No, I said I was TLU. The result was my threatening of getting banned over at Wikipedia and here. I added back the AFD as leaving it like that might make things worse.

No, Thank you!  This discussion needs to be progressive if we are to succeed with keeping the article on Wikipedia.  Lets keep this thread constructive, not destructive3.gif

Excellent point! 4.gif We may give Wikipedia the wrong idea about this website and how friendly our people are, and that would work against us. 2.gif

The page doesnt have any [reliable] sources, if you're that upset, then go add them...if you cant find any, then its not that notable...simple. Wikipedia is not gonna keep a page just because fans want it, they keep it because it contributes the the general goal of Wikipedia.

If you all want that page so bad, why dont you figure out what needs to be added/changed and then do it? Thats much better than flooding AFD message boards. BTW, I already posted on WP about this thread. 2.gif

Um... What about this at the top of the article?

This article is being considered for deletion in accordance with Wikipedia's eletion policy" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia9.gifeletion_policy">deletion policy.

Please share your thoughts on the matter at this article's entry on the Articles for deletion page.

Feel free to edit the article, but the article must not be blanked, and this notice must not be removed, until the discussion is closed. For more information, particularly on merging or moving the article during the discussion, read the guide to deletion.

Steps to list an article for deletion: {{subst:afd}} • {{subst:afd2|pg=Simtropolis|cat=|text=}} ~~~~ (categories) • {{subst:afd3|pg=Simtropolis (3rd nomination)}} log (add to top of list)

This needs to be gone for good if we are to successfully save this article.  As long as it is being considered for deletion, the threat still remains.  Lets get rid of this for good by giving this page a makeover!  Quotes, references, verifiable information, and links are an excellent place to start.

So far, we only have one source, lets get some more to save it, as well as making the rest of the content more accurate!

This site is listed as one of the best Download sites for SC4 in other third party sites like  here:
    https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=678.0   (english)
    and here:
    http://foro.capitalsim.net/viewtopic.php?t=7721    (spanish)

and probably in many other SC4 related sites. I hope this can be considered as a reliable third party source 21.gif.

Wiki is a sad place...they list Death Metal bands that barely have one album and never been on tour...

but when Simtropolis is mentioned ...with its 250k membership base...they act like we don't exist...without simtropolis Wikipedia wouldn';t even have any articles on SC4......

so i just wish wiki would swallow their pride/or ignorance and just leave us alone....

Wikipedia is a great site, the best online encyclopedia there is IMO. But I understand where they are coming from with this.

Simtropolis Wiki had little to no sources whatsoever. Almost everything was unverifiable. If we are that fixed on having a wiki page, then we need to find the sources, no matter how abstract they are. Wiki strives to be as accurate as possible. Even though I don't agree in the deletion of the ST Wiki, I do understand fully where Wiki is coming from.

Now, that aside, I don't see the big deal.  Wikipedia has rules, and those rules need to be adhered to (whether they apply it to all articles is beside the point).  I recall plenty of exposes for ST in major publications.  All we need to do is have someone with a WP profile to go through the trouble to post some of these citations and show that this article is not full of garbage.  I see everyone complaining and saying "let's post something", but has anyone done it?  It seems so simple to do.  A few posters in this forum have even indicated they are WP posters...  Did I misread (I'm good at that...)?

BTW, I do not have a profile and have never posted to WP, plus I do not have the time to find the articles.  I'm sure someone else can!  4.gif

EDIT RE: DELETION... yeah, I figured it would be deleted, or at least my hand spanked.  No problem, my apologies.  I did not appreciate that... um... poster's comments.  My statement was true, though, LOL...  take care & best regards...

Indeed, once an AFD (articles for deletion) nomination has started it generally continues for five days, then an admin closes the nomination and makes a decision on if the article should be kept or deleted based on consensus established in the discussion. Sometimes, a discussion can be cut short if it is "obvious" that an article should be kept or deleted - or extended if more discussion on the nomination is needed.

