An example of what Societies can do

Please look closely at the pictures in this thread.  This is a good example of what Societies is capable of doing.  Notice how he's painted his lots and how each house has a unique lot.

I still think the game is half baked, but its getting better.  Hopefully they will introduce regional play, better micro management, and more complex traffic options sooner than later.

Wow. I'm impressed. Those pics look like an actual city, unlike previously released pics of the game. But I'll still stick with SC4.

Extremely good looking. Fantastic stuff even. That must have taken a lot of patience to get done.

compared to what I'm used to see when it says SC:S, this looks phenomenal.

but this doesn't change my attitude towards the game. too much on the social side, as the name says already, and way to little on the sim(ulation of a )city side.

Looks good, but still WAY too cartoonish for me to even consider buying it as a (semi)realistic city game. I mean, come on look at the football goals!

wow, tough crowd! that is my city he is linking to by the way. thanks baertooth, I was just comming on Simtropolis to make this exact post. as some of you know I had a CJ here on simtropolis some time ago (still linked in my sig) but SimCity4 is just too limited for me anymore. I need 3D, I need dramatic views, I need the ability to make the city I want to make and SC4 just does not have the kinds of tools I need to do that.

yes SCS has its limitations; no terraforming, small city sizes, little strategy, but, a good artist knows how to work with limitations. I guess I just got bored with SC4. I must admit though, SCS is really just a snack to hold me over for Cities Unlimited. I am very much convinced that CU will be the SC5 that everyone was hoping for.

the thread linked to above is active and I am posting updates to it every so often.  also, for those don't know, you can click on the thumbnails for a bigger picture.  trust me, the pics look much better in their full size.

It's not you; it is the game.  2.gif

I probably couldn't even make anything worth shaking a schtick at with the damned thing.

SC4, Forevermore!

Currently preoccupied with architecture school...lurking with caution.

For SimCity Societies to look like that is indeed a leap forward. The suburbs look nice. I think I'll start my CJ over at Tiltedmill too.

Of course there are core values about the game that you can never change with any mod (things that SC4 players loved) like transportation networks, zoning, and others. We just gotta accept that fact.

Something bothers me about those football (soccer) pitches. I can just picture the ball veering into the road and causing a traffic accident.

Ever played Streets of SimCity? lol

And I have to admit, this is the first time I'm actually a little impressed with Societies. However, it still isn't just good enough for the majority of city simulation lovers.

The pics actually make me want to give SCS another try. But going through all that boring gameplay again makes me think otherwise...

I got the game today. I'd agree with Nemesis666. The game would be better if you could make the cities bigger, faster. To me, it seems not like a real simcity game, but more like a combonation of SC4 and the Sims 2. Not a bad game, though.

If I were to list the SimCity games, SCS would NOT be included, but I think Soldyne is part of an intrepid few that make SCS look better.

22.gifI'll be watching your thread, Soldyne....

thanks all for posting you comments here. It seems apparent to me that there are two kinds of City Builder People here; the mechanical types and the artist types. the mechanical types are not impressed with pretty screen shots and are disgusted with the simplicity of SCS. the artist types are more willing to be swayed by an artistic showing of the game. this is not to say that there are not people out there that are both. I actually think of myself as a mix of mechanical and artistic.

I was attracted to SC4 for the mechanical aspects of city simulation but I felt that it lacked the artistic capabilities I was looking for. SCS gives me the artistic content I want (although I would like more models to work with) but it lacks the simulation detail I seek.

I also think that there are a lot of people out there that are still bitter about SCS carrying the SimCity name. I agree, it should not have been called SimCity, but, what's done is done. (hey whats this I am standing on...oh its a soap box, sorry about that).

anyway, for those that are interested in seeing the rest of Fable Falls please feel free to join the Tilted Mill forums and post your comments. I really hate double posting in my own CJ just to give more updates and I have plenty of those! also, I started my CJ with the suburban area because I thought it was the least interesting part of my city. just wait until I show the city park and high rise complexes (those are my favorite areas).

I do agree with Ded that the suburbs look a little samey, but, in my experience most suburbs do look samey (all the houses are built with 1 of 3 or 4 available designs for that housing complex). I would have liked to have more colors but I am terrible with texture modding (all I have is MSPaint).

keep the comments comming.
