Holy Amazing, Kyle! I love the seaport! It looks very realistic. Too bad about the spills. Hopefully they can control it. Can't wait for part 2!

It's about time, eh? 3.gif Here are replies, starting from the end of page 14.

bbfan02: Thanks!  I should've made my own custom-sized region, though.

The Big Z: Realism is what I'll always emphasize the most throughout this CJ.  Glad you liked the Jackson Park overviews as well.  Thank you for commenting!

dfnva: Thank you for starting another page!  As for the highways, yes they are pretty limited in the older parts of the region, built when I didn't have as much of a thing for realism as I do now.  However, there are quite a few avenues linking many cities to each other, so traffic isn't bottlenecked on the major routes.  Regarding the discussion of the stores, I really like when a new store with a more unique look than the cookie-cutter design opens up.  Unfortunately, stores like that tend to be located mostly in large metropolitan cities like Los Angeles. 22.gif

seemurray2: Thank you for commenting, Chris!  I'm glad you liked JP - I think it's one of my best cities yet.  That particular phrase probably will be repeated a few more times, though. 3.gif The night shots do look quite good, better than the effects I used on Remington Bay's pictures!  I used too much of the "Enhance Colors" option, I think.

Mike the Mayor: Thanks!  Glad you liked the trees, too.  Custom ones are just like custom buildings - they liven up an area very well.  I plan on making a line of suburban towns north of Jackson Park, so you can expect to see more updates like the one you saw in the future.

suplado!: Thank you!  Pretty soon all that empty land will all be developed, at least by the end of the year I hope! 2.gif

PhilsCafe: Hello Phil, I like that baseball stadium quite a bit too.  If it were bigger, I could see it being a major league stadium, but it's basically a minor league one.  Thanks for the comment!

gabry85: Thanks!  I don't think I will, but if I did want to, I wouldn't be able to - the region ends at the last island! 2.gif

edmonton_stinks: Thank you for commenting.  And congrats on 1000 posts!

Hester: You'll be seeing a lot of development in just a few months, don't you worry!

bbfan02 (x2): Thanks for your input, and I can't wait to see your port.

Schulmanator: Not if it has to do with SC4.  Besides, you (sorta) teased me. 3.gif Thank you for voting!

Godzillaman: Like me at Super Smash Brothers. 3.gif

The Big Z (x2): Thanks for aghain commenting!  You really owe it to yourself to download that excellent port back by soulstealer on the STEX. 4.gif

waway625: Yes, it is because of those city tiles not having been developmed yet.  As I have said to others, you'll begin to see lots of development take place there very soon.  Hopefully the whole region will be fully complete by the end of the year, and that way I can possibly start a brand new region (and CJ) in 2009.  Thanks for the vote, I agree about your comment on the airports.  It seems like everyone is updating with them nowadays!

Great port. Sorry that I missed it, but it's pretty amazing! It's realistic, but not depressing. You've hit it right on!

Well, in the end, I did happen to take the photos necessary for a mosaic, so you'll be getting one right now!  As a bonus, I made a second one and will add it with this update.  Here they are, enjoy! 9.gif

Now those are seaport shots! <-- I'm referring to both the pictures on this page and on the previous one.

I don't know if you just started making seaport candy but if you did, I gotta hand it to you; you did your research my friend.

Amazing work, Kyle. The warehouses you chose are perfect for the port. The port layout is efficient and it looks fantastic! Seriously one of the best ports I've ever seen!

As for starting the pages, it must be lucky timing!

jacqulina: Thanks, Jacky!  I'm glad that you liked it! 4.gif

edmonton_stinks: Better late than never, they always say. 2.gif I'm pleased about your feelings of the port,  Generally these types of areas are pretty ugly, but with SC4, that's not the case.  Thank you for commenting!

JasonB52: Hey Jason!  I just visited yours, and it looks like you've taken some pages from my book.  It looks pretty good, I'm glad that I gave you some inspiration.  Thanks for the comment!

