The bottom section says it all. Horrible rating and you need to shell out around $30 just for an expansion pack for a seaport and airport.

And if that wasn't convincing enough, look at this: http://catalog.ebay.com/SimCity-Societies_014633157451?_fifpts=1&_pcatid=2&_pid=60703477&_refkw=simcity&_trksid=p3286.c0.m271

I wouldn't say it's the worst game ever, it's just not a engaging as SimCity 4 or The Sims for that matter.

I got this, played it for about a day, then went back to SC4. The problem is theres no slope on buildings, and buildings aren't made different by small prop changes, they are exactly the same.

not the worst game ever though

worst game ever?quote>

No game can ever be as bad as ET or Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing. So no, it's not. 3.gif

Empire Earth 3, worst game ever. I just can't believe that Sierra turns the epic game Empire Earth into a piece of crap. Even Simcity Societies isn't as bad as E.E.3

"If you try to please everybody, you often times end up pleasing nobody, especially yourself. When somebody offers to do a favor for free, like making a mod for SimCity 4, you shouldn't be overly critical of something generously given to you. In other words, you shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth." - Twilight Sparkle after playing SimCity

"Being a mayor or a content creator for SimCity 4 is a heavy responsibility, Patrick. Each city and each custom content is like a child, and must be treated as such." - SpongeBob Squarepants after playing SimCity

"Without deviation from the norm, progress is not possible." - Frank Zappa

"The wisest men follow their own direction." - Euripides

as far as the city building genre goes, it definitely is the worst.

I played it for about 5 hours and then uninstalled it. What a waste of money.

It really did re-affirm for me that simcity 4 is a masterpiece, especially since i discovered the stex on simtropolis!

Beijing 2008 is the worst game of all time though...

When a game is outsold by a predecessor released 5 years earlier, you know that it cannot be a great game.

SCS is not horrible. That's just because we are used to SC4 and that's a whole different setting. Besides that, it's just a matter of taste.

I read up on Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing. Sim City Societies, based on what I've heard, is nowhere near as bad. However, Sim City Societies still is a bad game.

Sometimes, when I play SC4 for a long time, I somewhat get sick of it (a sin just saying that) and I find myself playing SCS with my totalitarian government in the city of Oceania. Inspired by George Orwell's "1984."

Also, I saw TV-VCR's comment.  E.T. was amazing because it was terrible and it was unique of how one game could totally ruin a once Big-Brother corporation, Atari.  I have never played the trucker game, but I have seen reviews on it.  Superman 64 was awful and so was Aquaman. 26.gif

Aquaman is probably one of the worst superheros ever....lol  17.gif

There is another reason why we hate it, the title. EA would have never been under fire if they didn't slap the "SimCity" on their kiddie game as an attempt to lure the hardcore fans to buy it. As a result, we all ended up thinking SCS was a real sequal to SC4.

I think the correct title would be, "SimSocialism" or "The Sims' City", and a sub-title underneath it, "For little kids".

Wow, I laughed out loud when I read the Big Rigs. "You're Winner!" 18.gif

Anyway, I don't actually own the game, but from what I see, it's not quite as good as SimCity 4. I do like the idea of creating your city based on different societies, though.

I played SCS pretty extensively before very recently coming back to SC4 after a four year hiatus (I'd given up on it because of the transit issues). It's true that SCS is a really easy game, *if* you play it on the easy difficulty settings. I never played on the harder settings, so for all I know it could become quite a challenge. But the point of SCS is completely different from SC4, and most people here don't seem to get the distinction. SCS is for the most part a creative challenge: build the best looking/most interesting city you can, because you have some absolutely beautiful graphics and graphic effects to work with that quite frankly blow away anything in SC4. The raw landscape one starts with can be truly breathtaking, especially the deserts; the camera options allow for views that don't exist in SC4; and the day/night cycle is beautiful to watch, and even changes character depending on which 'society' you've opted for. So seriously, unless you've really given it a try and not just dabbled for a few hours, don't disrespect SCS. For the player who loves the aesthetic aspect of city building, it's a damn good game.

I have given it a try. Certainly the graphics are much better, and it does represent the careful thought that you say.

The are new things like selecting between authoritarian, capitalistic, etc. (types of society) that can be nice. The developers also deserve to be lauded for releasing a patch that actually changed game play after the initial criticism. The expansion is also a nice addon with the vacation stuff too. However, the game play feels much more simplistic, much more shallow.

Another thing that is so very displeasing is the inability of the players like us to mod and add more custom content like we do.

It may not be the worst game ever (I'd give that to as one person said above Empire Earth 3; and I loved Empire Earth 1), but it is a failure to the Simcity series.

There really is no way that SCS is the worst game ever. I read up on that ET game. And, it was so bad that almost all copies were refunded. It was so bad that every copy was buried in the New Mexico desert. That ET game puts SCS into perspective... and, I'd just say that it would be wise to call the game an "okay" game.

I've played SC4 since it first came into the stores and began playing it again when I joined the Stex en bsc exchange. Up untill now.

When SCS came out I downloaded the demo, but I was appalled. Toony graphics and way to childish. I can Imagine that children like it. My worst game ever is Dawn of War 2. I played dawn of war 1 extensively online and well....they ruined the entire warhammer atmosphere and feeling of carnage. 4 squads is what you get and thats it.
