East Tenne: Up the River

And now, a nice sail up the Tenne River to today’s feature city: Cherohala. This charming town occupies a bend in the river, just north of the confluence of the Tenne and Little Tenne Rivers. Cherohala is connected by two ferry ports – east and north of town – as well as by bridge to the eastern bank. The City Planning Office did not use any sort of signature architectural style for the town. Rather the distinctive feature of Cherohala is a massive raised central plaza running the length of the town from east to west. This new type of urban park was designed by master urban planner Troy McClure. You may remember his work some such works as Gladys the Groovy Mule and The Greatest Story Ever Hulaed.

Our first glimpse of the town is of the three entry points: the two ferry ports and the bridge.

The bridge spans the Little Tenne River.

The eastern port is on the Little Tenne River.

The northern port is on the Tenne River. It is flanked by the Maxis Terminal and the Tower of Trade, Commerce & Stuff (TTCS).

A smaller port is on the south side of town, by the Bureau of Feline Affairs Building.

The town itself straddles the line between East and Middle Tenne. About two thirds of the town lies in East Tenne and the western part lies in Middle Tenne. City Hall is in East Tenne, so the town is officially listed as being in East Tenne. The two sections are quite different. The western end is more in the classical Capital style architecture popularized in such cities as Knoxvegas and Roane-Anderson. The eastern sector reflects more of a hodge podge of Schulmania’s eclectic architectural styles.

Here’s Whisker Valley High School, home of the Scratching Posts, winners of this year’s yarnball tournament.

City Hall has a prominent riverfront location. Across the street is the campus of Cherohala College.

On the eastern side, tall and narrow homes predominate.

On the western side, a more formal order is often seen.

Despite its smaller size, the western sector has about the same number of residents, thanks to its concentration of midrise structures.

Slants and curves are certainly in style on this side of town.

This surprising town has a wide array of amenities sure to impress just about everyone. The waterfront hosts bustling retails, which also can be found in abundance on the west side of town. There are several schools and cultural facilities as well as many entertainment venues.

The waterfront along the Little Tenne River is studded with impressive retail buildings.

The west side features the impressively slanty headquarters of Fisk Industries, a feline owned and operated manufacturing concern.

Abundant retail meets the needs of even the most finicky shopper.

The distinctive curved façade of the National Parks Visitors Center is near the ferry to the game preserve. It also houses the fabulous Museum of Prey as well as the National Hunting Expedition Archives. It is definitely a must-see while in Cherohala.

Of course, being located near two rivers makes the town a strategic spot. To ensure security, a small army base is located on the western edge of town.

Several military barracks, such as these, house the 170th Division (XIII Corps 27th Division, BFA Military).

Schulmania 2011 First Quarter Posting Awards Ceremony

Includes all posts in Volumes 1-3 recorded as of Volume 2 Page 217 and Volume 3 Page 154. As noted in the 2010 Annual Awards, single posters will be counted but will not be shown because the length of the post will exceed the maximum allowed by the site. There are as of today 571 different posters in Schulmania.

Saturday is an important day! First, April 2 is Wirdle Day, one of the most important holidays in Schulmania. http://www.schulmani...es/holidays.htm Also, it is the projected date for the Shearing o’ the Grass… a seasonal tradition of mowing lawns. The shagginess of lawns near Schulmanator HQ will bring forth the mower for a much needed trim. That is, if it stops raining. If not, the mower may be swapped out for machetes and a bush hog.

Schulmania Weather Update

Heavy storms rolling over the Kingdom of Schulmanicus this afternoon after a warm, breezy start to the day. Substantial wind gusts have been reported as far west as Roane-Anderson and as far east as Busscastle. The front is currently in the eastern Tenne Sea and headed for Devonshire. Thunderstorms are expected across Devonshire into the night.

Unconfirmed reports of a tornado touch down near Sunbright had residents of East Tenne on edge as the day winds down. Trees have been reported down across the northern half of the nation. Early reports have been confirmed by the Office of Internal Security http://www.schulmania.info/military_files/police.htm that two trees have fallen on the historic birthplace of BFA Governor-General H. J. Franciflora in the Old Wirt Farm National Historic Site in central Schulmanicus. Wirtyplace reports that the damage is moderate, less than that experienced by the historic Supreme Wirdle Birthplace when a tree fell on it several years ago. Governor Cawale reports from Wirtyplace that the capitol has sustained no damage and that its residents are safe. She added, “If we had electricity, which of course we don’t, it would be out right now due to the storms.”

