right across the border in SC, it is as low as $1.43...

big difference in state gas taxes here.

88.1c per litre here at a service station. Filled up at that price.

61.4c US per litre - $2.32 US a gallon

Damn, no chance of returning to the days where Australian petrol was cheaper than US petrol.

No one has posted on here for a while.. but gas/petrol prices are shooting back up with the problems in Libya, rebounding world economy and the Japan earthquake.

Petrol prices in the United Kingdom have hit a record of £1.38 a litre for unleaded petrol (regular gas) which equates to around $9.00 a gallon.

My little 1.2 litre Fiat Punto now costs $74.00 to fill up :O

Ranging here from $1.32 to 1.37 per liter here in Huronia.

Converting to U.S. Dollars that's about (1.39, 1.44) or 3.7854118 is the conversion factor for gallons to liters, so (5.26, 5.45) per U.S. gallon.

These prices were found on the road yesterday from here to London, ON.

EDIT: If the average Canadian did these calculations, the border towns would have a run on gas stations.

im sure the oil companies have taken that into account.

Just shot up another dime today to $3.99/gallon. $20 for just under a quarter tank of gas. Prices don't really affect me too much since I don't drive all that much anymore [2,900 miles since last June]. I drive a 2002 Chevy Malibu which gets 37 MPG on the highway and roughly 28 MPG in the city. It also has just under 97,000 miles on it.

They pulled the plug on subsidised petrol, now the subsidy is reduced and the price of unleaded is increased from 4500IDR to 6500IDR in parts of Java. Most people spend 100000IDR to buy fuel, which renders the buying capability of most Indonesians.

Atleast for me, the rupiah is getting stronger compared to pre-recession levels as the economy is getting better from time to time.

To solve it, an 'SUV Tax' should be implemented. Americans will suffer from their greed years ago when they bought SUVs, now they have to pay for the price.

Outside Chicago. Oil tipped over $112/barrel today on the market as I watched the stock market indexes on TV. $4.19/gallon today, will probably go up over the weekend.

The local station known to have the cheapest gas in town here in Stamford was sitting at $4.139 for regular this afternoon. Up from $4.039 a week ago.

As for predictions that it's going to hit five, six, or overninethousand! dollars a gallon by whatever date... I pay them no mind, since, really, nobody really has a damned clue. This isn't something you can predict. Last year about this time people were saying gas would run over $5 a gallon by that summer on account of Deepwater Horizon and the resulting drilling moratorium in the gulf; what actually happened was that gas prices went up about 20 cents and then stayed there for the next several months before settling back down. Never even got past $3.30. So, whatever it ends up costing, it ends up costing, and take it as it comes. There isn't a crytstal ball, let's not kid ourselves into thinking their is. All we can really say for sure is that this bubble too shall pop, and it will eventually go back down.

You guys make me envious... Going European you'll see how "lucky" you are on having such a cheap gasoline.

Regular gasoline is priced 1.369 €/liter in my usual gas station where I live, which can be converted to 7,73 $/gallon. In simple numbers, I can fill my car tank with 60 € (88.15 $).

It isn't really that gas is "cheap" in the US per se. In terms of base cost I don't think there's a substantial difference. It's just that we don't tax the bajeezus out of it like you guys do over in Europe.

The Euro zone isn't the only place. We have provincial and federal excise taxes, then sales tax. The Harmonized Sales Tax in Ontario (on everything) is 14% with few exceptions.

Seriously, you should ditch your can and go by public transport and bicycles. They're much cheaper and healthier as you need to walk to get the the bus/train station.

Gas is taxed more in Canada than it is in the US, yes. Seems to mean an extra dollar a gallon, usually. Still considerably less than Europe, though, where prices are basically double.

Seriously, you should ditch your car and go by public transport and bicycles. They're much cheaper and healthier as you need to walk to get the the bus/train station.

The nearest public transport to my house is a bus stop over a mile away that gets service only once an hour and only during the day. And there are any number of places I may be going that that neither that bus nor anything it connects to will take me. So, no, I will not be ditching my car. (nevermind that I sometimes drive places just for fun, so my car is also a toy, not just a tool)

As for bicycles, I cannot fathom using one as a means of transportation. Riding one of those things in traffic has got to be very dangerous. Bikes are only suitable for recreational use and only on quiet suburban streets or dedicated paths, if you ask me.

That said, sometimes public transport does just make sense. My commute involves driving to the train station and then taking the train because congestion makes driving into Manhattan impractical and the price of parking there makes it prohibitively expensive. But, you need a really large city for this to be the case. New York, obviously, fits that bill, but other smaller cities don't have the same quality of public transport that New York does and don't have the same level of congestion and ridiculous parking fees that might make you think twice about driving. There are several medium-sized American cities which don't have any sort of rail system at all, and don't have the density to effectively support one.

