Hey, draxs! Welcome to Simtropolis!

Concerning your first question, the reason that you can't place the elevated rail station is probably because you are trying to place it on rough terrain or on a hill. You must have flat land. Try using the terrain tools in the mayor mode panel to level out that terrain, and see if that works.

For your second question, you can only place a toll booth highway on flat land. Also, if the area close to where you want to place the toll booth has roads and streets connecting up to it, it won't allow you to place it.

And remember that the issue could always be that you don't have enough funds in your city's bank account. Try checking that out, see if it helps. If this ends up being a bug, I'll help you out some more.

Hope this helps,

your friend nihonkaranws

    Hello again

Well i dont think it has to do with the surface being flat,

because i am facing the same problem in the Rush hour tutorial

In the tutorial , when i am asked to build the station and then the tracks

I am not able to connect the tracks to the station

its the same problem in my city too

Do you think its a bug?

no.. in all likelyhood you're using the wrong type station... new stations are "drop on draggable" and old stations are "plop in the hole of puzzle pieces" .. if you don't have the right one they seem not to work.. this is in the GLR doc's as I recall.. if not you may h ave to go over to SC4D and read up on the "draggable glr" till you get the hang of it. it isn't that hard

Eh, I think we have a mix up, since you are talking about the El-rail that can be found in Misc. transportation menu. . . SC4boy is thinking that you have the NAM and are talking about something slightly related. Now, about the station problem you have, have you tried to run the rail into the station, not just to the edge of it?

He might be mixing up monorail- and elevated train-stations as well.

Be sure to have the right type of station.

    monorail<-/->elevated train.

UPDATE_SKU1_TO_P1_B638 is the game update available at the official site. Have you updated since installing the game? If not, you'll need to register the game and login to update.

Also, I noticed you mentioned using the Rush Hour tutorial. Do you have SC4 Deluxe or are you using SC4 + Rush Hour? I thought your problem might be caused by having different versions of the original game and the RH expansion (just a guess). Of course, if you're using Deluxe, that wouldn't apply.

As a last resort, have you tried reinstalling?

    Just a few thoughts...

You can copy any of the regions in the My Documents\SimCity4\Regions folder to another location (the Plugins folder also if you have something there) and then paste them back after reinstalling. If I remember correctly, if you use the game's uninstaller, you will be asked if you want to keep your saved your cities. Also, remember to re-update the game if you reinstall. Good luck.

Presuming that we are talking about the original (unmodded - no third-party plugins) game -

First make sure that you are running from end to end of the station - not trying to make the station the top of a T; with the track being the leg. If in doubt - try laying track from the center tile of the station (actually on top of the station) past either end of the station.

Second - double check that you are running the right type of track - try both monorail and elavated-rail - with your station.

Third - if you haven't yet solved the problem - place the station in open (away from any other types of transit) and flat terrain, and repeat the double check from "Second" (above).

If this still hasn't helped any - could we see some pictures - please?

Thank you, draxz, for the pictures.

The first - for the tollboth is the easiest - you need to be one tile further away from the avenue to place a toll booth.

That is you need two complete highway tiles between the avenue conversion(s) and your toll booth.

From the second picture - it looks like you just need to drag from the track (from where you have the yellow) onto, or completely across, the station to get the rail to connect to it - please remember - use the "Elevated Rail" to do this.

From the third picture - it looks like the rail is one tile off from lining up with the station; for Elevated Rail - you must drag the rail onto (or completely across) the station to get the connection(s)  The tiles next to the station - along either 3-tile side - needs to be some form of road, which will then get rid of that no road zot..

The fourth picture appears to be adding the wrong type of rail (ground rail?) to the left of the station - and one tile off - in the other direction from where the rail is off in the thrid picture.

Or - if alignment really is an issue - maybe run the rail through first - then plop the station down on-top-of (or underneath) the elevated-rail.  NOTE - don't run any other transit (i.e. road) under the rail, right next to where the station is going in - as placing the station will cause the rail over said other transit to be removed.

If none of the above helps with your Elevated-Rail issue - then you may need to consider checking just what plugins you are using.

If you just started to play the game, I wonder which version you're running.

Did you install both Sim City Rushhour and the latest patch?

You're lacking ground textures and even the textures for the tracks when being dragged looks weird as well.

    Did you mod your game?

I don't believe you're trying to fool us, nobody is that stupid that he's dragging the rails on one picture in front of the station, on the other picture behind the station without finding the right grid in the center to get it work.

Well Dukat , the pics are off because i did not take in in order

Now they are in order so you can see what i am talking about.

NetPCDoc as i told you i have SC4 deluxe version , and all i have in the plugin folder is

    Background3D0,Background3D1,Background3D2,Background3D3,Background3D4 - they are images.

is there any patch or plug in i need to install for SC4 Deluxe version. I have not installed any patches or a plugin

I have again uploaded another set of pics

The first pic shows me selecting the Elevated rail tracks after placing the elevated rail station

then the second pic shows me aligning up the tracks in the same line of piles as the station

the third pic shows me dragging the track until the station

the fourth pic shows that i have released the button and the tracks are placed

and the fifth pic shows me trying to drag the tracks across the station ( yes its in the same line as the station)

I still dont understand why this is a problem with my aligning because , i am having the same problem with the rush hour tutorial , its the same thing when i try to place the track its not connecting

    draxz...

You may want to try updating your game. The update for Deluxe can be found on the official site (see a couple of posts above), although, I'm not sure that's your issue. As Dukat mentioned, you seem to have a couple texture issues: no texture under the station and a strange colorization around your tracks. Both are irregular. (I've seen the track collorization before - it was caused by mod/texture conflicts.) If you are sure you have no plugins in either plugin folder, you could try the update, but you may have a bad install and might need to try installing over.

