Is this game worth getting?

It doesn't look to be too custom content friendly, and it looks a bit cartoonish to me. But that is the direction EA Games seems to be going these days. They have a cartoonish Sims on the way, and they are developing Spore, a cartoonish combination of command and conquer, populous, and simcity set on an alien world.

I don't really like the bright colors and what not. It looks too childish to me. Is it worth getting and how long would I play it before it got repetitive?

It's a bit the same as "Will you buy it ? (pool has been added)" now locked tread. By the way, this isn't Electronic Arts, nor Maxis that develops the game, buy Tilted Mill, even if he makes it with directions of EA. For what i think it will be a first, there will be a game demo available for the game, whose full version will be released in less than a month now. We can expect to have our hands on the demo a bit sooner than that, which can make us decide to purchase, or not, the full game.

I also saw the screenshots and, i little disagree about the cartoonish style. Of course, i saw screenshots that were really cartoon, especially the now famous ones with lamp post looking like a candy cane, but also saw others more realistic. I won't get into the battle between SCS and CU about which one is the most realistic looking, since it looks abvious it's an easy win though.

My main hope for now, it that this thread won't make a flame/slander/troll again, i'm for now more concerned by the way some in our awesome community can react than about the game itself ...

Just to satisfy curiosity?

I would say "no".

That would just give EA their profits, which is all they want ... otherwise they would have developed a proper Sim City sequel.

I think the fewer fans of Sim City that buy this, the better. Might make a real sequel to the series come about faster.

That's why I'm not buying it, among other reasons.

And it's my hope that if the game flops with the core Sim City base (ie true fans of the series) ... it will teach EA a much-needed lesson in betraying their customers.

Get Cities Unlimited or something ... it looks to be more like Sim City that Societies is! (I refuse to even call it SCS lol)

are they still have the Zonage thing or is it only placing any building one by one? Is it as the same as City life...? Because if it is, its not worth to buy the game...What i would like is they keep the region and multiple cities...but they remove the grid thing..like you can build in any orientation that you want without losing space...that would be a huge progress. And for the fan of european kind of cities it could help a lot 9.gif. + sure get higher graphic+more realistic polygones. + get more different cultures Like: Asian, arabian, Occidental,European,Russian, Latin and etc+ with different times to give your city a little more taste 4.gif+ Sure make the technology following the time like no paved road for a city you start before the 1870+ more...That would be a real sim city 5 common now we got dual core and quad core with more than 1 gig of ram we can use these advantages....

Please consider that nobody is in a position to answer this question.  After it is released the people who have played it sufficiently may be able to answer, but even then their answers will be completely subjective.

As of now, the only answer that makes sense is, we'll just have to wait and see.

You may be right that with the power of computers currently sold on the market, it's possible to do awesome things death reaper, but currently software developers are most likely to prefer making games that should work fine on most the computers, since not everybody has the ways to replace his computer every year ... If someone is looking for a game with the better potential features possible, he may look for the games coming in 2008, since the requirements will be at least a bit higher, and maybe significantly, because christmas will be past and with it, maybe, new computer sales ...

The lack of different types of roads and zoning turned me off pretty fast. The whole idea of the goal of "prosperity" sounds kinda boring.

Zoning ....

Zoning is the ESSENCE of Sim City

A lack of zoning alone shows how dumbed-down this game will be

Add the lack of variety of roads .... only ONE type??

Sorry, this game contains nothing that made Sim City what it is

i'm hoping that they'll release an expansion pack for added transportation options.... at least then i'd really be into the game

however - i'm still buying it to see if i can handle the change - it looks a lot like city life - but not exactly....

No. Wait for Cities Unlimited. A much better version of the same concept.

It depends on the kind of game you want. If you're after something to replace SC4, then no, this game isn't going to do it. If you're looking for a new city building game to play with, then yeah, maybe it's worth getting.

yeah i agree i think its a bit cartoonish for me and it doesn't look like the type of game I want to play - I'd wait for cities unlimited.

But thats just my opinion 3.gif,

Truthfully the graphics are spectacular compared to SC4 but the whole concept of the game is lost. I'm waitin for Cities Unlimited! But I will try the demo just to be sure.

Why all this speculation? Why don't you just wait until the game is out and scan the PC game magazines for a demo version so you can simply check it out yourself? Recommendations -as soon as they are possible, i.e. after the release- are nice, but after all, nobody can really know what will really appeal to you. People might say it sucks, but you might find yourself liking it - or vice versa, of course. 2.gif Patience, young Jedi. 3.gif

Knowing what I know about Societies, there is no way I will get this game. I like Simcity for the simulation aspects, not for the cute social experimentation that Societies wants you to be enthralled by. I honestly have no clue how they think their game will be replayable beyond more than a few hours. Once you learn all of the social types and what the buildings do, it is just a matter of fiddling with combinations and seeing what happens. Since there are not many social types and not very many useful buildings, the fun won't last long.

From a purely technical standpoint, they made the buildings be quite editable by using XML, and the terrain/climate should be moddable (with luck).

The networks.....well that's a flop. No NAM... and no development simulator or traffic sim...so those are flops too... (basically 50+% of pure mods for SC4 fall in here)

Rest of the game.. dunno yet. We'll see in a week.

Probably not worth it. It reminds me of a 3D Monopoly game I once had (Deluxe I think). The buildings were all bouncy and cartoony, and no customizable content.

looks very half assed imo. not worth getting since it will probably play nothing like the SC5 most people would have standards for

SC 4 + CS 1.6 = :]

I personally don't consiter this a part of the main SimCity series but more of a spin off as the Sims originally was. I am excited to see this game and all the concepts in it, granted CL had a similar scheme SC:S seems to go into it on a much more deeper dynamic level. I plan to buy it on the first day and have already reserved the game, I'm not shure what to expect so I'm not fearing disappointment.

Psycho if there is something better that you would like to talk about its cool, but if you were a true simcity fan you would understand the thrill of guessing and anticipating what the next game may or may not include. If not interesting enough for you, please try another post.
