mATSTER57: Welcome to Simtropolis. Did you install it into your plugins folder?

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

Question. I have installed the NAM, and I do see the additional road/rail/etc. pieces in the game. But where is the dialog that allows me to adjust road capacities, etc?

It sounds like you're talking about traffic simulator selection. This is in the NAM installer, on the page after the license agreement. Near the bottom of the list box, you'll see a line that says, "Click + to select Traffic Controller Files." Do that, and you'll see them all.

it would be nice to have draggable 1 lane high ways that a the same 2 lane high ways, rather than using the RHW , also some more intersections/junctions and bigger roundabouts like those used for highway highway inerscections.

plus a mod so that trucks also move on the evening commute rather then just the morning and that there traffic is directed to a shop or commercial centre rather than just going to the edge of the city unless there is already a mod of that?

Long time player trying to get back up to speed, I am having problems keeping the games auto-mania to no disappear so quickly. Years ago when I had the game going it seemed like the version of NAM I was using allowed the cars and truck to stick around more then they do now. I can't even get a small traffic jam to show up the cars always vanish before it can happen. I have the currant NAM set to the highest spawn/retention rate and it still isn't visually what it used to be. Am I forgetting something?

Hi I have a problem that after I installed the simulator Z as part of the NAM, where ever the train/el train/monorail cross any form of road the sims cant drive on that road and that particular tile where they cross doesnt show light up on the traffic data viewer. Also the when i select train in the viewer the network of tracks doesnt show up in the viewer minimap or light up on the large map. I tried uninstalling the NAM and reinstalling it with a different traffic simulator and that made the problem go away so I'm pretty sure its a problem with the Z simulator, and help would be appreciated.

Hi mmaaattt,

This is usually a result of installing the NAM with the incorrect driving side option selected. If you have a left-hand version of the game (vehicles drive on left) then you'll need to select the Left-Hand Drive option when you install the NAM. If you do have a left-hand game and just clicked through the installation process, the then the right_hand file was installed by default.

I downloaded the 2009 NAM for windows and for when i install it the files are being associated with VLC and i have no idea how to fix it. I've never had this problem before. I'm using parrells to run windows on my mac.

I use VLC and I know when it is installed, one of the options windows is for setting files associations, and almost all of them are selected by default. If you did not change that particular option when you installed it, then that is probably how the files were associated with VLC. It shouldn't affect how they work in game, though. At least it hasn't for me when I've done things like that.

If they don't seem to work, or if you just want to get rid of it, you might try to uninstall VLC, then re-install it and be sure to deselect the file associations.

After Installing NAM to my mac version of the game I have lost the ability to use "my sim mode" properly. in that the sims that have been moved into their houses will not leave. I have also lost car traffic volume display in the chart mode. Where is this problem occurring? Thanks!

Since you are on a Mac, did you use the manual (Mac) version of NAM. If so, did you remove the necessary files from the NAM folder that you don't need, or did you place the entire folder in your plugins? Sounds like you may either have the right-hand/left-hand conflict or the Park-and-Ride option installed.

When installing the files, you need to remove the drive-side file that does not match your game. So a right-hand drive game needs the Right-hand component of NAM only, and likewise a left-hand drive game.

If you placed all the files in the Plugins, then the Traffic Simulator Z_Park and Ride option is taking effect since it is loaded last alphabetically. You will need to remove the ones you don't want from the NAM folder.

I need clear guidence....

I haven't played in a Looong time and I have a nearly fresh copy installed. My questions is, are these 3 files

1) NetworkAddonMod_Setup

2) NetworkAddonMod_Update_Setup

3) NetworkAddonMod_Essentials_July_2009

the only ones I need to install or do I need to install an older version? And is this install order good? Thanks

If you haven't updated in awhile, just pick up the first one, which is the complete NAM package.  It contains everything that is in the second and third files.

Thanks Alex.

So I don't need the update (2)? And what about (3), what is this primarly for? I read the discription and I do have RHW, not sure about the SAM, or the HSRP.

I should point that I have a lot of modds, so the NAMS I have are because something else needed it in the past. To give you rough idea, I have over 1gig (including the NAM's).

So, just install (1) for now and then...?

You're most certainly welcome!

And to answer your question, you just need #1 on the list--it has everything you need to get back up to speed on the actual NAM Core.  #3, the NAM Essentials package, basically just consists of the RUL Controller file.  We originally created that package with the intent that it would make it possible to update the RUL files when we released any sort of plugin separate from a NAM Core update.

However, as it has worked out that all additional plugin releases (like the RHW, HSRP and SAM) have coincided with NAM Core releases over the past 2 years, NAM Essentials has been quite "non-essential".  We've kept the package around for the possibility that we might one day have an RHW release or something that doesn't coincide with a full NAM Core update, but right now, it just contains the same RUL Controller that's in the current NAM Core.

Generally speaking, if the most recent NAM Essentials has the same date on it as the NAM Core, you don't need it.  All the support for the most recent RHW, SAM, HSRP, and RAM (Rail Addon Mod) is contained within the NAM Core right now.

Depending on when you last downloaded the RHW, you'll probably want to update that as well.  The most recent version (Version 3.2) came out in March 2009, which you can pick up here

If you have old NAM versions in your Plugins, you'll want to clear those out before installing the new one (the rest of your Plugins, provided they don't contain copies of RUL files, should be fine).  Otherwise, a number of issues like the infamous "Red Arrow Bug" can come about as a result of RUL File conflict.  There's more information on that contained in the "NAM FAQ" linked in my signature.

Yes, #1 should get you all set up and ready to go!

Hope that helps!

OMG Alex, that was so clear and precise, thank you soo much. I'm very happy that everything is consolidated into one file, this makes life that much easier. I have a clean Plugin folder, so I wanted to make sure I didn't start off debugging.

Thank you again.

PS.

The CAM and the NAM will still work together correct?

And to answer your question, it's a definite yes.  I've been using the CAM with the NAM just fine for the past 2 1/2 years.  I would, however, make sure you do not install the "Traffic Plugins" that come with the CAM--they are rather outdated and there are newer Traffic Plugin/Simulator options in the NAM (Simulators A, B and Z) which work much better with the CAM and allow for proper functionality on the wider, multi-tile networks included in the RHW.

Is monorail the only thing not working or is other rail networks not working also? Do you happen to have a left-hand drive game? If so, you may not have installed the left-hand component of NAM that is needed for left-hand drive games. If you do need this NAM component, re-install and select the Left Hand Drive option in the setup routine.

I just downloaded NAM last night. It is amazing! Just one question: Where can you get GLR stations? I've checked every menu and I can't find them!

I claim to practice architecture, but in reality architecture practices me.

1200+ hrs in C:S and counting.