Looking at the current comments on the Simtropolis nomination - it will probably stay open for the full five days.

Ummm? What is the reason for having a Wiki on ST?

I just dont see what the big deal here is. The people that care about SimCity 4 are here, there are links from other SimCity 4 site to here and people can find it quite easily if they follow the links. Not to mention the link from the Offical SimCity website from EA.

Wiki is an encyclepedia. A place where useful information should be posted. Seriously, what useful information can be given to an encyclepedia from ST or any other fansite for that matter? The only websites I can really see as useful and deserving of a Wiki are sites that have changed the face of the internet and revolutionized the internet. This is just another fansite and forum out of millions.

Im not trying to start a flaming war... Im just confused as to what the big fuss is over.

Here is the original article backed on my userpage. This copy will be here, so you can edit on this one, so it can grow and mature before reaching Wikipedia again. Furthermore, when I started this thread, it was a "give a good reason to keep a good article" not "grab your pitchforks and kill Wikipedian admins". Furthermore, I liked what Haljackey said:

Lets get rid of [the AfD] for good by giving [the Simtropolis] page a makeover! Quotes, references, verifiable information, and links are an excellent place to start. quote>

For now, the sun on the original Simtropolis page may set.

    But it will rise again.

It is my understanding after reading through this thread that the issue is NOT creating a Wiki on Simtropolis.  Rather, it is about Wikipedia deleting the article (entry, page, whatever) about Simtropolis.

With the plethora of information contained within our forums, I certainly don't see the need to create a Wiki within an already established SC4 Fan Site.

You are correct in your statement of not trying to start a flaming war -- THAT is something not needed or necessary concerning this or any other subject worth discussing.

    Regards,

    Vandy

    @Insane Child

I never said it was a stupid site.  But its just one of millions of sites, by this logic every website in the world deserves a Wiki.

SC4 is an old game.  A great game.  If you think logically you will realize it has lived extremely longer than it should have in the gaming world.  ST is a good site, but it hasnt change the face of the internet.  It hasnt changed the face of the world we look at.  It has been a host for just another game with a few die hard fans left.

Be honest, this site doesnt have 180,000 members active.  And probably about half of those registered nicknames are probably dupilcate accounts.  I am not denying the fact that ST is the largest SC4 Website and that is not a good site.  I am saying it is a dime a dozen in the scope of the world.  Yes you can be passionate about it but the voice of maybe 10,000 SC4 die hard fans that still frequent this site is nothing compared to 6 billion in the world.

ST was and is a great place for SC4.  But SC4 is a very insignificant part of the world.  So, what is the big deal for having a Wiki on ST?  A new Sim City is slated to come out.  Only the die hard fans will stay with SC4, I will be one of them.  But the world moves on from the past and Wikis on fansites are just silly.  No matter what fansite it is, unless it has been the first to use new technologies (something I am sure this site has never done).

This is a fansite.               Fansite = insignificant except to the few people that use it.

Okay, okay...now I'm starting to think differently. Sure this site is important to the people who play the game but, as jpumbley points out, I don't see 180,000 people on this site everyday, just 1713 at the most (and at that time I wasn't even a member). Yes, this is a great game, yes I absolutely enjoy playing it, however the fact is it lasted way longer than most games. I can't even find the PC version of Need for Speed Most Wanted and it's only been out 2 years, and this game's been out close to 5 years now?

Slowly but surely I can sense this game "dying off" as the new ieteration approaches--just call it fan's intuition. Sooner or later the last NAM will come out, the last STEX upload will appear, the last post will be typed, and the last STEX CD will be made. It's very sad, I know, and I hate to sound like a pesemist, but that's the truth. So let's just enjoy what we have left, and hope for the best. Who knows; I could be very well wrong! Perhaps the next-gen SC will come out and we can try to adapt this site to that game. Just a happy thought for now...

    regards,

    -Yoshiisland

I think there was plans for adapting to fit the change.  We were going to do that for SC5, whatever it might be.
