Welcome to Simtropolis! First of all, check your demand. If your demand isn't high enough, skyscrapers won't come. High office blocks need to have smart, healthy sims, so make sure you have plenty of hospitals and schools. I hope this has helped 4.gif

I have been having this same problem in one of my cities. The pop. is pushing 400k, and while I can easily acquire residential towers, commerce only builds malls and mid-sized office buildings (despite the 150k commercial jobs in the city)

    Here are my tips:

    1. Check Demand

    2. Add more fire stations and police stations

    3. Increase your education and hospital ratings, build more of them

    4. Zone High Density in high demand areas

    5. Add parks and recreation

    6. More residence

    7. Decrease pollutions

    8. Add new transit networks for faster and more effecient ways to get into your downtown section of the city.

    9. Add landmarks and recreation (different from number 5)

    10. Think smart

    Hello!

Yeah...Curtis78 gave some really good tips. I'd pay really close attention to #'s 3, 5, 6, and 8. If there is a large demand for high-wealth commercial offices, but they aren't building, you might need more high-wealth Sims in the area (or next door), which means more schools and bigger hospitals...and an airport, too. Also, commerce loves traffic, so having a large traffic flow throughout your commercial area will help it develop. If you need to, destroy some of the other high-wealth commerce in your city to force your Sims to go into the towers. One more thing...you'll need regional support to keep that CBD going and growing, so if you haven't already, start building lots of residential neighborhoods in adjacent cities to help feed it. That will really help out your cause.

    Hope I've helped a bit...

Yeah I have the same problem and I did all those things posted here like building parks, landmarks, and education, hospitals, and residental neighboorhoods, now I just have all High tech Industry in my neighbor cities, pollution is really low, but my demand for C$ is skyrocketing and the rest are at negative, and my taxes are at 9.% but wont develop

I read somewhere that heavy traffic NOISE helps co$$$ develop more efficiently, but I'm not sure on its accuracy.

After you download your STEX item, you'll need to transfer the files to your plug-ins folder.

    My Documents -> SimCity 4 -> Plug-ins

I don't use much plug-ins, but when I do download stuff from STEX I save them in a dedicated STEX folder on my desktop.  Then I copy and paste the files into my plug-ins folder.  That way you can remove the files from the plug-ins folder whenever you want and still have the original download.

If you're planning on getting a lot of stuff from the STEX, try and keep your plug-ins folder as organized as possible.  It'll save you headaches later on.  I create subfolders within the plug-ins folder for each item I use.  That way it's easy to find all the files belonging to a certain item.  Oh, and be sure to read any "readme" files that come along with your download.

    Hey,

I have a fix for this problem.

Ok, your city of a certain population and education level will have a demand for a certain number of CO$$$ jobs.

Now say you have tons of commercial zones all over the city.  Your CO$$$ companies will fill them evenly with lower buildings.  Now imagine if you dezoned all your commercial space except for a few blocks.  Your city will still demand a certain number of CO$$$ jobs, but now it can only fulfill that demand within a small space.  This will result in larger skyscrapers.

Once you move the files into the plugin folder they are in effect moved into the game.  In the plugin folder = in the game.

Now it's just a matter of finding that item in the game menu.  Some might be in the landmarks menu, some might be in the gifts menu, etc.  It really depends on how the lot/mod was made.  The readme file should have info on where you can find them in the game.

Well, just slow down. Do you mean you're region population is 120,000 or a city with 120,000. If you're region only has 120,000 you have no hope of getting proper skyscrapers for a while (At the least 200,000) Once you get a steady regional growth then you should see skyscrapers starting to grow. Remember to keep health and all that other stuff at a good level or else it will become even harder to grow skyscrapers

My city of ~380K has a few skyscrapers but most of the tallest ones are really residential....my commerce is kind of decentralized.

I could turn one of my mini-CBDs into a high-tech industrial complex or something. My residential demand is too unstable for more high-wealth high-rises and I don't want any more of those ugly brown apartment blocks that are usually your city's first mid-rise.

Population doesn't affect skyscraper developments. To have them grow, add a bunch of schools, hospitals, police stations, fire stations, parks, landmarks, set taxes appropiatly, and have all buildings powered and watered.

If you need any program to unrar files I'd reccomend using WinRAR, I use this program and it's free (I belive its free :$). Also if you haven't done so already, try searching NDEX towers in the Stex, NDEX has a great collection of commercial towers that work real well for creating realistic downtown districts and they provide lots of CO$$ and CO$$$ Jobs.
