IGN today released Nintendo's first pictures of the Nintendo Revolution (working name N5)! It looks really small, it looks really sleek, but damn! It looks cool!!! I hope it will still play mini-discs but it looks as if it'll be playing normal discs. This looks really cool, what do you guys think of this?

I think this will put Nintendo back in the driving seat over Sony Playstation and X-box, although the X-box 360 is looking promising. I'll need to see some in game shots to fully decide...

That looks awsome, have they given any news on a release date?

They have only said 2006.

I really like the looks of it, and it actually looks like a futuristic console 1.gif If it is also as powerful as the PS3 and or 360, it can definatly put Nintendo back in the gaming ring (not that it was ever that far out of it)

I also saw another image that had different colored versions of the new system.

They haven't decided on the final color. It is black for now, but they may change it.

That also isn't the final design... according to IGN's transcript of the conference.

I think the greatest things so far about Revolution are the facts that 1) every component will be wireless and the thing is to be integrated wifi.  Also, they're stressing FREE online gaming to open up the market, and 2) you'll be able to download and play ANY NES, SNES, and N64 game, and GCN games and DVDs are fully compatible with the system.

Looking good!44.gif

Looks like there will be some stiff competition between the PS3, Xbox360, and Revolution. The 360 has the edge because it will be out in late 2005, whereas the PS3 and Rev won't be until 2006. If Xbox does not have a Halo game at launch, though, they may be hurting a little. Personally, I will stick to Sony and buy a PS3; I just can't give up Gran Turismo.

I think Bill Gates said that Halo 3 will be out around or before the launch of PS3.

It's the GamCube's successor. I watched the Nintendo E3 Press Confernce last night on GameSpot and it has Backward Compatibility. It is WiFi enabled and brings a whole new meaning to the phrase Backward Compatible. You can use the WiFi capabilities to dowload any NES, SNES or N64 game and it accepts GameCube discs. It may also take DVDs (Something I think Nintendo missed out on before).

The have also unveiled the GameBoy Micro. It has the best lit screen ever put on a handheld by Nintendo, it has snap-on covers so you can make it look nice and it'll play all current GBA games.

I heard some figures and Nintendo is one of the top two console makers, and is one of the top two games manufacturers. They didn't say which one of Sony or Microsoft was at the top, but I would say Microsoft...

I never bought a GameCube, even though I've always been loyal to Nintendo since the NES in the mid 80s.  Nintendo may suffer with the XBox 360 holiday release and the early 2006 release of the PS3, but the backwards compatibility is unheard of, even for the PS3 which can play PS1 and PS2 games, so I see the Revolution selling well anyway.  Nintendo isn't out to take over the market again, but it will definitely hold on to its niche market with its classic characters like Zelda and Mario.

I'm really excited now and do plan on buying the Revolution, not just for the new technology, but for the NES and SNES compatibilities.

Hey guys, the Revolution WILL have regualr sized discs, and WILL play DVDs. Here is a quote from Nintendo.com concerning the revolution:

Revolution will play all of your favorite Nintendo GameCube games. An innovative self-loading media bay will play both 12-centimeter optical discs used for the new system as well as Nintendo GameCube discs. You can also equip a small, self-contained attachment to play movies and other DVD content.

I definitely plan on buying the Revolution. Personally, I'm gonna wait til the Revolution comes out before I buy the new Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, because it's on the GameCube, and I'd just save the money rather than buying a GC for one game. The newest thing I have is the 64. Speaking of 64....

That downloadable backwards compatibility thing is a great idea. I wonder if it costs money to download the games? If not, I'd get every game for all the systems! Heck, I'd probably get them all even if it did cost money!

I assume each download will cost you, similar to a service like iTunes or Napster.  Nintendo just can't give away free games. 3.gif

Oh well. I should probably email Nintendo about that! That'd be cool. In fact, I'll go do that. I'll post back later.

I would expect that NES and SNES games would cost very little..... like $.50.  True, N64 might cost a bit more, and GCN games would have to be bought like normal (since you can play the disks in the system).  Still, it's a great thing!44.gif

And to answer The Mayor of Tempest Lake's question: the actual revolution of Revolution is NOT the backwards compatibility, but the yet-to-be-revealed controller.  They're keeping the actual secret VERY close as to keep Sony and Microsoft from a last minute copy.  (They mention that happening with the rumble pack and analog stick, which they quote as being first with).  I'm expecting something like a circular touch-pad instead of an analog stick, a secondary touch-screen akin to the DS built right into the controller, a docking station to recharge the controller's batteries, or all of the above!4.gif

I'm really looking forward to it.17.gif

Nintendo has already said the controller will NOT have a screen on it. So that much we know. I believe they also mentioned something about getting rid of the dpad. They said that it is something not new (the revolutionary part i'm talking about), but it is being used in a new way. 30.gif

    What could it be???????????? 41.gif

A 'Virtual Boy' controller?3.gif It would be cool to see it infront of you like you were there, but the VB was a flop...

I would hope something like more microphone use, I've never used one in 'Mario Party' or that 'Hey! You! Pikachu!' game, but it would be fun to use it in games like Pikmin! You could scream: RED ATTACK!!! BLUE RETREAT!!! I can just imagine my mum telling me to stop shouting at it!18.gif

I read in the newspaper about this. It says the Xbox 360 by Microsoft will be out in late 2005. This will be followed later in early 2006 by The Playstation 3 by Sony and the Nintendo Revolution of which experts say despite been later they could be twice as powerful as the Xbox 360.

As much as I wish the Revolution would be that powerful, it won't be. Nintendo has said many times they don't want to go in that direction. They want their console to be affordable to everyone, meaning, not as powerful. I'm sure it will still be very nice, and I'm definitely going to get it, but I seriously doubt it will be even equal to Sony or Microsoft. But even so, at the level graphics are now, the difference won't be that noticeable.

The new Revolution looks pretty cool, but it'll be difficult for Nintendo to reassert its former dominance over the console market.  I plan on buying the PS3; it's something like 250 times as powerful as PS2 and can play all of my games.  The backwards compatibility is a big issue because most console buyers aren't going to shell out for multiple systems (myself included), so they just buy the system that can play their favorite oldies but goodies (namely Grand Theft Auto).

If there's a chance that the Revolution is gonna be cheaper than the other two new consoles, I might get it. Otherwise, I'm gonna stick with Microsoft (if the Xbox360 supports backwards compatibility). I just can't give up the PGR series easily...

Sorry, but I'm solid Nintendo.  I find it funny that anyone can compare the portential backwards compatibility of an XBox to the potential backwards compatibility of a Nintendo.18.gif  Nintendo has like 15 years of games ahead of XBox.  Just my humble opinion, but if Nintendo is cheaper, smaller, has the whole history of games, is anyhwere close to the power of the others, and actually contains a true gaming revolution..... it WILL retake the throne, and prove that more power isn't always the answer.

Not even into game consoles, but I play them at friends houses quite often. Just this weekend I was talking to a friend about what Nintendo's next console would be since Sony introduced the PS3 and Microsoft the Xbox 2. Thanks for the news! 2.gif

Personally, graphics isn't a major factor in choosing a system.  I've always liked Nintendo's lineup since I've grown up with them my whole life.  I couldn't imagine leaving Mario and Zelda behind for anything else.  Besides, like EAGCE said, the graphics aren't that different from system-to-system like they used to be.