Okay, stop. From just looking at your pictures I can tell that there's something seriously wrong with your game. You probably just experienced a bad install.

You seem to have a big problem with the Maxis made base textures not showing up at all as well as construction textures or even zones staying on lots that have already grown. It's also very strange that you've got a brownish coloured hi-lite when you try to drag the el-rail (pic 3) this should either be blue of red.

You need to empty your plugins folder (if you've downloaded anything) and re-install, I've seen this before and I'm confidant that it'll fix all your problems. Oh, and once you do, you're probably best not to play on these cities with the problems again.

    Okay draxz,

The yellow - while dragging a transit network - is normal; the brown texture under where you are dragging indicates some sort of problem; in my experience this brown texture problem is usually related to a texture plugin package.

However - if you are playing the SC4 Deluxe - out of the box - without any updates,

I would highly recommend that you register your game with EA

    - getting yourself a login id and password,

and go to the official site

(if using the link installed with the game - and you get a SimCity Societies webpage,

scroll down and you will find a link to SimCity4

    - between the SimCity/DS and SimCity3000 links).

Once you are logged into the official SimCity4 site

    - you want the update link off of the Help button.

Follow the instructions on the first page - make sure SimCity 4 is NOT running, and click next.

The second page should tell you what version of SimCity you currently have installed,

followed by the version of the latest patch for your SimCity,

if the patch number is higher (such as 1.1.635 installed w/ 1.1.638 patch)

    - then do patch your game.

Once you have correctly installed the above game patch,

you may want to check out the B.A.T. page -

Cool Stuff button - tools - Building Architect Tool (B.A.T.)

and find the "SimCity 4 Update" (a.k.a. SC4Update4BAT) and install this patch too.

This gives you the support to properly use any B.A.T.-ed lots that you might want to download.

Then try the elevated rail again.

Please let us know how this works out?

BTW - how is the highway toll booth doing?

I am also finding the same problems. After searching the net for hours now i can say that i am clearly not alone and their is a complete lack of info in regards to a fix.

In the case of the tutorial it allows for no mistakes and as such must be a bug or sorts.

The best advice i have found so far is here, many thanks however I have followed all of the guides from patches to reinstalling. Nothing helps.

Hey folks. I have the same problem, draxz, SCATTY, ravenoak. I also have a solution, although it is annoying cause it takes that much extra time. But anyways, I have the NAM and you need it to if you're doing this. I make my station, then run the line to the station so that it should connect (but it doesn't actually right?) Then I go and select one of the items containing the mono or el rail that is added by the NAM. (It's one of those things that allows you to put several different things on one tile, such as el rail above a street) and then place it on the last tile before the station.

Basically, you're manually placing a connection from the line to the station. You'll end up having a one tile street that goes nowhere from nowhere right beside the station, and it looks silly, but maybe you can work it into your road system. If you're not familiar with NAM, get it and play around with the extra tools it gives you, keep in mind what I've said, and you should be able to figure it out. Good luck!

    Hopefully

That's creative but not really a solution, you shouldn't have to manually connect them like that, not to mention the rest of the game is clearly broken. why even worry about el-rail right now?

To the rest of the people in this thread, does your game look as messed up as the op? Green zone showing below houses (this is NOT normal), no ground texture except the default grass, etc.

Listen to cockatoo people, delete your plugins folder, uninstall sc4, then reinstall it. this is not supposed to happen in an unmodded game with a clean install, no matter what version. If that doesn't help, post your OS, game version, a couple hardware specs, maybe there are similarities. Make sure you specify whether or not you have the same problem as op (rail + textures), if your textures are fine but el-rail doesn't work, or vice versa.

I had the same problem as above, and now I have the solution as well..

The connection issue, that you can't drag over the station and/or place a toll both over a road (as well as connect rails to sub-to-elevated transition) is A BUG. No terrain, orientation, funds etc.  problems. IT IS A BUG. Patching the game to the latest version WON'T HELP either.

    The SOLUTION:

It's quite simple. Just un-install the Game completely. Re-install it once again. DON'T do all tutorials from the beginning, just do the RH one straight away. YOU SHOULD NOW BE ABLE to drag the el. rails over the station ,as well as place the toll both over the road. IT WORKED for me.

    Good Luck!

I Had the same problem as well . Solution to this problem is downloading the "Modern Toll Booth" plugin . After installing this the EL-Train Stations and toll booths can be connected

Thanks. That's it.  The problem was in the tutorial, so I knew that none of these solutions about using the wrong rail or a different rail would work, as the tutorial only allows you to click on what it wants you to click on.

The monorail would connect to one station but not to the other. The error message kept saying unsuitable terrain.

But instead of un-installing and reinstalling, I reset the game by moving out my simcity4 folder to my desktop and loading the game and playing the Rush Hour tutorial first, and it was fixed.

Without your post, I would not have solved this problem.

I just started playing simcity 4 for the first time and I came her searching for a solution to the problem of not being able to connect the elevated rail to the elevated station. Im sure you all know how frustrated I am because everybody comes up with a stupid answer by calling you stupid and claiming our not doing something right. I downloaded the update pack and that didnt work I ran the game in compatibility mode and that didnt work but filially I found the problem.

The solution to this issue that worked for me is the Graphics options. I had adjusted the graphics options in the game and the problem was solved. I dont know exactly which options is the issue because I adjusted them all at once to increase the graphics to its highest settings. I dont feel like playing around to find the specific option that works. I just wanted to inform anybody else that they may need to configure their graphics options
