I figured that I'd might as well take a break from my normal CJ themes (downtowns and industrials) and have a nature/transportation update.  Don't expect to see this next time, because I will be back to showcasing downtowns. 3.gif

Replies are coming very, very soon! 2.gif

Weller Pass is basically just that: a pass.  But many scenic views await the traveler who looks out their car window.  Lush with oak and pine trees, many animals thrive in the mountains.  AH-1 runs through the area, and it is a major link to the rest of the region.  In fact, a large new city has been planned just south of WP, set to begin development within the next year.

Let's see: I spy a Toyota Tacoma, a Chevrolet Camaro, a Hummer H2, and a Nissan Maxima.  Do you? 3.gif

Hmm... this can't turn out good.

A ranger station and a windmill are the only two structures (besides the highway) in Weller Pass.

Great highway layout. I like how they snake and slope, I also like the windmills on the side of the highway.

Ded: Thanks for visiting AV!  I'm glad that you liked it.
edmonton_stinks: Haha, yes it has been quite a while.  Glad you liked everything, yes those lofts really look great just about anywhere.  The teaser pic wasn't of a very good quality so I decided to brighten it up a little, it turned out pretty good.
suplado!: Thanks!  Yup those car collisions are pretty funny sometimes, people just keep driving into the crash.  The mall took up too much space for me, and adding the residential towers seemed more practical.
bbfan02: Thank you!  Traffic accidents are featured quite often in Auburn Valley because the traffic is pretty bad just about everywhere you go.
zelgadis: Thanks much for visiting, I hope you like what is to come next!
Schulmanator: Hey there!  Well everyone will just have to find somewhere else to shop... there's plenty of retail stores in Covina already. 3.gif
BlondeTwiggy: Hello Twiggy!  Thank you for visiting, I'm glad that you liked my work!  The mall had to go, it didn't even provide any jobs.  Not good for the city. 2.gif
penguin007: Thank you for the comment!
bbfan02 (x2): Glad you liked the industrial!  More of that is coming very soon.
penguin007 (x2): Thanks again for your comment!  Yeah I figured in would be good to try and edit the last two, instead of having just one shot.
Schulmanator (x2): Heh heh!  A sweet teaser indeed! 17.gif
suplado! (x2): More of tis port will be coming soon, don't you worry!
zelgadis (x2): Thanks!  Darkness rules! 9.gif
    KingTitan:
Thank you for the comment!  The last pic is an edited one, I tried to made the areas that weren't lit up really dark, so that the lights would really stand out.  Could've turned out a little better, I think. 1.gif
The_Hutt: Thanks, I used some custom trees that blended in well with the standard Maxis fare.
aleking: Hey AK!  It reminds me of them too, whenever we visit my grandma at the coast (California) we always have to travel through a mountain pass that separates the coast form the Central Valley, where I live.
bbfan02 (x3): Thanks again!  I think this is my first transportation map, not too much to show yet on the map, though. 20.gif
suplado! (x3): The trees fit in between the Maxis ones quite well, there were many gaps that needed to be filled in!  This highway is pretty heavily traveled, but soon it will connect a very large city to the rest of the region!
penguin007 (x3): Thanks!  Well there are many downtowns in AV, but the one I'm going to be showing happens to be located closest to the right side of the picture.
Mike the Mayor: Thank you for commenting!  Did you mean 'downtowns?' 3.gif
    salut221:
Thank you, come again!  The next region shot won't be for a while, so enjoy this one while you can!

Wow, simply beautiful work with Photoshopping the mountain! Sort of like a combination of the Arizona desert and a Kentucky mountain. 9.gif

Oh, I almost forgot...  Have you been to the URSC lately?  There've been a few changes.  9.gif

zelgadis: Heh heh, I guess it does! 3.gif  I visited the site a couple days ago, and I noticed to redesign.

edmonton_stinks: I'm a sort of a car freak... so don't worry if you can't find all of them! 3.gif There's no need to keep your eyes peeled any longer.

Remington Bay is a lot like Auburn Bay, its neighbor to the west.  It has a large downtown, many parks, a developing mass transit system, and of course, a port.  There are a few differences, however.  For example, the industrial population in RB is significantly smaller than that of Auburn Bay, and it loses its presence mostly to the impressive downtown that towers over the city.  Despite the setbacks, the demand for industrial development has been making the need for expansion of the port even greater.  But first, let's view the area pre-expansion.

Built on an artificial island, the Remington Bay Port (RBP) houses several large warehouses and factories.  Located in  the southwestern corner of the city, access is relatively easy.

    remingtonbayjan30711196da5.jpg

The train yard seen here is mainly used for container storage.

    remingtonbayjan22711196kf5.jpg

    This medium-sized factory produces calenders.

    remingtonbayjan25711196cc9.jpg

The northern tip of the island, where expansion took place outward.

    remingtonbayfeb37111960re1.jpg

This mosaic features a good majority of the island's/port's factories and structures.

    rbpm1bxn5.jpg

    rbpm1csc0.jpg

Sorry about the quality of the pics, they are really bad.  I have a question about that, for anyone who can give a good answer.  When converting pictures to the JPEG format, how do you avoid the quality loss that takes place in the transition?  Thanks in advance.

EDIT: I figured it out, so I updated all of the pictures in this update.

Next update will feature the development that has taken place in the port's expansion.

    Thanks for visiting Auburn Valley!

Absolutely stunning, ky! I thought I was looking at a real picture when I glanced at those highway shots. I'm very happy to see that you've tried to incorporate highways through treed and countryish areas because that's one of the more realistic things I have seen in a city journal that not very many people do. It reminds me of the sights I see like when I am heading down to Tennessee on my way to Florida because of the hills and the forests. Looks like it would be a nice but hilly drive. 4.gif

Very nice! And it does indeed look very similar to the many artificial islands I've seen in Japan. And you've done a good job of making it look nice and gritty, but not so gritty that it seems decrepit. Great work. 9.gif

Those Weller Pass pictures remind me of driving through the mountains on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, very picturesque, complete with tunnels, the occasional wind turbin, and even the traffic jams (caused by endless construction and an inhumanely slow 55mph speed limit) that are also seen on there.

Sorry for the double post, but I went backward to look at more of your cj and was impressed at your suburban development and industrial areas. Also, wondering why the mall was demolished... maybe like in a lot of towns as the mall dies (due to demographics or competing retail business), redevelopments occur.

KYLE!!! Your Weller Pass update looked great, sharp, stunning, and all of em' complementing words in the book! One of your best updates, in my humble opinion.

Your port update ain't too bad either. You have a good eye for making industrial areas look great.