Deever: Don't you remember the Remington Bay Port?  I know it was a t the beginning of the year when I showed it but that was basically my first 'realistic' port.  Heh heh, no I really didn't do any research, per se, but I did gain a little inspiration from other CJers and some RL pics alike.  Thank you for commenting! 9.gif

Twenty20: Thanks!  I try to have a balance of both which each series.

jacqulina (x2): Thank you once again!  Although there's no more of the actual port left to show, there are still industrial blocks in the surrounding areas as well as residential apartments.

zelgadis: How many times must I repeat this?!? 3.gif Those port lots are by Soulstealer.  But anyway, thanks for the comment. 1.gif

porter66083: Thanks much, Jacob!  I could've said the same when Pine Grove still existed... now that was one heck of a city.  Then again, WP is (or was) also. 3.gif

gabry85: Thank you!  I hope you'll feel the same after Part 2.

The Big Z: If it weren't for the great people who make all of this awesome stuff, or ports (and everything else) would look pretty bland.  Even so, some people manage to make really good-looking Maxis-only areas.  Glad you like the port, I plan to recreate one in Auburn Bay, too.  Thanks for the comment, Zach!

dfnva: Thank you, Dan.  Hehe, yes that's probably true. 18.gif

edmonton_stinks (x2): Thank you for again making a comment!  More amazingness to follow soon.

Schulmanator: What diet? 41.gif They are non-existent on ST.  No wonder I always get hungry after visiting Schulmania! 3.gif Thanks for commenting, Bruce!

Here is the teaser for Part 2.  Just another industrial area, but with some commercial dotted in. 2.gif

The full-fledged update is coming either tomorrow (Saturday) or Sunday.

Wow, so much realism in a so small area! This puts all default SC industrial areas to shame for good! Can't wait to see more of it! 4.gif

I completely agree, don't know why but they just do lol.

Great updates my friend, I love the port and the industrial pictures look very realistic too. The traffic also really adds to the pictures. Great work all round!

zelgadis: I'd say the latter. 3.gif

ilikehotdogsalot: No problem.  I wouldn't do anything less for a consistent commenter of Auburn Valley. 2.gif I'm glad you liked the mosaics!  About the industrial areas, they are really fun to work with.  I've said it before, and I'll say it again: It seems easier to get a building that you want to see grow in industrial zones than residential/commercial ones.  Less time waiting for something different to grow, more time working on another area. 9.gif Thank you for commenting, Dan!

gabry85: Thanks!  I'm glad you feel that way, because I really try hard to have a nice variety in industrial areas, too.  Like residential suburbs, repetition isn't so bad with industry - unless it's Maxis.  Since there weren't many vanilla industries made for the game, Maxis-only areas do look blander than oatmeal. 3.gif

bbfan02: Thank you, Kyle.  Glad you liked it!

edmonton_stinks: Yep.  It then turns into a strip low-wealth residential and commercial buildings, but that'll come later. 2.gif Thanks for the comment!

Mike the Mayor: Thanks, Mike!  I am happy that you liked the port.  I tried working on another one in the largest city in the region (Auburn Bay) nut for some reason the industrial zones don't grow very fast.  Maybe it's because the city was/is built on a large tile, who knows.  Anyway, the high (and realistic) levels of traffic are courtesy of the NAM.  I really like it! 10.gif

    dbpb2qt7.jpg

While this area isn't located on the same piece of land as the actual port, it's still considered to be in the same area.  It's really no different from the developments of the port - factories, warehouses, and railroads all can easily be found in the area - but retail stores and residentials dot the landscape, full of trees.  In today's update, the primary focus will be on the gritty sides, but good portions of the mentioned developments will also get some face time.

To start off Part 2, here is a picture of the area closest to the port.  Notice the billboards the line the roads, a result of the high concentrations of traffic this area gets daily.

A line of residential apartments lies across from a huge industrial block.

A police station farther down the avenue.

    Busy busy!

I love most of that. The only thing is that Dusktrooper condo is kind of oddly placed, amidst the industrial buildings and low wealth shops and such. The rest of it is great! I think if that was a real life area it would be way more depressing but the colours in SC4 are too pronounced.