Besides, there is a key factor you're not considering. Is public transport cheaper? Might be, depends. Is it healthier? Yes, yes it is. BUT... is it faster? In many many cases, the answer is "not by a long shot", and that is why cars remain so prevalent. Example: I used public transit many times to get back and forth between where I went to college and my grandparents' house. Took about an hour and a half. Driving, the same trip would take twenty minutes. If I had had access to a car at the time, guess which option I would have chosen?

The public transport infrastructure in most countries other than the European Union is extremely underdeveloped. Most people in Indonesia have houses close to where they work, people tend to look jobs in areas close to where they might want to live. Most people commute by motorbike if their commute is long, since you can cut through red-light traffic jams right to the front of the traffic. 'Long' means 15km(in our measurement that is long).

I lived in Australia as a kid, our car broke down a lot and it was better to be on the bus as my home was right next to a bus stop. The bus also came in frequently, it came in every 10 minutes, since it was a high-demand route.

About train connections, most cities, big or small, have a lot of rail lines radiating out of railyards and most have a single abandoned train station. It won't take much to do. You can also sleep, chat and possibly work in the train if you want to(you commute from Tracy to San Francisco or from Philly/Connecticut to Manhattan), saving some energy and time.

I meant that, ditching your 'car' means the average US 'car', alias SUVs.

Nope. I prefer to do my own driving. I can't stand public transportation, it's like being stuffed into a sardine can. That and I don't like being in a crowd, I like my space to be able to breathe.

I do practically all my driving for fun as it is and catch a bus to Uni. at AUD1.60 a litre over the easter holidays here (compared to 88 cents 3 years ago!!), for premium, its expensive. Luckily i get decent milage out of my car, 10-11L/100km. Wouldn't be getting that if i drove it into uni though, stop start would lower it.

I've watched the news this week, I see the prices of gasoline in United States are increasing. Lets see the prices in Mexico:

    Diesel: $8.32 per liter.

    Gas Magna: $7.96 per liter.

    Gas Premium: $9.70 per liter.

All the prices are in MX-Pesos.

I use public transport to go to the university, fortunately I don't care about the prices, still.

I looked for a conversion rate on my Bank, but couldn't find it. Probably because it is the weekend. Do you have the conversion rate between the Peso and the U.S or Canadian Dollar?

    Diesel: 8.32 MXN/L = 0.68 CAD/L = 2.71 USD/gal

    Gas Magna: 7.96 MXN/L = 0.65 CAD/L = 2.59 USD/gal

    Gas Premium: 9.70 MXN/L = 0.80 CAD/L = 3.16 USD/gal

    Gas is cheap in Mexico.

EDIT: Darn, Duke87 beat me to it. Well, I'll just add some stuff about prices where I live.

    Google is your Friend!

    {Peso to US Dollar}

    {Peso to Canadian Dollar}

Alejandro24, are those prices really in Pesos? Because that would mean 1 US Gallon of oil would cost:

    Diesel: $2.71 USD

    Gas Magna: $2.59 USD

    Gas Premium: $3.16 USD

Around here in North California, gas apparently $4.20 /US Gallon or so. The US average seems to be $3.84 /US Gallon. I had to look these up online because I ride my bike everywhere (the town my university is located in is very bike friendly). I only drive a car to go home and come back to school.

Yap' (another expresion for 'yes', 'yeah', 'si' or 'ja'), the prices are in Mexican Pesos.

There is an error in the prices, I take the numbers of January of this year, I must take the values for the firsts days of April of this year :whatevs: . Sorry about this mistake, but I say it: I don't really care, still. Is not despise, Is just I think don't need it. Now I seeing the need to understand this kind of things.

Diesel and Magna increased $1.12, while Premium increased $0.56.

    Diesel: $9.44 per liter.

    Gas Magna: $9.08 per liter.

    Gas Premium: $10.26 per liter.

I have understanded that in the borders, with United States, Belice and Guatemala, but specially with United States, the gas are more cheap than the rest of the regions of the nation. A newspaper article says that Mexico has one of the cheapest prices of gasoline. Many people here don't think that, but now I'm reading your opinions and I'm building my conclusion.

    Again, sorry the mistake.

@Alejandro: I think gasoline here in Indonesia are quite cheap, since its subsidised everywhere else outside Jakarta.

Subsidised gas(premium/biodiesel) costs Rp 4.500/L in most cities and Rp 6.500/L in Jakarta(where it's not really subsidised)

Non-subsidised gas(Pertamax/DEX) costs Rp. 10.800/L for Pertamax and around Rp. 12.000/L for DEX(refined biodiesel).

At the moment, 1 USD equals Rp. 10,000.

1 gallon is 4 litres, so I guess non subsidised gas goes for the same price.

Don't know if gas is subsidised in Mexico but if it weren't, how could it be cheap when Mexico imports gas?

    ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Wait a moment..... if you want to save money, get a really fuel efficient car, eg, less than 8l/100km or better than 30mpg city.
