    Preface

Mabuhay! Welcome to my 2nd City Journal (the first being the "city state of Clarkstown" which was lost during my computer upgrade last year).

My second attempt at a city journal is about my city of Puerto Joya.As in Clarkstown, it is about a fictional Philippine City, this time however, the city takes the place of Davao (the Philippines 3rd largest city). So with this CJ, Davao will be nonexistent as i will use parts of its history (or at least be inspired from it)

some articles in the introduction are taken from (but edited) wikipedia so i do apologize in advance if i may have committed copyright infringements

    The City of Puerto Joya

    Introduction

The City of Puerto Joya: De Facto Capital of Mindanao ( Lungsod ng Puerto Joya ) is one of the most important cities in the Philippines and the chief city of the island of Mindanao. It is one of the largest city in the Philippines in terms of land area, occupying an area of 928 square kilometers. The City  is also the main hub, outside of the capital, of international flights into the country and is the most important center of commerce, trade, and industry in the Visayas and Mindanao, the southern parts of the country.   Puerto Joya has a population of 1,725,355 people (2005 estimate) in 240,057 households (2000 census). It has about 2.5 million people in daylight hours.

    History

    Founding of a City

Prior to the coming of the Spanish colonizers, Puerto Joya was a fluorishing fishing village and trading post with trade relations with nearby settlements within the island as well as nearby Borneo and Sulawesi.

Spanish influence was hardly felt in Puerto Joya until 1848, when an expedition led by Don Jose Oyanguren came to establish a Christian settlement in the southern part of the island of Mindanao. He then named the region Nueva Guipozcoa, in honor of his home in  Spain, and became its first governor. under his rule, Nueva Guipozcoa gradually grew as migrants from other towns settled in.

    Early Development

A few years after the American forces landed in 1900, private farm ownership grew and transportation and communication facilities were improved, thus paving the way for the region's economic growth.among the important infrastructures were the creation of a port and the creation of a region-wide railway

A Japanese entrepreneur named Kichisaburo Ohta was granted permission to exploit vast territories which he transformed into  abaca and coconut plantations. He established extensive abaca plantations all over the region and developed large-scale commercial interests such as copra, timber, fishing and import-export trading. Filipinos learned the techniques of improved cultivation from the Japanese so that ultimately, agriculture became the lifeblood of the province's economic prosperity.

In 1920, with the growth of the economy from agricultural exports, the local businessmen lobbied for the

A very nice start for the CJ. I like the way you show it now and then and you have used a style very well to evoke a sense of space. Nice to see you back in the CJs.

This is looking very nice. The layout of the city has a nice flow and awesome story line as well. The black and white pictures give a nice touch to it, not much to complain about except in the Ladislawa Garden Village pic I noticed the streets were very bumpy and I've always been a stickler for flat or smooth hills, try using the rail perhaps to smooth it out before you lay down a street, just a suggestion of course. Keep up the great work you definetly have some city building talent!

this is an amazing start! great photoshopping with the "early days" pics, and also with the present day ones.

the only critique I have is the pic with the diagonal rail line. you should check out this mod over on SimPeg. it'll get rid of those ugly tan dirt patches underneath the rails. you have to be registered there, though, to download.

other than that, absolutely perfect work! i'll be back for more, you can count on it!
