Hi everyone.

I do have some problems with my GLR.

I downloaded the latest NAM and stated creating a small tram link with a loop at both ends. I builded some stations to it. (deleted a part of track, plopped the station and connected it to the tramline.

But nothing happens. I don't see a single vehicle on it. Do I need to build a depot or so?

And is there anyone who knows where I can find a clear description on how to build a good GLR?

You might have a look at simcityplaza.de and search for GLR -- this will provide you a tutorial (Linkie: http://www.simcityplaza.de/content/view/430/213/). Basically your problem seems to be a known one: there is a problem with linking the track to the station when using puzzle peaces - sometimes you will need so "save & exit to region" in order to have a continous path throughout the station. For traffic to take place you just need the tracks and the station. However, if there are some additional networks like roads, busses, the sims might prefer to use them instead of the tram. So the second condition to see traffic on your GLR is that your sims accept it as useful.. ;-)). E.g. if they can reach theyr destination easier (meaning with a shorter commute time) by using other networks, they will do so.

But basically I suppose after reading the tutorial you will be able to solve all of these problems.

Have fun!

Peter

    Hi there,

I have trams running beautifully all over my city, so I can help you with a few things.

Firstly, just because you downloaded a station doesn't mean you will have trams. I suggest beginning your GLR experience with this pack (BSC SFBT GLR Tram Mod) first:

    https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=13665

    - and then branching out as you feel comfortable. This pack will spawn it's own trams (in four different nifty colours, mind you) and is easy to use. You can also drive them in U-Drive It!

Once you have plopped a station don't forget to drag elevated rail over the station. Check out this tutorial (you may have to register):

    https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=4623.0

    Good luck!

To see any usage of your network, you must connect residences to workplaces (C & I). Commute is the only kind of traffic in SC4.

You can also make a simple test, just take a UDI mission for el (don't need to save your city after you're done), to ensure that the track is connected properly.

I think I also remember hearing that you need to quit to region after you have built your GLR network and then go back into your city for trams to appear.

That certainly seems to be the case for me anyways.

Do you have the latest (March 2009) NAM?  If so, go to the Misc Transportation Menu.  Go to the Draggable Ground Light Rail menu, select it, and press TAB until the GLR-El Rail transition shows up on your tool tip--it's near the end.  Or press Shift-TAB, and it will start from the end, less pressing.  3.gif

    Enjoy the game.

I have found that the tram-in-road station will be activated after dragging the one-way road over it after plopping it down. Traffic will run both ways despite using the one-way road tool. However, with tram-in-avenue stations, you may need to drag the one-way road tool over it both ways. I have GLR lines operating in two cities and had them running without having to exit the city.

Well, if you're looking for stations, you can search the STEX for 'GLR Stations' or 'Tram Stations'. Several will come up. You'll probably want to get the newer ones (probably created or updated since 2007) so they will function with the current NAM version without extra work. I'm pretty sure that the instructions are incuded (at least the ones I'm familiar with are). Hope it gets you what you need...
