Hello all - I know this probably belongs in the Technical affairs thread (and will probably be moved there), but it's in regard to recent problems with the website that where brought up in that thread by another user, but where never addressed.

I have copied and pasted his complaint, as it is the same as mine:

"2. I cannot scroll through the latest posts on the front page using "more". I click it but nothing happens. I can see the first page of posts though

3. I cannot see comments on stex uploads. The little "getting comments" gif just keeps whizzing around forever. Clicking on the comments tab does nothing.

I have latest java, flash etc installed, or at least I think I do, I have checked on the respective websites.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. H."

I also, have updated everything and tried everything, even downgraded to earlier versions of Firefox (when the site used to work), all to no avail. I have tried disabling/removing all addons and extensions, still nothing. i have tried using Internet Explorer - same problems.

To be even more specific, when i used to click open an upload on the STEX, it would open as a seperate box with the picture/description, and a seperate tab would be in that box for comments. Now when I click open a STEX upload, the entire page goes to the description/picture, without the seperate tab for comments. At the bottom of the description, it says "loading comments" and a little green wheel spins and spins, and the comments never appear.

Also, the main JPEG on the Main page with the Omnibus "advertisement" never appears - it's just a large, blank white box.

I have the latest version of Firefox, Java, Flash, everything. I have tried every available troubleshooting option on my end for maybe a few weeks up to a month, including using another browser (IE 7). I am at a total loss.

Any ideas would be appreciated

thanks for the suggestion! Alas, no luck...

It's all very strange - I've been coming to the site off and on for years, and these probs started happening just this March. At first glance it would seem like an update to something, like Firefox or an addon.

BUT - Internet Explorer, which I never use, does the exact same things, with one exception: I can see the "New Omnibus"  graphic on the main page. (????)

Otherwise, same probs exist: "latest forum posts" do not rotate like they used to, and when i press "More", nothing happens. STEX uploads no longer pop up in separate window, and I cannot see the comments at all. (and yes, I've tried allowing pop-ups, even specifically for this site) Also, I think I used to be able to hover over "Forums" and see all of the subcategories, now it doesn't do that - I have to click on forums to see them.

I have Kapersky anti-virus, could a bug in an  update interefere with website content? I've got NO problems with any other website.

I'm just stumped...

No other browsers, I use Windows Vista 32.

You might try deleting the Simtropolis cookie so it will reset on your next logon.. it's possible that it's become messed up somehow

I can't seem to perform a search. Anything I search for simply gives me the following message: "Your search contained ignored words, ignored words are words like a,and,to,between. Please re-construct your search without these ignored words."

That happens with every search I try to perform, even if I haven't used any of those words.

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and using Firefox 3.6.3.

I still can't access anything in the STEX. Everything in the middle is unclickable, aka, all the downloads. I can see them, but I can't access them.

I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64bit and using Firefox 3.6.3

Little friend: Standard ST search does not work, instead use Google search function. Suggestion to dirk/admins: Since the standard search does not function, why don't you just remove it?

Jake_Lava: Don't have that problem on XP, with the same browser. Try clearing your cookies, and try again.

I looked all over my settings... and nothing. I can't find a way to make my avatar appear in the comments area on replies on other people's Posts. Is there a way I can have my draggie avatar show in that small icon area? My avatar would fit, but it somehow doesn't...

Annabelinda, what do you mean? You mean comment on the Stex, or in the new CJ section? Last one can't be found in the normal profile section, but is part of your 'Journal Profile', which can be edited here [linkie]. The STEX one however, should be your standard forum avatar, unless I missed something.

There have been problems in the past with using the "quick reply" window. It has been largely solved, but there are still some bugs lurking.

When I made the post HERE in the "quick reply" window, it gave me an error about having to be "between 1 and 255 characters" message and bombed me out of the page. I had to use the "reply" popup to make that reply you see there. As you can see from the message it should have worked fine.

edit: THIS LINK also fails with the message.. has this bug somehow crept back into the site after having been eliminated at one time? Once again it pops up an error message and totally bombs out your reply so you have to start the reply from scratch again.. very annoying... If the "quick reply" can't be made to work properly, why not just eliminate it?

For example THIS POST and THIS ONE were made with the "quick reply" window with no problems. Note that BOTH are longer than the one that was rejected.

Clearing my cookies has done nothing to solve the problem. Only did what I expected it to do, require me to log into everything again.

I won't do it with any other site. The mouse pointer will skip around, screen go blurry, and say This Program Is Not Responding. Is it just me or the site's server?

do you have any other browsers other than IE8?

sometimes the computer resets the time and th date. check that first, and correct yor time zone. Also, check windows for updates regularly, sometimes the optional updates are as valuable as the importaint updates.

The chatroom keeps on displaying the message, "Disconnected" while it is loading. Some of the members said that they were experiencing the same problem.

Hmm.. I added "filtering" by selecting forum blocks on my Profile, Personal Options, Category Blocking... this SEEMS to work properly for the "Latest Topics" posting, but seems not to work on the "Latest Posts" posting.

Well, there's no pop up for the STEX file anymore. Yes, i've disabled every single sodding pop up blocker in my rig, yet it still doesn't show. What's worse, i can't comment on the STEX files. Mods, don't delete like the last one.

Have you tried right-clicking on the link and selecting "Open in new tab"? I find that works perfectly for me.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.
