Hi! I'm alos new, but I'm only new to the website, not the game. I saw how so many poeple cna make huge cities in a  matter of seconds. It's amazing! I cmae onto the website to see if I could get some tips and some reallly cool downloads. But to help me get started, I'd like to ask a bassic question. How do download tems onto the my game,(which is the the SimCity4 deluxe edition) and how do I transfer them to my game and find them when I need them?

Look in the STEX (ST - exchange), find a building you wish to download, click on the picture a box will appear, read the text then click "download", download to somewhere that you can find it, perhaps desktop, you have to unzip it, I use Winzip which you can get free. when it's unziped move it to My Documents/SC4/Plugins. Read the "Read Me" file and the Descriptions file. Download any dependences.

Here's a link to a brief explanation of downloading and other things related to using the custom content from the STEX that you may want to read through. Also, you mentioned that you have Deluxe... Have you also installed the updates for it? Some things in the custom content won't function correctly if you don't. Have fun and feel free to ask for help...

Hi guys!

I just reinstalled the game after a multi year hiatus, and I'm having to relearn the ropes.

Three questions:

1. Can I replay the tutorials? I've already completed them, and I see no way of doing them again.

2. Can I "clean" my used regions? I junked up most of them with crappy cities, and I'd like a clean slate.

3. I'm really anxious to get playing, but I keep hearing about the importance of the NAM. Is this really an indispensable download? I've never used a mod and I'm afraid it's going to be a pain to install and another time obstacle in the way to me starting playing!

A lot of people recommended using simulator z (I'm using ultra) but that only keeps the traffic cop off your back. abandonment still persist due to commute time.

Hi, im franco, from Mendoza Argentina, and i really love to play sim city... but now im bored, the cities were the same always.. I downloaded the NAM up-to-date, i pasted it in plugins folder, but when i play the game, i cannot create roundabouts, tunnels, train ways.. So, please, i need to know how can i do all these things!! Please, be patient, english it is not my native language.. Thanks!

Yes.. in fact there is a menu entry to "reset tutorials" or somewording very close to that in the "gears" menu

Yes.. just use the "obliterate" menu from the menu. It takes out all the "built" mayor mode stuff and goes back to the bare land.  You can even have some fun with it by using some "disasters" on it first..

If you are playing the Maxis regions (TImbuktu, etc)  from the game, just delete the regions.. they will be replaced from the install directory when you restart the game.

I'd hardly call it "indespensable" but it is a good.. though at first seemingly complicated, mod  Feel free to fool around with the game until you feel you want to use it.. I do suggest that you apply the Maxis patches and addons (Cool Stuff I think its called)

The NAM has many tutorials available both on SC4Devotion.com and on Simtropolis (look in the OMNIBUS section at the top of the page).. also on Youtube.. I suggest you take a look at those. That is not really a proper question for this forum..  You will have to do some digging on your own.

You will be able to find tutorials on ALL THE ELEMENTS of the NAM.. good luck.. Hope you enjoy it..

When I attempt to save a grayscale map, instead of getting a JPEG I get a CFM file.  What the heck do I do with it?

hey, I need help!... lets say i download a building, i extract it to plugins, but when i play the game and click on the building it comes out a big brown box not the building i downloaded,,,what do i do????

You need to get the Dependencies for the downloads you are using. Dependencies are other files needed for the lot to display correctly in the game. See Boggy's post for more info. Scroll to the Brown Boxes and Dependencies section.

Ive been playing SC4 since it got released and I never found this site til recently. Ive downloaded some rollercoasters and put it in the plug ins but when i go onto my game and go to put in my city, it has this big box around it, can anyone help?

The item you are trying to use has "Dependencies".  Check out the Brown Boxes and Dependencies section of this post.

I am new to Simtropolis and could use a little advice. I downloaded some lots and such, downloaded plugin manager and lot editor, and finally was able to access them into SC4 deluxe. WOW, did that slow startup! Any suggestions? Also, I am having trouble downloading regions to the game. Thank you.

Theres really not much to do about the startup issue, the more things you have, the more it has to load. Theres not much that can be done about that.

Welcome to Simtropolis...

Most items that are downloaded from the STEX (or other sites) need to be unzipped and placed in the Documents\SimCity 4\Plugins folder. Some items do include an installer (.exe) file that needs to be run and the files will be installed automatically. Once the files are in the plugins, the items will appear in the menus for placing or they will grow in cities when conditions are right.

I'll try to answer your question, but I'm ***** yet, so forgive me if I mess up this post...

You probably got a CFM when you right-clicked the link and "save link as..."-ed.

Instead, left-click the link, wait for the grayscale image to appear in the window and "right-click & save" on the image itself.

They are saved in the "[My] Documents\SimCity 4\Albums" folder.
