Songs that are stupid but nevertheless addicting

Boredom means I've compiled another list. You may add your own "nominations", and comment on and/or refute the nominations of others, but let's get one thing straight first: Any nominations are to be posted in the form Artist-Title, not the other way around. I see people do this sometimes in the "what music are you listening to" thread and it gets annoying due to the potential confusion it causes... when someone posts a song I haven;t heard of by a band I haven;t heard of, I have know way of knowing which is that artist and which is the song title, and am forced to guess. So I'm establishing a standard for this thread. Stick to it or I'll chuck kittens at you. That said, my list:

Right Said Fred- I'm Too Sexy (obvious one)

Sir Mix a Lot- Baby Got Back (also obvious)

Gwen Stefani- Hollaback Girl (less obvious. Some people hate this song)

Black Eyed Peas- My Humps (some people hate this one too)

Europe- The Final Countdown (The song is stupid, but the beat will keep you listening)

Styx- Mr Robotto (same story as above)

Vanilla Ice- Ice ice Baby (same story as above)

Fountains of Wayne- Stacy's Mom (the train wreck effect is at work here)

Ozone- Dragostea din Tei (you can thank Gary Numan for this one...)

Jamiroquai- Virtual insanity (hard to explain this one)

Baha Men- Who Let the Dogs Out (another train wreck)

Aqua- Barbie Girl (and another)

Los del Rio- Macarena (and another)

Gary Numan- Cars (just one of those weird 80's things)

The Bangles- Manic Monday (another weird 80's thing)

Cutting Crew- I Just Died In Your Arms (yet another)

Meatloaf- I Would Do Anything for Love but I Won't Do That (just because...)

Chamillionaire- Ridin' Dirty (a stupid yet awesome rap song)

Sisquo- Thong Song (another)

Sean Paul- Temperature (and another. at least 2/3 of the lyrics to this song are unintelligible...)

Blur- Song 2 (creatively named (not), short, impossible to decipher, yet catchy)

Los Campesenos- You! Me! Dancing! (you kinda just need to hear this one to get it. Seeing the video is better.)

Also, a tip: if someone posts a song you've never hears (or even heard of), search YouTube for it. Your chances of finding the actual music video, a video someone made with the song, or somebody's recording of it being performed live are quite high unless it's something really obscure.

A couple Primus songs come to mind.

And 99 Luft balloons.

From Alfred Bester's Nebula Award winning novel The Demolished Man, I give you Tenser Said the Tensor.

I won't post the lyric, even it is addictive and silly.  And the tune wasn't clear, but you could always use whatever you like for it.

Alright, you're spared the kitten chucking this time since I wasn't clear on this, but in the future, be sure to post the artist as well as the song title. Don't just assume people will know what you're talking about. "The Llama Song" is an internet invention and thus who wrote it is unclear, and "Bannanaphone" (it's one word, not two) is by Raffi, but as for those other songs on your list, I have no clue what you're talking about. Be clearer next time.

...and how could I have forgotten about Eiffel 65-Blue? I actually own that CD. It's an album full of stupid but fun songs. Techno is often like that. The stupidest song on the album is definitely "My Console", though. The song is about Jefferey Jey's (the group's vocalist) Playstation. Eiffel 65 is an Italian group.

Ozone (the band responsible for Dragostea din Tei) is from Romania. The lyrics of the song are in Romanian. Short after its release (before Gary Brolsman made his infamous video), it was covered by an Italian band called Haiducci. However, they claimed it was their  own song, not a cover, and a bit of debate over who's song it actually was ensued. It was legally concluded that Ozone did it first, but just about everyone in Italy claims that the findings were wrong and that Haiducci is the true artist (because they'd rather an Italian band have credit for it). Italians are quite a crazy bunch. I'm one of them, after all. That should be proof enough for you. 3.gif

Were I actually speaking to you in person I would have said that a different way, but I doubt the moderation here would appreciate the usage of what's technically an ethinc slur, even if it's one which applies to the user and is said in a purely tongue in cheek manner, so non devo...

I dunno, I gotta give that song credit for managing to use the same note seven times in a row and not having it sound completely stupid.

..still, Christmas music in general is annoying. Not because there's anything bad about it, but because it's the same damn songs year after year, just sometimes performed by different people. The genre is severely lacking of any originality.

Well wadda you know? Insane C.O.B and Duke, I'm stuck with Eiffel 65's Blue as well. And Ricky Martin's "La Vida Loca" is another one, Amal! But speaking of ABBA, next time you think of "Gimme, Gimme, Gimme", check out Yngwie Malmsteen's cover of it. Being Swedish, he decided to cover a song from Sweden's most popular band. Killer version! (He DID change the words to "some love" after midnight from "a man" after midnight, though, for obvious reasons!)

These are all daily plays on local stations...

"Don't Bring Me Down", Electric Light Orchestra...The classic rock format's go-to piece of crap

"Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo"...Rick Derringer. See above.

"Rock and Roll Fantasy"...Bad Company. This stinker was actually included on a disco compilation.

"Miss You", Rolling Stones. Let's stop pretending this is rock and banish it to the 70's station.

    "Bohemian Rhapsody", Queen

My, how long this list could be. I'm sure I'm showing my age with this! Annoying, yes. Addictive? Only to radio station program directors.

Let no one yield, we're on the field where deeds eclipse the sun; where the brave are told on a thread of gold, the tapestry is spun. As they speak of dreams, their armor gleams, this calm before the storm... Where all can see their destiny, the bishop takes the pawn.

I don't know if Scatman John was famous in US. It was a rage here at the parties in the mid-late nineties. Worthless and stupid lyrics but very addictive rhythm. Almost all the songs from Ace of Base (again Swedish) fit this category.

    Scatman vid: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ai6Xd6a-2HY

Try and figure out the lyrics your self. I have known this song for almost 10 years now...still havnt been able to figure out the lyrics. Ok I found them here. Go on! Try and understand the 'profound' meaning... 3.gif

    Beastie Boys - "Girls"

Annoying song, and he sings in that annoying voice...but I catch myself singing it every so often to myself.

    Iron Butterfly - "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida"

Did they really make a 17:00 song out of one single verse and chorus combo?  Yes, and it's awesome.

Some of the songs posted are ones I actually enjoy quite a bit (but I don't take offense for them being on here).  Gary Numan, Cutting Crew, "Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny"...Lemon Demon.  Great song, but kind of one of those one-off songs.  "99 Luftbalons" is pretty awesome, too.  Scatman John is great, "Scatman" is the first song that I can remember that I called 'my favorite song'.  He talks about a lot of things in that song, but some of his other ones have a clearer meaning (like "Let It Go").

With the trends in this thread, I'm surprised no one posted the song "I Ran" by A Flock of Seagulls, or "Cows With Guns" by Dana Lyons.
