Hi GlobexCo,

sounds interesting, I'm always interested about Sci-Fi projects.

Tell us more on what your project is about.

Regarding your BATs, very nice start! What's the function supposed to be?

Maybe create some new props for your lots.

Look forward to more 4.gif

    Hello andisart
I saw lots of city project, from SimMars to green utopian cities, and I also searched in japanese sites if there were some interesting sci-fi palace; but my dream is to create a real sci-fi city, with hover car, strange skyscraper, hi-tech transports,..... I don't know very much about modding, but I've got many ideas on sci-fi palaces that I can build with BAT (only a problem of time).
    In the two pictures:
Helicenter (the first) has been created as a helicopter base (it has two platforms on the top)
Docks (the second) has been created as a building that you can place on canals, with four docks and a warehouse for trucks.
I'm also creating a sci-fi sunken highway wall.
The dream and the purpose of the Globex Corporation: a science fiction project for future cities (a project like SimMars)

I always liked science fiction theme addons, like spaceships and Coruscant towers. I can't help for the textures because I'm not a BATer, but i can give you an advice. Visit http://www.thevenusproject.com/ , you will find lot's of great buildings for inspiration :-D

What we need is the experience of other people to make that: (EDIT)

    Transports:

    puzzle kit for maglev

hanging monorail network (HMN) - finishing

    texture set for networks

    hover cars

    Buildings:

    growable buildings

    rewards

    school - started

    police stations

    fire stations

    Parks:

lots of new parks and canals

And also new menus, new BATs, new initiatives, ....

(I can do something in years of work, but I can't do everything)

I'm speaking about a team - I don't want this project to be forgotten!

Thank you terring for the link, amazing pictures!

Pretty much everything you mentioned is alredy made. Youll just have to look around on Japaneese sites to find them.

Here is a good link collection

Also, this site is not a place where you can come and ask people to form a personal request team. If you are only looking to have other people do all the work for you, no one will want to join the team unless you do work in the areas yourself.

You seem to be doing that now but the requests you have are all going to take a long time to do,and i doubt many people will jump at the chance to work your project unless they are into that kind of stuff becsue doing it will take alot of work.

Ummh, I'll work again to this project because I believe in it. Somewhere in the future (maybe at the end of May) I'll upload some new productions related to this project on the STEX. I can do it by myself, my only problem is about transports puzzle kits because I don' know anything about transit enabled lots and how does NAM pieces are made. I trusted in a little help from experts modders. Anyway, no one can give me some advices about complex TE lots?

I will retry to ask help from other people in the future, maybe someone will be interested.

Xyloxadoria, I can open only two or three of those links, do you have the same problem?

As long as you want to build only a city that looks Sci-Fi (eye-candy only), that would be the easier task.

Creating a whole functional mod as the attempt of SimMars will be much more work since you need to get everything working properly.

Look forward to more BATs. Show us ur sci-fi sunken highway 4.gif

Some things of this project can be functionally (for example hanging monorail and streets texture), but many other things must be eye-candy - maybe in future they won't be eye-candy.
This is a picture of a parking lot for the sunken highway wall (better fo avenues, you can park in it and then you can go to your home on foot!)

I have to ask one question that I always ask with any transit lots. What happens when you place them over a developed lot? Placing a roundabout over a lot will delete the lot, but not the building. Assuming you transit enable this, what will happen when it's plopped? But I have to say, it looks pretty great!

Jumpthefence: when you plop a transit enabled building like this near a road, Simcity will automatically build a road or a street (or the transit network that you enabled) to connect them. This lot (street TE), when is placed in the sunken avenue (obviously not highway) a street will link the avenue. I think that the street will trasform the 15m slope of sunken a. to 0m, so you'll need another lot to cover the new slope.

Fresh Prince of Wmbg: this airplane seems like a rocket, a good idea for replacing UDI maxis airplanes.

