Those are pics of Caesar IV.  A different game.  The second game made by Tilted Mill.

I like the 3D in it, but the roads are killing me! The turns are complete right angles! Not the interstections, the turns, man.

@ Gridlock: It stand for a lot TM has proven they can make some great looking stuff. The problem though - is with EA. I think their CEOs are over at the TM office leaning over everybody's shoulder and saying stupid stuff like, "Wouldn't it be great if there were gingerbread houses and mountains made out of candy? Put that in there, kids will love it"

By the way, what the heck is up with all the tree houses??? The screenshots are looking better, but some of the stuff we're seeing is just plain dumb.

What's there to even like? Any "good" ideas or concepts have been ruined. It's a shame that the little potential the game had has been ruined.

This looks great. quote>

This does not.quote>

Because comparing developing shots and shots taken eons after a release makes so much sense!

Are you just completely incapable of following simple instructions? Why not post that crud in 'Bash topic 647'?

I'm not gonna lie. It looks good.

And even if they do end up putting stuff like gingerbread houses and Willy Wonka factories in the final game, I highly doubt anyone's going to stick a gun to your head and force you to use them.

Caeser IV looks like it was made with love, SCS looks like it was made from hasty decisions, conflicting art direction, and probably has a studio filled with extremely frustrated 3D artists. I feel sorry for the guys working on this game, I bet there is tuns of behind-the-scenes drama and frustration all boiling down on them from EA trying to make another 'Sims' to SC fans freaking out on the forums. If I was TM I would pull out, let EA handle it. Cover your losses and develop something TM loves, their signature build-an-empire-city game.

I've got a gut feeling that we are forced to use stupid buildings in our cities. Some stupid statue to increase desirability or plopping down some silly building because the population limit is higher.....

Well, it looks like the game would play smoothly for me, with the short view distance ( everything's so foggy, even in ancient Rome), low poly buildings, no HDR, No bloom , bump-mapping only??, DX9, and low shadow filtering.

Of course, how many Sims players are running on dual core processor and high-end video card machines? Not only does the game have to cater to such a large group of potential buyers, it also has to cater to their probable machine configurations to a fair extent.

the fact that you can actually get skyline views of your city is pretty awesome, i've always wanted to do that to my sc4 cities. The 3d is also pretty cool.

Even though SimCity Societies looks decent, and that I could plop all my skyscrapers, my dream city idea is completely flawed since the transit model was ruined. I want my two-way roads, my single-track railroad, my rural highways, my insane intersections, and my flyover exchange!

kudos to the creator of this thread. a bit of positivity never did anyone any harm.

For me, the silver lining is that it looks like it's going to be totally different to SC4. I love SC4. I don't want it to become obsolete. SCS and SC4 can coexist in peaceful harmony on my computer (well, if they bother doing a mac version, of course), giving me different gaming experiences dependent on my mood. Hungover? SCS, bit of light entertainment with treehouses to pacify my inner child. Geeky? Create scale reproduction of my home town on SC4.

We're not going to have to hand over our copies of SC4 in order to get SCS. They are not going to send out some patch that deletes SC4 from our computers whether we buy SCS or not. It's as much of a waste of

Come to think of it, i'm actually very glad that they are making sc societies, because if they mess it up, which is quite possible, it wont be SC5 thats messed up. Only good can come of this i believe. Bring on SC5, the true simcity

As much as I dislike this game, since this thread is devoted to the more positive aspects, I'd have to say the idea of "societies" is interesting and needed. I'm still boycotting the game however.

The idea of implementing a societal element probably is due for SimCity, but they've gone about it the wrong way.

I get the feeling, though, that there was a last minute change of direction. As in very last minute (which would explain why the screenshots look so raw.

I do like the yellow brick roads though, they look nice. I wouldn't mind a ped mall with tiles like that, actually.

Its funny how they say that they are looking to make it better for the younger generation. I'm 15 and I hate what I've seen so far in SCS. There is nothing good in it. I want SimCity, not a game where a 3 year old can easily build a city...

I mean come on, tree and gingerbread houses? Whats next, lollypop farms? Very realistic!

Oh man, my worries are coming true... I just read an article on IGN and they said that there will be fairy castles and candy cane street lights. Even more realistic!!!30.gif

Heres the article: http://pc.ign.com/articles/797/797131p2.html

Here's my two cents:

I like the scrolling over the city as seen in the video.

I like the combination of various societies within one city or region.

I like the idea that different mentalities form different structures.

I like the zoom function.

I dislike a whole bunch of other stuff, but seriously guys that is not what this post is about.

I think that SCS has the right idea by introducing these new social aspects that will no doubt change the face of simcity (at least Tilted Mill's rendition).  When I first saw the game and saw what it was about, sure I was bummed too.  However, we have to come to the realization that the man who made these games was on a roll (Will Wright).  He took what he had made in previous games and added on to it.  Unfortunately, to my understanding, he is busy creating Spore, a game that was at one point, doomed to failure.  However, that is beside the point.  The point is that he is busy with Spore and that other Sims expansion game which is currently in the works.  I don't think he could possibly give this game the attention that it deserves at this time.  SCS should be seen as a offshoot of Simcity.  I think people do the admins of this site, Tilted Mill, and other Simcity enthusiasts a major disservice when they try and compare SCS to the rest of the franchise.  Sure the game looks terrible from the previews and lacks pretty much everything fundimental to the game.  However, we must keep in mind that nobody can make Simcity like Will Wright can.  There is no need to even bother.   Zoning, traffic and networks, were the reason why I loved SC4RH so much but they do not exist in SCS.  To me, SCS exists more as a minigame and should be judged as such.  I don't know why Tilted mill didn't just create their own game like Monte Cristo, the creators of city life.  However, we have to settle with the fact that it is what it is and hopefully, maybe a couple years down the road, after we find that SCS sold 10,000 copies nationwide, we may be safe to expect an authentic SC5.  SCS isn't all garbage and it has some things in it that none of the SC games cared to really go into.  In SCS, your Sims actually come to life and have notions of obedience and happiness.  I don't think that the mayor ratings were good enough.  Adding venues that the sims can actually attend and gain happiness is a breakthrough.  If SC5 could use that idea, it would excel the franchise leaps and bounds.  Bottom line is that because SCS is not a city simulator and because the focus is not on the structure of the city itself, SCS misses the mark that all SC games have attained.  However, SCS might look like a tasty snack once it hits the bargain bin.

Sim City 4 is more of an economics game. You are not well connected with your citizens in Sim City 4 you are far from the street and do not really know how your citizens lives are. Sim City 4 citizens do not have any impact on your city. In real life the citizens shape the city so much more than the economic developers or individual mayor, whether the citizens feel depressed and materialistic or happy and religious. What I think is good about SimCity Societies is the more political, psychological and sociological gameplay so you are as the title says running a full society rather then just the simulated city building or the 100% economic side that simcity 4 takes. Sim City 4 is unrealistic in that its development does not factor sociological concepts well, for example: Labour disputes, Mass political protests, looting, rampant crime, vandalism etc. All these sociological factors have such an impact on your society and city. I don't know if they'll be in the game but I think they should be.

I don't like any social science , however I think the game is worth a shot.

^ In short, SC4 lacks the way sims (people) should naturally behave as independent individuals and as a whole society. I agree.

Developers have yet to combine the two fields aesthetically.
