It walks through all steps between a BAT idea and publishing a BAT Lot on the STEX. It also acts as an index to some really useful info I've found on ST relating to all things to do with BAT Lot development.

So I've started tinkering with Gmax using this helpful tutorial. I've got walls, a ceiling, a floor, but I cannot get anything to snap.

When I go to the snap settings, I get this:

menu1.jpg?dc=4675477408482916167

However, the menu in the tutorial looks like this:

menu2.jpg?dc=4675477408486993204

As you can see, I can click on the vertex, but I get no vertex, and no snap action to the doorframe in the tutorial. None of the options in the lower half of that menu even show up. What on earth is going on here...

I will be shocked if my pictures actually show up.

Accually you do have the right menu. He tends to overlap images to save space. If you looking for the 3d snap button it is to the right of the coordinates (X,Y,Z)

This crap has become unbelievably frustrating and irritating.

I have finished the modeling part, and I TRYING to texture the thing. I have read the texture tutorial. Here is the explicit direction given to apply the first texture.

We'll begin at the beginning. Start by creating a new material and follow through above to select mjbB00002.tga. Make sure the little box that lets the texture show in the perspective view is clicked on. Select Wall - Front, apply a UVW Map to it, and pick Box from the rollout. Hit Apply in the Material Editor to put the new texture on the wall.

Well guess what, I have tried this by following all of these steps item by item, and by trying to get the texture to apply many other ways. Unfortunately, once I get the wall selected, the UVW map applied, the box checked, and the texture picked, I suddenly CANNOT click the apply button.

Yarg, this is uber frustrating.

Yeah I had the same problem. Here's what you do. After you do all the things you did. Load new texture and apply the map. Do this:
Notice that the texure is laid out flat. You got to get it on that ball thing. So go back in to the Material Navigator. Pick the little circle beside the word entire. You'll notice all the texures you loaded to the Material Editor. Find the one you want to apply. There should be two of the same one. One laid out flat and the other on a ball. Double click the one on the ball, then you should be able to apply. That should work... Just wait it gets even more confusing in lighting and exporting. Well Good Luck. Feel free to ask any other questions. I'll try to help.

This was the ultimate thread that I was looking for, but a lot of the links are now updated because we are now in Simtropolis 4.0. So is there any chance the links could be updated at the top? Especially as I can't seem to find phillipbo's Essential BAT Tutorial anywhere at the moment!

Thanks.

Yeah, I was also wondering what happened to Phillpbo's tutuorial. I usually end up using it whenever I BAT because I only get around to it every couple of months and often forget the details!

EDIT: Thanks to who ever put it back 9.gif!

I am having the night texture combo box is empty problem. I did a reinstall and it did not fix it. I can see the texture directories and the texture files, but they do not appear in the BAT rollout's combo box.

This has probably been asked before, but would some one point me to the solution, please.

Appdendix D, E & F are not working and are giving server errors. I didn't check all of them, there could be more. Can an admin check on this so I can look at the tutorials? Thanks

Edit:

I figured out how to render in the BAT. I will stick with just textures though. Textures are my best skill and a viable contribution to ST.
Gmax was still fun to learn, but my high-end software use has spoiled me. I will stick with Poser and B5.5, for making models and textures.

Keep on keepin' on.

Actually as I work through these I find a LARGE amount of the links (33-50%) of the links DON'T WORK. Including ONE OF THE NEW labeled ones. Pretty sad commentary on the maintenance level of Simtropolis. I find this especially sad when it is OBVIOUS that so many people put SO MANY HOURS of their own time into learning and creating these items, then being UNSELFISH enough to post them to broaden and improve the community. Then to have the bulletin board drop them, lose the pic links, let them expire into obsolete links (a term I find a bit piculiar on a game that is what? 3 years old? and people are still exploring and enjoying.). On this board, it seems that without regard to the value of content, the thread is automatically obsolete if it is over about 3 months..  pretty sad indeed. You will note that, even though I noted the bad links above, noone has made any move to correct the problem. I guess the admins on the board are much too busy worrying about slamming people for posting to old threads and writing nasty comments about it.. takes a lot of time I suppose. I note on average it takes about 3 hours to get a response from any of those.. 29.gif

Well, to those still digging to  learn and improve: KEEP WORKING!! 1.gif  Have a good one, all.

SC4BOY: Your first post was okay, friend. you should probably give them some time to fix it or explain. then try PM'ing the mod of this specific forum. patience will take you farther than criticism.

Thanks for bringing it to ST's attention, much appreciated.

Important Edit: Use the Omnibus table of contents and you will see all these tutorials do work. The Omnibus is in the left side bar of ST homepage.
A great recource for quick perspective on the entire site! Interviews, tutorials and game stratagy/Hints, can be found there in the Omnibus.
