Bring back the floods from SC2K!

I would also want snowstorms and hurricanes.

I also want these ive mentioned a and all diasasters ever used in the SC series, but much more realistic.

A meteor in SC4 which is like 20 feet in diameter will do much more damage in real life, and the volcanoes and earthquakes are pathetic and "geologically inaccurate".

Howlin' at the moon.

I want more realistic stuff like fires, floods, blizzards, Air crashes, train wrecks, car accidents, terrorist attacks (going out on a limb), maybe a Death Star Attack, a stormtrooper invasion, a roaming herd of crazed banthaas... oh well, maybe not all real.

Floods definitely, and maybe a terrorist bomb that blows up one of your transport structures

Terrorist Attacks would be a more realistic addition, but in the state of todays world, it would be a little too controvertial (leave the controversey up to Rockstar, eh? 2.gif )

Maybe just an 'Explosion' or something, leave what caused the explosion up your own imagination 3.gif

Could damage surrounding buidings and serverly damage or destroy the targeted building. I think Skyscrapers, Res Towers and large industry should be left standing and maybe on fire after an explosion, but Single family homes and smaller businesses can be destroyed... Extemely Flammable stuff like Oil Plants should make an even bigger explosion 3.gif

i think the desasters should come with the climate, or the region. Like Volcanos only in the mountinous areas,as well as avalanches, rock slides, and Earthquakes. And in a low lying area with a river, floods would happon in the winter and spring, not like huge floods but swelling. In citys by the ocean there should be a "high tide" and very rarely tsunamis, and in ocean Citys in a tropical envirnment ther should be Huricanes. Fires and car wrecks of coures everywhere. UFO should come only in Years obove 2100.

they should also be random generated and placeable

Ignorant comments aside, I don't think anyone mentioned having that as a disaster in the first place.  Kind of a random statement?  Or were you trying to say no terrorist disasters in general, I highly doubt Monte Cristo is going to have planes flying into buildings in the game.

So if you are saying no to terrorism in the game I agree, I don't think it really has a place in this sort of game, but its hard to get past the anti-french statement to try diligently to discern the purpose of your comment.

We should also have droughts, acidic rains, airplane accindents, industrial chemcial spills, and  power surges so we can see white flashing from buildings and sparks flying, and the buildings and other structures that require power would be damaged in the game. Why not have some big region disasters that would affect all the cities in the region? Make the landfill flamable please.

I personally would like to see natural disasters that happen randomly and are not controlled by the player, as they were in SC4. I would like to see explosions though such as gas explosions if building don't meet a level of maintinance

Crysis - Thats a pretty ignorant comment... what makes you assume they'd put something like that in the game in the first place? GTA is a more heartless game and even Rockstar made modifications to the final version of GTAIII in respect of 9/11. Mocking 9/11 or portraying it in a 'fun' way would be suicidal to a developer, you'd get sued by practically everybody, even nowadays 6 1/2 years later.

I wish it wasn't like that however... I like my games to be realistic as possible and Terror attacks, no matter how distasteful, are the reality of the threats relevant to today's world... depicting Terror attacks in games should be no more controversial than depicting the Germans or Japanese as bad guys in WW2 shooters... would people prefer they were replaced by Klingon's or something? Nobody can take anything with a pinch of salt these days, everything is offensive to everyone.

Tornados that actually suck things up and strow them miles away. The way the tornado's in SC4 beta were I liked those.

And yeh, a nuke would be be awesome. realisticly speaking its posible so dont exclude it to unrealistic disasters. you could script it like, you have 10 mins to find the bomb, terrorists blablabla.

SimTower had bomb threats, they can do that in a city too. you have to evacuate certain sections of the city, send out bomb squads. that would be neat.

I would love to see one disaster lead to another, like you start an earthquake off the coast and that leads to a tsunami, which leads to flooding, or a meteor causes a small quake and power disruptions. I would like to see envronment specific disasters like heatwaves and blizzards.

I live in Caracas, Venezuela. I think disasters are not real at all. Here when an earthquake occurs it destroy buildings very far from the epicenter, I would like to see that in SC4. Another thing are floods, Caracas has small creeks that sometimes cause floods, It would be great if a city in SC4 is hited by this kind of disasters. It also receive the impact of hailstorms that break windows. And Windy storms often occur between May and November. Another good idea is to introduce heat and cold waves. I think those disasters will make SC4 a more realistic game.

