I'm sure this topic has been done before but I would just like to get some new opinions. Which city do you believe has the best skyline in the world? Personally I love the city of Vancouver B.C but think it's skyline is pretty drab. My favorite is Seattle. I think Mt. Rainier and the Space Needle all go together perfectly.

Charlotte, NC is a personal favorite.  I'm not biased being an NC native, but Charlotte is growing by leaps and bounds these days.

Hong Kong. It's the mountain backdrop that does it - magnificent.

Minneapolis, Minnesota actually has a very beautiful skyline. Even more so right after it rains or before a storm.

pffft... skyscrapers 3.gif

St. Petersburg has the best "old" skyline, with tons of old churches and palaces. Lisbon also has a wonderful skyline filled with old baroque churches, a couple of hi-rise condos and offices, a suspension bridge and a huge statue of Christ that was designed after the one in Rio de Janeiro. 4.gif

I love the Chicago skyline and once the Chicago Spire it will be my most favorite, but right now I have to say Dallas is my favorite, only because it's so unique. It's best at night.

There's nothing wrong with having pride in your own town's skyline, but please... Hong Kong blows them all out of the water. You can't beat a combination of sea, skyscrapers, and mountains all in one. Vancouver and San Francisco are probably tops in North America for that reason, and New York's in there too for its bridges and statue, but they still don't come close. There's 30 buildings in Hong Kong that have been built since 2000 alone that are over 200 metres tall, which means it's it's growing fast and it's only getting better. The view that haljackey posted is from Victoria Peak and it's breathtaking, and so is virtually every other view from every other angle from every other location in the harbour. On anybody's top-50 list Hong Kong should easily hog the first 10 spots for 10 different reasons!

I don't like how the motorway is cutting through the city in that San Francisco skyline picture.. Hong Kong is the winner I think! However it will be interesting to see dubai and similiar areas on the go, let's wait 20 years and see hehe

To be honest, i think hong kong is a mess. its built to function, not to look pretty. You look at cities with smaller skylines like san fran, vancouver, boston etc., those skylines have a definite shape and look wonderful with their surroundings. Hong Kong is basically a couple tall pretty glass towers and thousands of ugly concrete apartment towers.

I find hong kong breathtaking, but certainly not beautiful.

    Yeah, Toronto all the way!

Just the way that the buildings line up.

And you havent seen the true skyline before you see it from the east or west. Instead of that standard generic skyline from the lake that seems to be so popular.

    TORONTO!

And I agree with the patriots, cities like H.K are just buildings. No shape.

I do like Charlotte, NC though. Never been, but it looks nice. Not to big, not to small.

BUT MY NUMBER ONE IS GOOD OL' T.O!

I think Hong Kong is beautiful, but imho SHANGHAI is more visually stunning that Hong Kong's fancy night lights. I love the contrast in Shanghai's buildings, with the Pearl Tower and the modern skyscrapers to the historical British buildings all along the water.... Also it's not as cluttered as many other city skylines or as boxy.... My favorite part would be the two spheres on the Pearl Tower and the sphere from the smaller building right beneath, how they form this strange triangle. so unique, I love it.

I just have to say, that a bunch of apartment towers and a few tall good looking buildings on their own all together, is nowhere near pretty at all. And that's Hong Kong. Let's just say that I'd put a couple of Red Wood cedar tree, with a bunch of Eucalyptus trees around it, wow! Pretty? Not really...

Yeah, Hong Kong's got the sea... But, It's not really a part of a Skyline, is it? well if you take the picture afar from the city, and we'd the shore, It's just part of the picture, but not the Skyline... I don't know, I'm just rambling here..

    But yes,

Seattle is just one of the best skylines I've seen..

I also love Minneapolis, for some reason...

When it's not completely covered in smog, L.A looks great! Palm trees+Downtown+San Gabriel Mountains=Awesome. I think Seattle takes this prize because of the Space Needle and Mt. Rainer. It's a perfect combo!

HK by far, no one comes close, New York just ahead of Chicago because of much greater density, despite less interesting buildings, the third tier would have toronto and vancouver, the rest, meh. This is strictly skyscraper based.