Some images from actual works. This palace will be perfect for new condos near a canal, maybe texture is too dark, but Simcity always makes models lighter. The second picture is an image from the Venus project where I took the idea

In the picture of that site the building had black glass windows. What do you suggest, Gn_leugim, transparent glass or a particular texture?

Terring, if you have other SC2000 hi-tech palaces, can you post them? They're very similar to Transport Tycoon architecture for future cities, they're good for sci-fi agriculture.

mightygoose, some pictures are very interesting. Unfortunately, a couple of palaces were painted only for perspective view (Sant'Elia and other old architects), but there are many photos where the concept of different street levels is represented very well.

I'm actually working on some palaces that have entrances at different levels (0, 8, 15, ... m). When the HMN will be finished I'll work also on a puzzle kit for different street levels. It will be only eyecandy (what can you do if you put these pieces around a palace with entrances at 15m North and 0m South, and this growable palace is replaced by another with different entrances??? 32.gif 2.gif.

This is a palace that I've seen in Coruscant (SW episode II)

There's a problem in the UWVmap of the texture of the lateral wall when I click preview, I took this picture before resolving it. I'll remeber to do this, thank you Jasoncw.

What about roads and cars? In my opinion, replacing actually car models with hover cars is a good idea and also modify some NAM models to create different level roads. But road textures? Some ideas? Maxis road textures aren't so bad, but they aren't neither sci-fi nor "dirty" sci-fi.

I was thinking about more futuristic network a while ago actually, and though about a network that looks like a park with pedestrian pathways, but the cars are flying about 50-100m above it.

For example in the Boston Big Dig they replaced the highway through the city with parks and then made the highway underground (exactly the same except instead of being underground the cars fly over the park)

I think that is easy to do, just replacing car models with other models that are few meters above it. It's a good idea to build a city like coruscant, but if I want to build a rural highway? Another solution is to create lots of parks as puzzle pieces and modify SC4paths. It seems too difficult for me, but I can try to do it (after finding the files in the NAM that allows you to use TAB and make puzzle pieces). Maybe I'll do this after HMN project.

The result of this project: high skyscraper and lots of flying things.

I think in order for this project to succeed, you'll need to very carefully define the scope of the project.  To properly finish (good quality) the buildings you've alread started will take a few months.  Getting organized and modding a hover car will take a few months.  You can see how BATing a bunch of buildings and a bunch of hover cars would take a really long time.

If I were in your position, I would take a week or two (or more), just planning out what the most important aspects of the project are, how much time each aspect would take, what skill level is required for each, how many people exist with those skill levels, out of those people who might have an interest in the project, etc.  Then perhaps I would plan out a few different versions of the project, each one assuming a different levels of participation.

What you're describing seems equal in scope to SimMars, which has had a lot of work done on it by quite a few people, but still has quite a bit more work that needs to be done.

I think that SimMars lets you colonise Mars, instead of Earth. And a lot of BATs in STEX are very good for actual Earth paesage, not for a hi-tech future. For example, what can I use if I want to build New York in 3500? Mars BATs are a different type of sci-fi, or they aren't sci-fi. Take a look at the pictures posted by mightygoose or terring, I don't think they are good for SimMars! Also Maxis textures and palaces aren't good for a future city.

So, what can I use to build a city of the 35th century? That project is the answer 2.gif 2.gif

    More clear now?

What I mean though, is that both your project and SimMars would take a similar amount of work (making a bunch of new buildings, lotting them, modding the transit networks, automata, etc.).

Right now, from my understanding, the plan for your project is to make enough BATs so that you can functionally play the game with only futuristic buildings, and to replace the automata and transit networks with futuristic ones.

When do you plan on having those things done? In May of 2010? You'd have to BAT, lot, and modd one building a week for that entire time, and you'd have to make a few automata a month, and replace about one transit network a month in order to meet that deadline. If you want to have the project playable in May of 2011, you'll need to do a BAT every two weeks instead.

So what I mean is, you'll need to plan exactly what it is that you want to accomplish, and exactly how to accomplish it.
