My favourite bands, in no particular order, would have to be:

U2, Crowded House, Queen, The Beatles, The Eagles, Kyo (a current French band), Maroon 5 and The Bravery

I also have a strange liking for 80s music (don't ask for bands - they were all one-hit wonders!)

As for baroque, classical and romantic:

    1. Mozart
    2. Vivaldi
    3. Dvorak
    4. Grieg
    5. Chopin
    6. Rachmaninov
    7. Tchaikovsky
    8. Beethoven
    9. Mussorgsky
    10. Handel

I hope that no one will have any objection with me bringing this near ancient thread back to life. Its been almost three years since I first started it and almost a full two years (in a little more than a week) since it had its last post. I'd like to list my current favourite bands. - the beatles - klaxons - the zombies - blur - yeah yeah yeahs - led Zeppelin - john Lennon - Adam & the ants - megadeth* - art brut - artic monkeys - blue

Dream Theater all the way. They are sooo good, and they all have Phd's in music. So you can say they are the rocket scientists of music.

The old favorites are the likes of The Ramones, TOTO, Die Toten Hosen, Queen...

The current favorite taking over my playlists are the old j-rock crooners of L'Arc~en~Ciel. I can't even speak Japanese, but somehow not knowing the words doesn't seem to matter.

Hmm . . . I'll try to do a top-10.  The first 3 stay pretty stable, but the ones below change frequently.

    1. Yes

    2. King Crimson

    3. Emerson, Lake and Palmer

    4. Radiohead

    5. The Who

    6. Spoon

    7. Turing Machine

    8. Coldplay

    9. Pink Floyd

    10. Jethro Tull (except their 80s stuff, which is absolute rubbish)

I guess you could say that I'm into various combinations of prog, indie and alternative.

    -Fair To Midland

    -He Is Legend

    -Muse

    -Nas

    -Dream Theater

    -Art of Noise

    -Eminem

    -King Crimson

    -Thrice

    -DangerDoom

Hm, I haven't seen this thread yet. Here goes:

I listened to hair metal in high school. In the late 90s. I was so lame (no, that should be in caps). I was SO LAME. Then I heard "Pardon Me" by Incubus and it all changed. Anyways:

Incubus is probably my favorite. I used to post regularly at enjoyincubus.com's forum. Then they made "Morning View" and the site was overrun by teenage girls...

    Also,

Tokyo Jihen (jazzy rockish Jpop, but actually quite good)

    The Ulfuls

    New Found Glory

    Ludacris

    Finch

Yoko Kanno and the Seat Belts (they did the incredible soundtrack to Cowboy Bebop, some fantastic jazz)

    Rush

    John Williams

    George Gershwin

Occasionally you'll catch me listening to Nelly or Eminem on Youtube...

EDIT:  I totally forgot Led Zeppelin, which is a crime against humanity on my part.  Let the record show that I also love Led Zeppelin and at one point had all of their cds, including some bootlegged concert discs obtained through the gray market2.gif

    Hmm, lets see...

    - Lostprophets - Start Something was the first album I ever bought, and Last Train Home is quite possibly one of the best rock songs ever written.

    - Modest Mouse - Their newest stuff (We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank) isn't as good as their old stuff, but I still find it incredibly catchy. Their early EPs and albums are some of the most strangely awesome music I've heard.

    - Muse - Newest addition here. Absolution was a brilliant, if depressing, album, and all the other songs of theirs I've heard seem to keep up. (Granted, I think Supermassive Black Hole is a bit overrated, but it's not bad.)

    Honorary Mentions:

30 Seconds To Mars, Nirvana, Pink Floyd, She Wants Revenge, Editors, Snow Patrol, The Killers, M83, Antimatter, Linkin Park, Incubus, Green Day, Flyleaf, Audioslave, RHCP, The All-American Rejects, Radiohead, Tokio Hotel, Submersed... and plenty more.

As you can tell, I've got pretty eclectic taste.
