Thankfully an honest independent site/mag appraisal at last. That moronic GFW "article" might as well have been written by EA themselves. It's one thing to tout this title's features, plusses, and innovations, but it's another altogether to utterly ignore the vast changes and simplifications of what used to be a deep complex sim into basically a toy game.

Ah-ha! This clears up everything! Wealth + Knowledge = Regular cities. Thus, Creativity is directly linked to stupidity such as building gingerbread houses! It all makes sense now!

Also, who here wants to place the Atomic Test Site near the fantasy buildings? 9.gif Come on, you all know you do... 3.gif

Oops, and here I thought it was something else. Video certainly helps...

I can see it now, suddenly the city is attacked by a 50ft monster who has a sweet tooth !

There go the candy cane street lights, mmmmm, oh no he's eating the chocolate factory now, nummy, what's next.....

He's spotted the rows of gingerbread houses, can nothing stop his hunger for everything the city is made of ?

Look coming down the street in a tooth shaped car it's... TA-DA ! DENTAL MAN ! -

"Remember that too much sweets can be bad for you...."

Does anyone else think this picture has a very nice Fritz Lang/ Metropolis feel to it? (Except for the circus.)17.gif

I am so relieved!

It's not SimCity 5! It's not SimCity 5! Finally, I can stop stressing about the death of my beloved series. And I don't have to post anything more on the TM forums! Yippee!!!!

The bad news: I still have to wait 3+ more years for the next SimCity.

This may not be SimCity 5, schm0, but I think this will be the direction of the rest of the SimCities in the future. Of course, this is me being a pessimist, so...

Anyway. Reading this and seeing the pictures (still waiting for the video to fully load) I am relieved (as well). I think this actually does look like a good game, in its own right. I think this looks like a TERRIBLE SimCity, yes, but a good game.

I don't know about you all, but this pic gives me much joy

I hope there are more buildings with tons of ads on them!!4.gif

Hmmm I like IGN finally gave the game some critisim. And the game looks worst to me as a Sim City sucessor but might be a spin-off from the regular game (since EA loves spinoffs that go in a billion directions.)

NO NO NO. I don't want Sim City to head into this direction. I play Sim City because I am an urban planner, and that's how cities are planned, through zoning. You don't build cities on obedience and some weird title. I am actually not happy about this. Yes it seems that the graphics have improved, but the way the game will be played is completely not acceptable. I might buy the game to pass the time, but I will continue to play SC4.

As Bart Simpson would say, "EA can eat my shorts!"

I won't buy anything in this direction! I'll wait for the next real SimCity or if it don't come oh well. I might add that I will be less inclined to pick up EA games in the future...

Denial. Don't worry, it's the first stage.

But by the way, convincing yourself that SCS isn't SC5 won't make it any truer. EA said they wanted to name it SC5, but decided on a more unique approach to the name.

That may be true, but it at least opens up the (tiny) possibility that there might be a sim city 5 game.

June 15, 2007 - If you want an uproar, tell SimCity fans that their most cherished series isn't getting the sequel that they expected. When the first details and pictures crept out from Electronic Arts that SimCity would be heading in a new direction and that it would be developed by Tilted Mill and not Maxis, the community's collective head exploded and the Tilted Mill forums were splattered with the angry brain matter

I love how much of an impact Simtropolis makes. When it hits IGN, you know you've accomplished something 9.gif

i was waiting for IGN to write an article about this game.  based on what i've read, the game is definitely taking a turn in a direction i'm not interested.  "societal energies"?  no thanks.

Candy cane street lights?!??quote>

that's exactly what i was thinking when i read that.  28.gif

Societal engergies????? What on Earth has EA been drinking/ingesting/inhaling? Games like City Life, CivCity:Rome and Tycoon City: NY have tried to go down the "Societal energies" track and they all have failed. Sim City 4 only ever dealt with one thing i.e. Building Cities and growing them and, funny thing, SC4 is still one of the most popular games going. Wonder why?

Good luck to EA with Societies, but I will stick with SC4. I doubt I would buy it when it is released. I want to to be a city builder not a nursemaid for a bunch of neurotics.

Now excuse me, I must go adjust the kharmic resonances and societal tinctures in a neighbouring region's Obedience Aura.

Just going by this article, will somebody PLEASE tell me the difference between this and City Life?

Here are the similarities:

-Societal energies, or cultures...

-Three types of buildings: Home, Work, and Venues/Leisure

-Set color palettes for each society/culture.

-Re-education centers

-Buildings don't upgrade

...What next? Amazingly wide sidewalks?

I think City Life is a nice game, but it's not SimCity.. and neither is this. I'll give it a chance, sure, but I hate it having the SimCity name.

This game looks like something one would buy at Toys R' Ustm for children ages 3 and up! The strategy of this game is asinine! What SC4 gamer is going to enjoy a game WITHOUT zoning and with, and I quote, "societal energies"? What ever happen to strategic gaming for people older than five? I think Mattel
