This is one of the best attempts at making a real city in Sim City 4. I was looking at some satellite maps of Dubuque and it looks very close to your version of it.

I live in Iowa and, if you could, I would really like it if you could do Des Moines or somewhere near there. 4.gif

I agree benjames. I used to live very near Dubugue myself, and find it to be very accurate. I think you took some creative liberties though, Dave, as I don't remember a rail yard by University Ave or a few other things you have in your city. Still excellent work. You did get my aunt's house at Five Points corner.

I now live in Michigan by the lake. When I am done with my current city. I will try to recreate where I am now.

love this cj, but what street mod do you use to make the streets, avenues and roads look used and grey?

Thank you guys for all of your comments!

So, since I came back from my holidays I spent a lot of my free time to find a new apartement... nad it's very hard!

Now I'm living with my brother until I'll find a new flat. I don't have a lot of place in my brother's flat. So all of my furnitures and also my computer are

    in a storage place...

Sorry for the unconvenience, but sure, the day I'll find a new home, I'll tell you!!!

Enjoy your summer and see ya!

My relatives live in the real Dubuque, IA, and I have been there several times. It is a nice little city. Your version of Dubuque, by the way, is one of the most realistic cities I have ever seen in SimCity!

David, don't worry... I am sure you gonna find a super one! Have a great summer, too, although I guess you have the same muggy weather as we have here in Austria, especially in Graz. However, enjoy summer and

    take care,

    Ren

It's been a while since I've been to the Journals and yours continues to set the standard for realism. As a result, I have modded several lots for which your work was the inspiration. Great job.

    Hello everyone!!!

I'm very proud to announce to you that I've moved to my new apartement!!! Since yesterday I've an Internet connexion!

I sleept seven weeks in my brother's flat, just had a simple computer for my current duties...

So, unfortunately, the video card of my computer crashed, I bough a new one and now my computer is Ok... but a problem never comes witout an another one, I had to re-install Window XP... I saved my cities, but not the pictures... : (

But, I can take some another mind-blowing pics from my city (I began before my graphic card crashes, to build downtown Dubuque, which were saved in my external hard disk)

This afternoon, I'm going to update the lastest drivers for my new graphic card, do some stuffs and install SimCity 4 + Deluxe!!! I'm very eager to start again with my CJ!

Thank you for your patience and support, I red all your post and it's very rewarding to continues this project!

    Hey David,

Glad to hear you have found a place of your own and that you are excited to continue work on this sensational project.

Looking forward to seeing your next update whenever you get the chance! BTW does your downtown area have some LRT or street rail?

Thank you MTLT_17... I hope. I bought a graphic card (Nvidia ENGT 220) It works perfectly but for Sim City 4, the game crashes just when the EA Games logo appears... I checked if I've got the right drivers (and also Direct X 9.0). Probalbly I missed one or probably my graphic card is too low for this kind of game.

I've Win XP, I tried to lauch the game under Win 98, but nothing... : (

If someone has an idea to solve this problem...

    Thanks and see ya!

David, good to hear about your new apartment. Hope you like, won't you?

I am really sad to hear about your computer issues, BUT: do you have a dual core processor? If yes, switch to only one core, that should do it. AND: set priority to 'high'. Mayber I could help...

    Good luck and take care,

    Ren

David, here's a quick guide to maybe solve the CTD problem, since you have a dual-core processor:

    1. launch the game by double-clicking on the desktop item

    2. simultaneously press CTRL+ALT+DEL to open the task manager

    3. left-click 'Simcity.exe' once to mark it

    4. right-click it to open the submenu

    5. right-click 'set priority' and choose 'high'

This will cause a warning window to pop up; just click 'Yes'.

    6. right-click again and choose 'set affinity'.

Here we go with the CPUs! I usually choose 'CPU 0'.

This should work. Remember that you do it like this every time you launch the game... 34.gif

Oh, and I thought to make this advice readable for everyone, maybe there are some more members who are faced with the same problem.

    Hope I could help, 29.gif

    take care,

    René

    Yay... and Wow!

I've always loved the wide open look of this CJ. It's a marked difference to the RL cities I'm used to.  The views of the cemetery and zoo are especially nice.
