kj3400: Thanks for visiting my CJ.

jimbo_jj: It definitely takes a lot of time, but I do agree it's worth it.

Hawkeye9: Thanks! I hope the tutorial works for you.

ComputerGuy890100: Whohoooo!!! 2000 views!!! Now, not having Photoshop is no issue. You should check out the program GIMP. It's free to use, and functions similar to Photoshop. Region Census is a program used to save an image of your region without having to mess around with screenshots. You should be able to find it at SC4devotion in the LEX.

Schulmanator: Thanks! How do I go about submitting something to the omnibus? Also, what category would it fit in?

dfnva: As I was saying to CG, you should check out the program GIMP. It is similar to Photoshop, but it is free to download.

    Alternative to Photoshop

Just a quick note for those who don't have access to Photoshop. There is a freeware program called GIMP, and is supposed to be structured similar to Photoshop. With GIMP you can work in layers and I believe you can do similar layer blending effects as well. So for those of you who want to make graphics with a program more versatile than Paint, I urge you to download GIMP.

You can visit the GIMP website by clicking here.

    Edit:

    How about another teaser...

Wow, another great map. Particularily realistic is the short multiplex of Routes 40 and 7.

Thanks for the heads up about Gimp. Interestingly, I find Powerpoint to do very well for needs as I work with layers using it, but I may try Gimp as well.

    ComputerGuy890100: Damn, that's too bad.

Hawkeye9: Good to hear GIMP works for you.  I hope you're able to figure it out, because from what I hear, it's a pretty good program.

packersfan: Good point about the traffic view. The only time I see that being a problem is if you're mixing small, medium and large city tiles.

dfbva: Thanks a lot! As for GIMP, I hope it works well for you. I'm not all that great at Powerpoint. I can just work with the basic functions. 3.gif

    Update 19

Today's update will feature the suburban community of Trenton. Trenton first started as a bedroom community to it's neighbour, Sharon. As you learned back in Update 12, Sharon is a very dirty city, and the energy hub of the province of Fortune. Because Sharon supplies the entire region with power, the head offices of FortunePower were located in downtown. The business and adminstative side of the power industry tried to distance themselves from the smoggy city of Sharon. Because of this, the majority of workers in the business and administrative side of FortunePower moved to the neighbourint community of Trenton. Soon Trenton began to lure more workers from downtown Sharon. Now, Trenton's population is over 50,000.

    trenton01.jpg

With the influx of residents moving to Trenton, Trenton was attracting businesses to set up shop in downtown.

This is the historical part of downtown.

    downtown03.jpg

And this is the newer part of downtown.

    downtown04.jpg

The agriculture industry plays a role in Trenton's economy.

    ag01.jpg

And of course, being neighbours with Sharon influences the manufacturing industry.

    railyard01.jpg

    industry01.jpg

Suburban communities tend to have traffic problems. If you want to go anywhere, you're usually forced onto the freeway.

    freeway01.jpg

    freeway02.jpg

    freeway04.jpg

    freeway06.jpg

Residents of Trenton have the reputation of being bad drivers. I tried many times to run the simulator so I wouldn't take a picture of a collision at the intersection of Miles St. and North James Ave. This was the closest I could get...

    And again...

    freeway03.jpg

    And AGAIN!

    freeway05.jpg

Trenton has the lowest density of residents for an city with a population over 20,000. Trenton does not have any condos or apartments, just single family homes.

Here's a rail bridge that crosses the Kaplan River.

Across the river from Trenton and Sharon is nothing but farmland. Here are the typical farm yards around Trenton.

City developers intend to turn Aaron Hill into a tourist attraction. For now, Aaron Hill has been left in its natural state. There are currently no definitive plans on how to turn Aaron Hill into a tourist attraction, but city council is open to suggestions.

That is all for now. I hope you enjoyed the tour of Trenton!

selle, here is what I do (I don't make google maps, at least not yet, but I patch all my traffic views together and make a road name map for my own personal reference right now)...I take the screenshot of the city traffic view, let's say a medium city and set it sizewise to 1024 x 1024...then when I do a large city I set it to 2048x 2048...and it works perfectly, the streets are the same size now and everything (before if I had the medium city at 1024 and the large at 1024, the large would be too small and wouldn't match up)...when I have time (next month, I'm going to work on a google map and see how I can do it in GIMP...keep an eye out for it on my journal)

I really like the sprawling housing, very midwest and realistic. I like your highway signage/designations too. It has prompted me to redesign my highway signs next month, 4.gif, thanks for the inspiration. Keep up the good work!

Your resizing of the traffic view makes perfect sense! I'll have to give it a try. It would help lose that one step (and tedious step) of distorting the image to make it square. Thanks for that idea!

It takes some patience to zone light residential that extensively, and it pays off! I'm kind of surprised there are so many bad drivers, considering the low density, but what should you expect on a long commute I guess.

First and foremost, I want to thank everyone who visits and posts comments on in my CJ. In case you didn't see Jill Jacobs'  top CJs of the week, this past week I was rated at number one. All your visits and comments contribute to this CJ as much as my updates. If it wasn't for all of you, it would be hard to find the motivation to keep updating. So, thanks again!!!

    Replies

packersfan: I'm definitely going to start working your technique for scaling the transportation maps. Thanks for the suggestion!

ComputerGuy890100: Thanks! I'm glad you like it.

Royal Guard: The suburbs do take a long time. First the street layout, then the zoning and growing. But it's worth it!

Simcitymaster13: Thanks for your devotion to my CJ! I hope you continue to enjoy it.

Hawkeye9: Thanks man! I hope you like today's update.

suplado!: Thanks for the comment! I'm glad you like my work.

jimbo_jj: I'm glad you like the low-density residential. I definintely think it's worth the effort. As for the bad drivers.. it's probabty due to fatigue from driving for so long. Commutes are long in the suburbs!

politicman: Trenton would be a great place to live, but I would hate to work outside the area. I wouldn't mind being one of the lucky ones working in downtown rather than in neighbouring Sharon.

De Ja Vu: Thanks a lot for your nice comments! I hope you keep coming back.

jutrock: Thanks! I'm glad the time and effort I put into this is apreciated.

Raysfan16: Thanks a lot! Coming from someone with such a fantastic CJ as your own, it means a lot.

Muck300: Thanks for your comment! I hope you come back for more.

    Update 20

Ok, so after the picture overload in last update, this one is going to be a little low-key.

I want to share with you the rural area of Cedar Valley. Cedar Valley is a community of farms just outside the suburban city of Trenton. With the boom outside of Trenton, the farmland surrounding the city has increased in value. As a result, more farmers have been spending money on their farmland.

That's all I have for now. Next update I'm going to show you the Douglas Pass - the main pass through the mountain range that divides the west and east of Fortune.

Nice rural area, I like how you used dirt roads to access the farms and a non-limited access RHW as the main road through the area.
