I start with an open debate to sim city fans....will this mess stop you from buying spores? i myself think spores looks amazing! however! if will wright gonna let sim city be trashed and rot like this then to hell with him and spores, he sold maxis to the borg of EA and he has lost my respect 15.gif

only thing gives me hope is city life 2008 and cities unlimited for the future of city simulation games! sim city will unlikely recover from this mess, and in a lot of ways the damage has been done 15.gif

hope 1 day ea go bank rupt!

my post is asking u will you buy spores? i personally think sim city fans shud make a statement to will wright by not buying it and expressing there disgust when reviewing spores, gd to see new games but don't sell ur work to be trashed by mindless idiots

Will Wright has had nothing to do with SimCity since SC3000, I don't think SCS should have any impact on an upcoming title by the remanents of Maxis.  Spore looks to be a great game, and personally I judge each title by its own merits.  The only connection between Spore and SCS is the fact that they share a publisher.  Different developers, and different studios.  That said, I don't exactly love Will Wright either, as he is one of the first to jump on the casual game bandwagon.  Casual gaming is a term used in the gaming industry to make cheap games that outsell major developments, because they are aimed at "casual gamers" people who don't want to have indepth games.  Or people who used to be termed as beggining gamers, those who were just experimenting with video games and still needed the hook to hold on to them.

Now these people are looked at as disposable buyers, what I mean by this is that they aren't making games aimed to hook them in deeper to continue playing games, they aim to sell that one game to them and thats it, on to the next.  The problem here lies that after awhile the games are begining to consolodate into just a few genres that sell the best.

Of course this is most likely Cyclic in that it will eventually die out as a fad and gaming will once again evolve.

Now that the rant is through, I definitely am looking foward to Cities Unlimited!19.gif

Although I don't like the path the City Simulator genre has taken since Sim City 4, I don't think it will stay on that path for long. SCS was, overall, a disappointment for both the fans and EA, and I hope they will learn from their mistakes.

CU looks promising, and I hope the next Sim City game (Simcity creator said to be scheduled for March 2011) will resemble SC4 more than it did for SCS. Just my thoughts on the matter anyways.

    Best,

CU has my vote of confidence simply because it isn't being developed by EA. There is not a single series that company has not ruined.

Robstersfive, I agree with every word you said. CU is one of the last hopes for the city building genre - let's hope that EA will realize that and produce a real Simcity game, not like that 'spinoff' Societies, which would have been better off without the Simcity prefix.

I would say that the simulation genre is going down as a whole...after the RCT series was done without Chris Sawyer and fans hated it, all the cheap "Tycoon" titles, which had further destroyed the genre, fell into the black hole. Keep stoking the SimCity 4 flame guys...it's selling well for a five-year-old game...

~ COMING SOON! Exciting new projects! ~

In my opinion we should give a chance to SCS with its add-on Destinations...

And i think that CU will finish like Boiling Point because too much promising and deceiving at the finish

City Life 2008 is an excellent frisbee for me because it doesnt work for me...

I hate how people are already saying the city-building genre is dead. Just because you have a few years of bad games doesn't mean the genre's dead (like that 3 year period of nothing but Medal of Honor 43.gif).

And what's all this about Simcity never recovering? Apparently most people think its a pathetic game. Simcity 5 (the real one) is already scheduled and that is made along the same lines as Simcity 1-4 and by the same developer (I think).

Don't write off the genre just yet!

I highly dought that will ever happen. EA charges so much for there games that if if EA sold no more games they probably last for 10 years.

What they need is for Will Wright to return to the Sim City games. We need Tilted Mill to piss off and bring Maxis back. About Spore, i havent seen alot of it yet, so i'll do my research and find out if its good or not....

I woudn't say "dead", however I think it's sad that the technology is finally there where there could be some really cool, fun 3D city sims and yet they all suck. Societies is incomprehensible, Cities Unlimited was 1/2-assed, I don't know how Cities XL will be, but I'm not hopeful. They all seem to miss the basic formula that made SimCity fun. You lay your transportation and infrastucture network, zone areas for residential, commercial and industrial buildings and then plop services like schools, parks and police to encourage the zones to develop. I don't want to plop every single building by hand along a smplistic road network.

IOW, just make SimCity 4 / Rush Hour with full 3D and angled/curved roads.

EA bought the MAXIS brand just for the Sims, which fits their core games better than Sim City does. Face it, they like online games that they can start charging a fee to play ontop of the cost of the game. Pay to play is the future of most games, and when they try it with SC, well, it will end the game. A lot of us dont mind if an online fee is there, as long as we can play the game solo and not pay it (my credit card never goes out over the web, as I dont have one, but if I did, why should I trust the gaming companies to keep that info safe? heck, wal-mart can't.)

Whatever the stage, and I hope SC-5 is really coming, I cant say that I will be buying it. For those of you who didnt notice, there was no system requirements on Societies' box, which is why I still aint bought it. Why buy a game I cant run or can't know if I can run?

I still have hopes, cant wait to get cities unlimited if I can run it, or even citylife. but my hopes for good games, well, remember gang, SC2000 was a major disappointment, SC3000 only moderatley better, then came SC4, the Home run.

Regards to all, and may all our gaming dreams be fulfilled,

    -Calico Jack

    Wow.

A] Your grammar and spelling are sad.

B] SimCity is [keyword comming up] just a game, and SC4 came out five years ago

C] Why do you associate SimCity with Spore? They are / will be speperate games anyway.

Really. Count your chicks/amphibians/reptiles after they hatch.

I made a point of not buying any EA in house games but there are two exceptions Sim city and Spore. Spore i will buy because Will Wright is doing it and i know it will be well supported. But i wouldnt buy any other EA game including SCS. I will still buy games that EA distribute but dont own.

I have said this in many threads EA will not recover from this because MC will have the fan base that EA once had. Even if EA brings out a SC5 they will be struggling to get people back from CU.

And EA still hasn't learn there lesson. SCS was a flop and they are releasing a add on pack for it.

The execs at MC must have thought this was gold when EA made this mistake. If CU is as good as SC4 MC will have my money and my support and the Sim city series will be dead. This will go down in gaming history as one of EA biggest blunders.

And i am also glad Sid Meir did not sell out Take2 to EA. If this had happen we would have ended up with a new game Grand theft Madden.

Don't forget Command and Conquer. The latest game in that series has lost 90% of its player base over the past year, and if you look at their forums, it's a nonstop series of anti-EA net riots.

Agreed about Command and Conquer. Whereas the Generals series was pretty good, they made a total flop with Tiberium Wars.

And about the anti-EA sentiment, I feel it is completely justified.
