    South Wirdleonia: Largest City Ever!

Princess Katherine is reveling in the creation of her new capital. The massive new city sits on the Wirdleonia River at the nation's southern edge, poised on the border between South and East Wirdleonia. The planned town is far larger than the two largest cities in Schulmania to date: Gran Maru and Atkinos. The new town was designed with several novel approaches. One, a large town green was retained along the waterfront as a signature park. Two, a massive civic plaza sits in the center of town, featuring civic buildings hitherto unimagined in scale. Three, the largest network of canals ever built in Schulmania provide transit and recreation within the town. And, incomparable educational and recreational facilities make Robinia the grandest city in the nation.

Let's begin our exploration of this vibrant new Schul-metropolis, a fabulous place to serve as capital of the Regency of Wirdleonia and showpiece of Schulmania.

    wide1gu3.jpg
In this wide view, the Regency Canal can be seen bisecting town. Its intersection with the Claw Canal is at center right. Residential, commercial and industrial concerns are all in close proximity in this pedestrian-friendly city.

    wide11cf0.jpg
Closer up, we can see the busy intersection of the main canal and the one leading to the riverfront. An interesting variety of structures can be seen. At the bottom, the octagonal dome of the Catnip Research Institute is adjacent to the masonry bell tower of Tabby Chapel. Above it, the narrow tower of tiny Dr. Fang's Feline Dentistry is almost lost in the urban mix. Across the footbridge lies a gourmet restaurant destination of great distinction, The Mighty Huntress. The Mighty Huntress features freshly caught game every day, served with your choice of soup, salad, and bread.

    ckuc7.jpg
What town of distinction would be without a Chicken King franchise? This massive eatery, one of the largest in the nation, has a prime location on the Regency Canal.

This sprawling town has been subdivided into quarters. Each quarter, similar to an arrondissement, handles neighborhood affairs delegated from city hall. The neighborhoods and their designations are shown below.

    Designation Name Location
Robinia I Cathedral Area south of Regency Canal between the Claw and Paw Canals
Robinia II Pond Of Purrs Area surrounding the end of Regency Canal up to the East Wirdleonia boundary line
Robinia III Stelltown Area west of Robinia II above Regency Canal
Robinia IV Little Busscastle Area on the opposite site of Regency Canal from Robinia I
Robinia V New Carmelcciase Area northwest of Regency Canal
Robinia VI Tabbytown Area west of Regency Canal
Robinia VII Stadium Area east of Claw Canal up to East Wirdleonia boundary
Robinia VIII East Village East Wirdleonia sector west of the park
Robinia IX New East Village East Wirdleonia sector east of the park

Robinia II, the Pond of Purrs neighborhood, centers on the body of water with the same name, which serves as the terminus of Regency Canal.

    The Pond of Purrs

    pondofpurrsps6.jpg
Robinia II, the Pond of Purrs neighborhood, runs right up to the South Wirdleonia- East Wirdleonia border.

One of the largest retail venues ever created in Schulmania is the new Robinia Arcade. Which front the Regency Canal. This luxury shopping destination featured high end retail and custom clothiers, artisans and design mavens.

    arcade1ef9.jpg
Robinia Arcade features top retailers, such as Purr-sian Rug Outlet, Whisker & Kittybana, The Fancy Feastery, Furball Artistes, Golden Claw Jewelry, Louis Kitton, and esteemed fisk outfitter Paw & Claw.

    arcade2bj9.jpg
Robinia Arcade is readily accessible by land and by water... ready to accept your free schulmonetas without delay.

Had enough shopping? NEVER! How about the biggest commercial exchange site in South Wirdleonia? The Mercantile Exchange sits on the Regency Canal and is proximate to the massive central plaza. It serves mainly as a business-to-business sales site and is a powerful engine in the regional economy.

    mercantile1kv0.jpg
Sitting near the intersection of the Regency and Paw Canals, the curved façade of the Mercantile Exchange beckons businesses to come and trade.

To cement Robinia's role as largest city in the realm, several massive public edifices were built to anchor the town's center. The Cathedral of St. Pyyus is the centerpiece, flanked by government structures of national, regional, district and municipal levels.

    cath4wi7.jpg
The Cathedral of St. Pyyus, focal point of the town and the new largest building in the nation. The massive structure can hold 20% of the town's population in its sanctuary.

    cath1zo2.jpg
The cathedral is flanked by vibrant city plazas on three sides. The most ornate of which is the Piazza de Pyyus, which fronts the Regency Canal. The centerpieces of the piazza are the Katherine Column and the Golden Prey statue. Needless to say, Governor Eula Bird of East Devonshire is not amused by the Golden Prey and has vowed not to visit Robinia until it is replaced.

The massive new Bureau of Feline Affairs building dwarfs any other BFA edifice in the nation, even the headquarters in Temple Terrace.

    bfa4bc1.jpg
With this huge arcaded building, Princess Katherine could very well be trying to lure the BFA headquarters away from Temple Terrace. The roof of the South Wirdleonia Mint can be seen at bottom center.

