Seems like the release of a new ipod lineup is becoming an annual thing.  While I do certainly enjoy the trend of "space capacity up, price down" apple has been following, it all feels like a gimick...even though they'll come out right in time for my 16th birthday, in a year's time my "new" ipod will be considered "old" by the time I'm 17. 3.gif

And IMO, the nanos continue to decline in aesthetic value with each new generation, but the ipod classic hasn't so that'll probably be the one I get (I don't have to keep getting a new one each time I fill one up, because 120gb is more than enough to serve my media needs and as a portable hard drive for backing things up 3.gif).

Keep calm and take photographs.

I love the new touches...the only thing i was disappointed about was the lack of a GPS chip...they instead embedded a Nike+ chip...nice, but i would rather have GPS built in. i love the volume controls on the side, and the speaker on the bottom...basically i think near christmas they'll prolly release another update (maybe as late as next march), but that one will likely have the GPS and possibly even the camera. if they were to add GPS functionality (including the turn by turn functionality that is rumored to be released near christmas) to the iPod touch, and increase the capacity, with its price already comparable to many GPS units, it would sell like hotcakes.

as for the new nanos, i like the new design...not quite as much as the second gen design, but i like it better than the fat nano. the event wasn't quite as big as i expected unless when i finish getting my 2.1 software, i suddenly can load webpages that use flash. other than that, this "big event" wasn't that big. personally i was expecting a refresh of the macbookpro line. guess we'll have to wait til christmas for that one.

Yeah and they are charging another $10 for the Ipod Touch upgrades. Why can't they give out for free?

Like Sony for the PSP.

The Speaker in the Touch is nice though.

no they arent...its free if you bought the upgrade to 2.0...it's only $10 if you haven't bought 2.0 yet. i can personally vouch for this as i am in the process right now...

I never understood why the Ipod touch is more expensive than an 8GB iPhone. The iPhone is 200 dollars, while the Ipod is 230 dollars. (maybe I'm just being cheap, but the Itouch doesn't have a camera and all that great stuff the phone has).

Then again, Apple ripped me off and charged 400 dollars for a phone that went down to 200 dollars in a matter of a few months. Not cool Apple.

ilikehotdogsalot: the iPhone is $199 if you sign for a 2 year contract with AT&T.

The real price is $599 for the 8gb Unlocked version.

This makes me think Apple is doing a good job at brainwashing people's mind. No wonder why the MACs are gaining alot of popularity.

Because you pay AT&T $30 (Or whatever the contract is...) a month and Apple gets a cut of that.

More iPods = more income = more competition from other technology companies. Apple really continues to dominate the MP3 market with their highly-successful iPods, you can even buy them now! The only thing is: what's next for the wildly successful MP3 player from one of the most innovative companies in the world?

wishfulanthony: what?

They can't even put Copy/Paste or MMS on the Iphone. I wouldn't call that innovative. From my point of view, Apple will keep adding features to their stuff so people will keep buying. This is good and bad, first because they put cool features but these upgrades are expensive as mug.

And they are features they could have come with on the original release of the product.

I like the newest nano; the first gen was nice, the 2nd gen was UGLY though. But the most recent one is amazing... I just wish I had one haha

The newest one isn't too bad, not what I would've liked though, although I do like the price, and I like the price very much 4.gif Maybe I can finally get an MP3 player

@simrabbit...i take it you have an iPod touch, but i'm not sure why you're being charged for every single upgrade...i've only had to pay for one upgrade (to 2.0) granted i got mine after 1.1.4 was released.

i'm still upset over the lack of a GPS antenna in the new touch. that is the one thing i really want, and something that would cause sales to explode. even to people who normally wouldn't get an iPod. i'm not sure if i'll get over this...maybe i'll have one of my developer friends take my GPS and my touch and make them work together...

I was always wondering why they never did purple, yellow or orange but I see they finally did. 3.gif  And is it just me or is the itunes interface looking more and more like Windows Media Player?  And come to think of it, the new iPod is shaped an awful lot like a zune...

Also, there's a new iTunes feature called Genius, which is basically a "smarter" mini store window (with it's new home on the right of the itunes window instead of the bottom) and an automatic playlist creator.   You can now buy songs straight from the window instead of having to go into the store, and when you buy something it doesn't keep showing up like it did before.

I have to admit, it is not what I expected. Who would think that they would put their accelerometers in the nano?

But my favorite iPod type is the classic. I want to see more done to the classic. What did it get? nothing compared to everything else, ok it did get that "Genius", but my 5th Gen iPod can basically do that. Create a playlist through "Genius" on the computer.

I do like the new iTunes layout. Takes a bit of getting used to, but it is a good addition.

They do this every  year, I don't see what why this is such a big issue.

@The Arrowz: This latest Nano is the 4th, not the 3rd.

I actually like the Nano, but I don't really like the screen, nothing against it's orientation, but I dislike how the interface looks more like the Touch/iPhone interface...

I like the new touch, though I really dislike it's slogan. "The funnest iPod ever." I keep misreading it, and then I think "All the other iPods are as boring as hell."

And I find it funny they can't seem to figure out what to do with the shuffle, all they have done the past few years is changed the colours every time the nano's colours change and change the capacity every few years.

I agree, I was hoping to see more done to the classic myself.  All it got was a price drop and capacity change which, let's face it, everything in the digital world like computers, game consoles etc. will see that same trend so IMO it's nothing so special.

The Genius thing was ok, I found it funny how it couldn't recognize a good portion of my songs since they're instrumentals of Asian origins; twas fun making the Genius look ignorant. 3.gif
