Ok spores is out and over with now, the reviews were pretty adverage in my view and felt like they wanted to slate the game but not completely due to the amazing creature creator and the 7 years of development. but all this and now simcity left in ruins with cities xl to take over....BAD MOVE MAXIS very bad move!

sorry spores is clever and i still may buy it but you let one of your top games simcity suffer this mess

in my view maxis needs to turn back to simcity 5 and regain the city simulation genre, with cities xl almost done though even maxis might have a hard time taking it back

Spore is pretty average. As Robsterfive said, the creature creator is cool, but I've completed the game in just 10 hours of gameplay. Simcity is great coz it has unbelievable replay value, Spore has none. I'm disappointed with Maxis

Great Point beebs, you beat me to it.

Though i believe Maxis may wany to return to simcity, EA has all the power seeing as they own maxis, it was a much better move on there part from a money stand point to pour development into the two big hits, So dont blame Maxis since they had no power in the situation.

This also leads me to the bigger point the Tilted Mill was Rushed Extremely to get this game through, no developer would want to ship one of there hardwork creations with so many bugs, but Ea set's deadlines, just like what they did with sc4.

So really EA is the biggest on to blame on this, not tilted mill or maxis.

ntq$310 - thats why monte cristo's cities XL is gonna "rule the roost" after next year is because EA not serving the very people who made maxis so huge.

their loss, MC's gain

U know, i really think that spore is a good game, and I REALLY HOPE EA DOES NOT MAKE ANY OTHER DEVELOPERS Make another wierd looking version. Other than that, it seems like nobody is at the simcity societies website, 49.gif (I mean Really, there i nothing on that site. about a year or somewhere in the early months of SCS, there was about 25 Stories and stuff. now, there is nothing. (i mean, if you really kind of knew this thing was going to happen, at least you should save some to make it look like people actually are on the site.) really sad.28.gif

thats good to know , I guess , I wish ea would continue it too...

but there are many great simcity knockoffs out there(none like sc4 , though)and more in the development , so the concept altogether isnt all dead.

I would get scs , however , there are too many who don't like it.

Game developers don't really return to "old" titles such as SC4, although if they made another expansion pack instead of another game it would be cheaper as they wouldn't be creating a whole new game. Then when people who haven't got SC4 hear about and decide to buy it they then buy SC4, + rushour + the new one. so EA will boost the sales of SC4 for the price of one expansion pack.

Also they've still got Spore EPs, and Sims 3 and then Sims 3 EPs. So I doubt they will return to SC. But even they just came back to the community (the developers) that would be amazing.

Maxis don't work anymore on The Sims franchise. The Sims studio directed by Rod Humble take care of them.

Maxis (directed by Will Wright) work on a new secret project for the 3 next years.

Now the SimCity franchise is developed outside EA (Tilted Mill for SC Societies, Hudson Soft for SC Creator, Syn Sophia for SC DS).

Will Wright

ageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.joystiq.com/2008/12/14/vga-2008-will-wrights-got-a-new-project-hes-not-talking/');" href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/14/vga-2008-will-wrights-got-a-new-project-hes-not-talking/" target="_blank">Joystiq has announced, that Will Wright Creator of The Sims & Spore has started working on a new top secret project, announced at this years Spike VGA 2008 Awards. This is what he had to say:

I'm working on a big new project that I'm very excited about, but I don't want to talk about it yet because if it takes three years to come out I don't want people saying 'Wow, he's been talking about that for a loooong time.quote>
quote>

Hmm, could this be Simcity 5, another expansion pack to Simcity 4, or a sequel or expansion to Spore? Whatever it is, it should prove interesting.

I don't think, it's certainly a new SimSomethingElse because Maxis like to create new simulation games.

Probably don't think Maxis will make another SimCity game, because they still have to churn out expansions for Spore. And even if they did have time, EA will shoot it down because SimCity is more of a fan-following game. It doesn't return as much as The Sims or Spore.

Top secret project from Will Wright = A new masterpiece :-D, I'm sure about it ;-)

"If you try to please everybody, you often times end up pleasing nobody, especially yourself. When somebody offers to do a favor for free, like making a mod for SimCity 4, you shouldn't be overly critical of something generously given to you. In other words, you shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth." - Twilight Sparkle after playing SimCity

"Being a mayor or a content creator for SimCity 4 is a heavy responsibility, Patrick. Each city and each custom content is like a child, and must be treated as such." - SpongeBob Squarepants after playing SimCity

"Without deviation from the norm, progress is not possible." - Frank Zappa

"The wisest men follow their own direction." - Euripides

I don't think Cities XL will "rule the roost"...the game hasn't even been officially released yet, and many people are showing signs of profound disappointment.

~ COMING SOON! Exciting new projects! ~

Cities XL should be a good game, and, if nothing else, it will keep interest in the genre alive for a few years to come. Personally, I would love for to Maxis return to SimCity, but you can bet it'll be a while before they announce anything.

OP, what makes you think Spore is done?

They have a parts pack out and an expansion pack.

They have two separate games on the way for the Wii and DS.

Not to mention a rumored Creature Keeper.

Spore is not over.

As for returning to SimCity, I always thought the Stupid Fan Club might do that,

Ohhh... A secret project.6.gif Please be Sim City 5! SC: S screwed up the franchise. Sim City 5, if they made it, would have to be AWESOME! Anyway, I think it's more than an expansion pack, because I don't think it takes 3 years to make an expansion pack. Sequel to Spore= Alright. SC5=39.gifSims Expansion=30.gif

Hope that it's Sim City. AND, SPORE AIN'T DEAD!
