LOL

Have you ever done any preview renders?  Your problem will be pretty obvious when you do.  1.gif

Look at the bottom of the screen, it will say "Grid = something" somewhere.  That is how big your grids are.  You want to zoom in until the grid number says something reasonable.  To scale down your building, there is a scale tool at the top of the screen.  It's a grey box with a white box (with red outline) in it.

well, maybe before you render you should add some more details.

Firstly get riud of that base, that gets made in LE. Next, you need some sort of entrance to the building, i suggest you completely get rid of that window texture on the bottom floor and add some shops, or something.

Also you need some nice(or even better; ugly) roof junk, there is plenty available on the stex if you feel up to making your own.

It looks like a good building, but a bit more attention to details will make better.

Your problem is that you modeled the building waaaaaaaaay too big.  I can't tell exactly how big, but your building might be thousands of meters tall, when it should not be that tall.

Can you post what the preview render looks like?

nice start! make sure you model the windows, dont use a texture. also add some roof junk and work on the textures in general. and get rid of that base, knowing you, you could make somthing better in LE.

Edit: im glad your starting to BAT though!

lol!!! could you show the preview render? i can know nothing with those pictures. if you cant show it, because it stops render or else i'm sure you got a fatal mistake.....

AND ONE PROBLEM I'VE NOTICED!!!! i think your BAT is reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaly big (or too small maybe)..... do u use terrible-simcity-measurement rule when you make it (i use it)? or, you make it without planning its measurement? i think, one  tile in the last picture is 16x16 meters (smallest  tile is 1mx1m), right? so, how big is your BAT?

i'm sure you cannot render it properly because of wrong scale......

if you still dont fix those problems..... i think you couldnt render that BAT.

what's the windows problem? nightlight? night windows? random script? or what?

Can you do a preview render or does that get stuck too?

Have you actually re-sized it? I'm pretty sure your problem is simply that it is far to big, if you fix that you will probably be able to do a preview render, so people can offer some feedback.

I still wouldn't say it is finished, as there is things you can tweak so it looks better, from what i can see.

You should zoom in so that each grid = 1 meter. Unless you want your building to be a 19x17 in the game.

Once you get the scale issue taken care of, make a preview render, and show us it, and then we can comment on the building itself.

i'll render for you but i think you could do a little more work. first of all, show a preview render, so we know what needs fixing. perspective shots in GMAX are awful.

ok, 1st of all you need to do this. Go to Customize, select Grid and Snap Settings, go to Home Grid Tab. Set Grid Spacing to 1.0 and Major Lines = 16.0 Leave everything else as default. This will ensure you have Maxis style scaling correct. Another thing, Residential floors can be anywhere from 3-4 units in height. Penthouse levels are usually 4 or 4.5 units in height. Commercial floor height is usually 4-5 units in height with major mall store shop levels at 5-6 in height.

    Hope this helps

Also. a 1x1 tile in Maxis is 16x16 in gmax using the above grid settings. This makes it easier for you to estimate what kind of building you want. For instance if you want a office building that is say 2x3 Maxis Lot it will fill a 32x48 dimension in gmax.

Interesting, but it looks awfuly dark for simcity... I don't know what the problem is there, though.

For your preview, can you (using the scroll button on the mouse) zoom in until it says 1:1 in the render preview window?

Also, Error 6 can be a system error, in fact it can be a whole massive variaty of errors because most of the rendering stuff that can crashes is going on when error 6 can be called.

Make sure you get the scale right... That first building should render then... You were trying to render something almost a quarter the size of a small city tile.

If you want the building to have jobs, copy the file you exported from gmax and call it V2 or CO$$$ or something, then, in the plugin manager give it the business attributes you want it to have. When you create the .zip, just bundle the residential and commercial versions together and release them together. If you consider tackling something like the Woolworth Building in the future, make sure you take your time and work from tonnes of photographs. There are so many beautiful features, and it would be a shame to overlook them. I think in general, take some more time on what you're working on! If you have ideas, sketch them out first and think about what can go where (and why you might put something there). You'll find you can really get a great handle on projects this way.

I would work on the lot of Creaky Condos a little more before you release it. Buildings like this almost always have heaps of rubbish and overflowing trash bins, cars in the parking lot, etc... Also, it could really use some roof junk, but you're probably pretty far beyond that stage now, since it's been exported. In the future, keep in mind things like satellite dishes, antenna's, HVAC, tubes, exhaust fans, those periscope looking things, etc... On higher wealth buildings you can put in roof gardens and swimming pools, etc... Just remember to slow it down and pay attention to detail! You'll do well.