On the theme of "bigger is better" we should not forget Regency Green, the largest park in Schulmania. The only larger open spaces are unsettled areas or game preserves. No town has this much open space left in one contiguous parcel.

    green3lm1.jpg
Regency Green is so large that it is flanked by its own set of park terraces. The park fits between Claw and Paw Canals and is south of Pyyus Canal. It continues to the waterfront and is mostly undeveloped. It features a parade of flags and several distinctive pieces of statuary nestled within the woods.

    westernterracevy7.jpg
The Western Terrace marks the edge of the green. One such terrace would be impressive in a town. Robinia has two. And they are not even the focal point of the park.

To round out this introduction, we will inspect the largest edifice ever constructed in Schulmania. Neyland Stadium is now the official home of Schulmania's largest sports events, as it is by far the largest sports venue in the nation.

Is that an orange bull over Neyland Stadium's front entrance?  Just checking.  And BFA had better move quickly if they're going to move to that magnificent building before Spidey Industries opens a Schulmanian branch office...  That is a city full of awesome.  I'm totally renting one of those paddle boats (with the full insurance on it, because there's just no guarantee that thing's makin it back alive, er afloat2.gif)!

Hawkeye9 Thanks! I am glad you like it. And, welcome to Schulmania. Please do come back.

    anarchy0029 Thanks!

JJC12321 LOL... I rolled out Larry's story to coincide with what I thought would be the llama-themed Trixie season. But, the Trixies are delayed this year. So, all we have for now is Larry carrying the llama banner.

blue sinjid No mad cow disease but Larry has Irritable Llama Syndrome (ILS).

Hester No doubt she knows of him... but it remains to be seen if his little commune will survive.

Leech10 I suppose tin plated llama wool is not the coolest monetary material ever made...

kj3400 He is probably gonna get in a lot of trouble if he does try to take over the island.

NMUSpidey If he disavows her sovereignty, he's probably gonna get a shredding with the Claws o' Doom.

Sobol What about llamas who hang around Ed Grimley?

Artur_001 Thanks! I am glad you liked the latest update.

Hester Just be wary - llamas are armed with spit cannons.

Knarfmo I will have to have an encore when the Trixies come out later in the year... our motto " Gonna go Llama"!

Stnggrl Thanks! And, welcome to Schulmania. Please do come back again.

TheJerseyDevil73 Yes, the lolcats are not good spellers! Thanks for coming by.

    NMUSpidey Puppy coladas? Ewwwww!

Hester As well you should be!

Leech10 Perhaps she has gills too.

    Sobol Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!

    panthersimcity4 Looks like fun!

Knarfmo Thanks! Hope you like the first installment.

Hester That's why you should never feed pandas Red Bull.

Leech10 I think he was "double dog dared" by his friends to do it.

kj3400 I think the final version of Robinia will be 2-2.5x Gran Maru in population.

Zelgadis All of the residents on the commune blindly obey Larry, so they don't complain about all of the llama care.

ky72x KYLE!!! Glad to see you back! You are welcome to come by the Llama Louvre anytime! It was, after all, the inspiration for the whole story.

Vandy GARY!! Another esteemed returning guest! Now that the first Robinia update is posted, you may want to contact an agent about securing office space for VAN Enterprises in this new metropolis.

Sobol They may have used a polar bear as a stunt double...

Benedict Hmmm... we'll have to see what the llamas and Larry are up to later...

flyinbird93 Thanks! I hope you enjoyed it.

Jacqulina Thanks, J. Always glad to have you pop in.

    Leech10 Gracias!

Hester Of course, this means TSW will have to upstage Katherine with a newer and bigger capital...

Artur_001 Obrigado! You are too kind.

anarchy0029 Thanks! There's plenty more where this came from... I took ~80 pix of the town.

Ntq$310 Thanks! And, thanks for coming back again.

panthersimcity4 Thanks. This is the pride of Wirdleonia.

Hahayoudied A slight flicker in the cloaking device gave us a hint of HHYD... but he's still officially in lurk mode.

Leech10 Overview will be a bit difficult, as Robinia VIII and IX are in another tile. It will certainly be in the next region view.

NMUSpidey That's no bull, that's an artist's interpretation of "The Spirit of Wirdleonian Sport"

Stnggrl Thanks! And I am delighted you came back again.

Csgcseri GREG!!! I am glad to see you again! Schulmania has missed you. I hope you like what has transpired in your absence.

Benedict Thanks! It sort of is like that, with a Spanish twist.

flyinbird93 Thanks! It did take a while. The longest wait is for the right buildings to grow in the right spaces. You bulldoze 100x and they STILL build the same thing right back in the same spot where you blew it up... eventually, the finally build something else!

PhilsCafe Thanks! And, I think the HK is on the second floor overlooking the canal.

Pipishere Thanks! I am glad you like it. More of Robinia is coming up in the next few updates.

Haljackey Thanks! And, BTW, I am so loving that avatar!

Kelistmac Thanks! I enjoyed making it and saved a few lots just for this city.

Shingure Hi! Actually, the commutes are not too bad. There's a decent amount of commercial in there and industrial lots which look like residential ones. So, many commutes are surprisingly short.
