I'd be up for helping out with such a project in the brainstorming and balancing parts, since those are about the only areas I would have much useful ability or experience in.  At the very least, SC4 will probably be entertaining us until something better comes along.  That may be CL2 or SCS once both are possibly modded to heck and back like SC4, maybe neither.

I think a project like this is just what the community needs to get itself back on its feet and take our minds off of this SCS debacle until we can make a fair judgment on it.

This is exactly the type of thing I would be willing to donate money for.  I don't know enough about the files currently available to give any help about what can be included but I'd be willing to donate any testing time/resources needed to make sure it all works correctly.

UCEP (user created expansion pack) have been successful before. I play a game with one installed and it is quite well done

Yeah I agree good idea for auto installer of all best mods and buildings etc because I myself been away at uni for 2years and didn't keep up with all new content like i did with sc2000 and sc3000 when i was younger, so be great just have 1 disc with all best stuff and installs it for you  as i have to admit to overwhleming to find the stuff plus trying build a new region at the moment lol

I say go for it! plus not really fair to say it make scs look ordinary sc4 was pretty bland until all new content and addon takes a while for new content to arrive, new one going to be fully moddable so like keep up with that new simcity when its out to.

I already have a vast amount of custom content. However, not everyone does and I would support this I think it's a fantastic idea.

To be very honest I'm sticking with SC4, the amount of talented people out there that BAT and MOD is amazing and the work just gets better and better. I will be trying Cities Unlimited to see what it's like but to me SC4 is still an ongoing thing and will continue to develop and that will be solely due to the work the fans have done.

My situation is a good example of why this idea is excellent! I just re-formatted my hard drive and I am in the middle(probably like 1/4th) of the way to getting my plugin folder back to the way it was. I didn't just simply replace the plugin folder with the backup copy because I wanted to start fresh and install some new mods like NAMJune2007 and those canal thingies and stuff I always wanted to try. I was always unsure of what I had installed and what I didn't when it came to the essencials and prop packs etc. I been working on my plugins folder for about 4 days now and still have a ways to go. It seems like the more lots I want, the more dependants I discover. I'm not worried about the pretty lots as much as the dependants.  The lots are easier to grab and play with once the dependants are in place. I think this  installer should concentrate on  the dependants maby  with  an optional custum install feature that contain packs and essencials from the various modders like PEG, BSC, BLAM, etc. it would also be nice to have an automatic update feature (optional).

This way in a situation like mine I can be up and playing in one day. I took a look at my folder of SC4 downloads I have yet to reinstall and the files I still need to download.....and just went to lay down. at thi rate I'll be starting my new region in..........

Anyway I really look forward to seeing this become a reality, and yes I would pay for it!

You would have to make it region specific. Meaning you would have to use it in conjunction with the SC4 manager, so You would have A UK region, Western European, Parisian, USA Eastern Seaboard, Mediteranian, etc. Otherwise stuff would just look wiered together.

I'm in the same boat as Mr_Maison. I value the STEX but I'm overwhelmed at the prospect of starting from scratch as I try to download everything I once had.

I would get this DVD for sure. But I also agree with toxicpiano that you would have to regionalize the BATs or you might have a Blockbuster Video popping up right next to the Parisian Quatre Saisons buildling. And that's just like putting BBQ sauce on ice cream; they wouldn't mix. (But maybe some people would want that, so it should at least be an option to do a hodge-podge.)

Anyway, this is a great idea. I'd like to see it. (soon!)

I'm really interested in seeing another STEX. I'm yet another one of those folks that's overwhelmed at the prospect of installing hundreds of mods over again and I'd rather just pay for a DVD with all the best stuff on it. Does anyone know if this is in the works?

This is a great idea. I would definitely donate $ for a disk with all the latest buildings from the stex. I too have problems tracking down the correct dependency's. Then forgetting which ones I have.