SC4? You mean Cities Unlimited right? Because SC4 will never be touched by developers again, we can only hope they make bigger and better things... CU seems to promise that in every way.

I would like a realistic volcano that spews a lot of lava, whose lava then turns into a new piece of earth, and which flows realistically.

@sparklight-I used to live in Caracas too 4.gif

I would like to see floods, landslides, tsunamis, hollows, earthquakes, fires, tornados, hurricanes (which are much bigger than tornados), meteors (plus all effects that they are causing), volcanoes (plus piroclastic clouds), etc.

Yeah that would be cool soldyne. As other people have said, disasters would have to be realistic and quite large (no more single trees spontaneously catching fire like in SC4, I want a large scale forest fire). Perhaps terrorist attacks would be taking it too far but there should at least be an option to add and create your disasters (for the people that know how, no need to create a special program or anything)

Why not create a plague? Then you can watch as your city's hospitals get mass overcrowded with people who are infected, and people dying in your city. Also, add in the locusts, then you can watch as the plants and farm fields are gobbled by by the insects. Lastly, bring in the riots.

Cities XL should also have random disasters based on where the city is located.

Well ... i live close to the fire station in a 100 000 poeples city and they firefighters go out about 6-7 times a night ........ here in SC ..... we got fire when you are very lucky lol ..... i guess having fire more often ... in the industrial or low residentiel could be realistic. Even iff you had 5 fire station....... major blaze occurs so often in city that make SC look like unreal about this points. Spring flood and tornadoes are thing that could occurs too...... well that what i think ....

Especially considering that it's not always people from the Middle East who does terrorism. (In fact the majority of them are, you know, normal citizen like us. Even the majority of the fundementalists are spreding their doctrines by constructive/grassroot means.) Italy suffered from terrorism during the 1970s-80s, and it was done by their own people, the neo-Fascists. Japan (where I am from) has its own share of extreme-right terrorists too, called the uyoku.

Anyway, back on topic. Yes, I think we need some man-made disasters too. Could we have a car chase, or a major traffic accident? Or if we cut the road/rail funding too much, then bridges collapsing, or rail derailments.

More realistic effects to buildings would be nice, considering a building doesn't collapse into a 2-D pile of rubble if it is hit by an earthquake. First off, if it is unreinforced masonry, it will collapse quickly and probably out wards into streets and stuff. If it is a skyscraper, it doesn't make a 50 square ft. cloud of dust and fall down. It will sway more and more, then probably sway off toward one side and fall on smaller surrounding buildings. If it is a flood, you would have plagues, riots, destroyed roads, etc. If it is a meteor, you would have a gigantic explosion, wiping out buildings in a huge radius depending on the size and density of the meteor. People would be burned badly and vaporized, hospitals would be crowded, etc.

Just a thought!

I posted this in the other disaster thread, but this one seems to be more active. All of those disasters sound great.

However, seasons is the ultimate realism for any city.  As I have read with many blogs about Cities XL there will be different themes for your cities structure, well how about locations too?

For example cities closer to the equator have a higher climate and cities further away have a cooler climate.

With these climates selected certain 'disasters' can apply to your city.  If your city is centralized in northern Canada there may be blizzards in the winter and droughts in the summer.

Cities along the eastern seaboard can have the risk of tsunamis from underwater earthquakes, but the main threat being hurricanes.

Many of the disasters you all have proposed seem like excellent ideas; I'm especially partial to the lightning storm one.  (It's always cool to see what a realistic effect would be if a lightning storm struck your city).

Another idea, although it may be somewhat obscure, is the fujita scale associated with twisters.  That way not every structure in your city is obliterated when a twister swings by.

Another thing we have to remember is that Cities XL main objective seems to build a city.  I know it's cool to watch your city crumble to the floor as you reach for the quit and don't save button.  But I really would like the developers to focus more on the aspects of building a city instead of destroying it.

@rusty777: Good ideas. Seasons would definitely make a big difference in the game. After all, you don't want a tornado at Christmas in your city.

I would love disasters in CitiesXL. Period.