A severe thunderstorm warning remains in effect until 3 AM local time in all points west of the Devonian Mountains and north of Schulmanidad, except for New Atkinos and East Atkinos. Gusty winds and scattered moderate hail will occur throughout the region overnight.

The Supreme Wirdle has issued a directive informing citizens to stay inside until the storm passes. Residents alarmed by thunder and lightning can hide under beds and couches until it passes. In the morning, Schulmania National Parks personnel will evaluate the condition of the historic site and develop a plan for restoration.

East Tenne: Upper Level Parking

The western town of Cherohala (western because it is on the border between East and Middle Tenne, though it is about halfway across the entire region, which is only about half developed) is known for its two ports and its strategic location at the confluence of the Tenne and Little Tenne Rivers. But its most famous and signature feature is the massive elevated park running through the middle of town, bisecting it east to west from the shoreline to the city limits. This innovative recreational space was designed by renowned urban planner Troy McClure. You might remember him from such works as The Contrabulous Fabtraption of Professor Horatio Hufnagel or Good-Time Slim, Uncle Doobie, and the Great Frisco Freak-Out. The elevated park, known as “The Catwalk.” Features some ground level amenities and a raised grassy park perfect for sunning, pouncing or just watching birds. Chipmunks, the garden tomato of the feline world, are plentiful and succulent. Hungry fror pictures yet? Of course you are! Wait no more. Here they are.

The Catwalk begins here, at the eastern edge of town, where it connects to the Cherohala Skyway Bridge across the Little Tenne River. On the other side of the river, connections to Burrville and the Tenne River Delta National Park provide land connections to the rest of the nation.

Close to the waterfront sits the Apostrophe Marketplace, a bustling hub for meat, fish, produce and assorted whatnots and doohickeys. Many a fine young Cherohalan has gotten their first job hawking wares here.

Across from the Apostrophe Marketplace is Walker Spring Plaza. Named for Casper Walker, founder of the market, this fountain is a fine tribute to one of the pioneers in East Tenne marketing. If you close your eyes while sitting on one of the benches, you may just see him coming by, waving his oversize novelty shears and calling customers to come in and cut their costs.

Overlooking the market is the Sign o’ the Shears condominium, owned and operated by Walker’s company. Woe to anyone who lurks around in the lobby waiting to pounce… Cas has personally promised to pounce back. And he means it.

Need more entertainment? Cherohala is proud to offer a fine outdoor theater, suitable for plays, concerts and shadow puppetry. In the S & H Green Theater today, Hamlet, a story about a little ham, by Bill Shakespeare.

Would you believe the pond atop The Catwalk is stocked with fish? Just dip your paw in and a free lunch is yours! Don’t like water? No problem! The net store is on the corner.

The western half of The Catwalk is on another tile, that of Middle Tenne. This is the first park to span two tiles in Schulmania. Impressed? You should be!

The western end of The Catwalk is at Camp Robinson, a military outpost protecting Schulmania’s frontier.

The barracks house two companies of the XIII Corps 28th Division 172nd Regiment, known by their nickname “Claws of Wrath.”

Missile Launch

The evil nation of Queensferry is using their military base on the eastern Schulmania coast both as a launching point for future ground assaults and for missile attacks. A missile base has been built in their Model City atop the ruins of the East Devonshire capital. Up until this point, launches seem to have been more for calibrating targeting equipment and not against us. That is, until now. The first missile attacks against Schulmania were just launched.

Meanwhile, unsuspecting Schulmania, with no radar or other detection technology, has no idea what has been launched against them. One can only wonder what scenic vista will be marred by charred rubble when the fiendish enemy is finished with their volleys of missiles. If Schulmania had air reconnaissance or radar, this is what they would have seen:

Curious to know what the targets for this assault are? Here’s the map showing the attack in detail.

The targets are Atkinos Crossroads, a strategic trading town located where the Atkinos, South Wirdleonia and New Atkinos districts meet and Little Castle, key to the defense of the southern plains.

Let’s see what damage has been done to these areas.

The destruction of Little Castle has also devastated the town. Queensferry has a potent new weapon and any town in Schulmania is now at risk of meeting the same fate as these two.
