Looks like a french fries sno-cone. 2.gif Cool model. I'm not very good at modeling statues at all.

I really like those rippled windows on the penthouse level. Excellent effects. i have nothing but the utmost respect for you people that have mastered 3dStudioMAX like that. Absolutely amazing!

thanks.  But the practacallity of that is questionable.  I imagine that it can get rather toasty up there durring the summer days 5.gif.  The room that I reside in has a giant window that makes up most of one of the walls, beautiful view, but durring winter my room gets down to 10 to 15 degreese in the winter and up to 30 in the summer days.

so that is some kind of factory?

It would make an excellent brewery IMO. maybe I am just thinking too much of the Budweiser Brewery in St. Louis when I see it.

Or candy...Willy Wonka lol!

Here's a small render of an issue I'm having. I'm using a daylight system from Mental ray, and once again, having trouble with washed out texture.

whatwashoutpm1.png

Here's the thing though, the material on the finished building is the exact same as that of the wood floor, only a different bitmap which leads me to believe gamma correction is not the issue here or both would be affected.

Gamma correction IS THE ISSUE here!

I would very much recommend to you to set some time aside to read on some theory, it will save you a lot of grief!

Any and every photometric Sun/Sky system uses gamma correction to display HDR data on LDR screen. Some do it obviously (like mr Photographic Exposure or various Color Mapping in V-Ray) other (like Logarithmic Exposure control) hide the actual gamma settings from you. But ALL use it.

The value of Sun /Sky multiplier is irrelevat in this respect. It remains HDR light source.

In MAX2008 Gamma Correction workflow  (with mr. Photographic exposure) works beautifully! The issue I believe is with script. It may be to do with the fact that image is converted withing the script and gamma is not applied to the resulting one, or it may have something to do with the render type (crop) that is used. Sometimes even in normal MAX operation crop would apply gamma correction (when you have been enabling and disabling it) you would need to "run" normal render to reset it.

PS

If your textures are those you have posted in the texture tutorial thread then the answer is very simple. Those have clearly been de-Gamma. Naturally that after you have rendered then (and gamma 2.2) has been applied to them they look normal

But I haven't de-gamma-ed them! They're just straight up bitmaps. Furthermore, I've fixed it by adjusting the gamma from 1 to 1.8 in Photoshop. 4.gif

As for reading up, no thanks. Last time I read up I read something about adjusting the Gamma in 3ds max. Unfortunately, when I did this it screwed up my renders without fixing the problem and caused me 10x the grief. When I put up an angry post you dispatched this as ignorance. So excuse me if I don't fall down in awe at your literature but I seem to have far better results when I experiment, learn, and figure stuff out on my own.

As for what's in the pipeline:

I continue to work on my city block:

This one has the beginings of some textures:

nvm can't find the render, too lazy to render again

New MEXX store for behind it:

And a large old canal house now inhabited by resturant one side:

And a WE store on the other side:

brink110008br1.jpg

Not done yet, but getting there. Soon I will have a whole block of buildings. Anyone up for rendering for me? 9.gif

blueman020.jpg

Making the roof top a bit more livelier with some well to do people, plants, and glass/copper/wood funishings.  The poeple themselves are five minute models and I don't really like them I mean thier proportions ar a tad bit off and they look rather satirical... nor are the textures very good).  I'm working on some better models currently but it isn't going too well...

Here's an update to the 200 Greenwich:
One
Two
Done with Blender btw.
I'm still working on the top, I think it will look ok on sc but I would like to have more accurate representation.

Scipio:

Are those from Poser??

Are they articulated??

BB62BlackDragon:

Good start! But the towers are a bit off.

I mean that cut should form a continuous line with no breaks.

To get it right just create 4 blocks, attach them together and only then use slice modifier on them

Simfox: Unless I missunderstand you, there are no continous lines between each block, I've looked at all the renders and it only looks that way depending on the angle....here take a look:http://www.pbase.com/nyguy/image/66462508/original.jpg

However I did say I didn't like how it looks and will probably redo them.

I'm editing my original post to use photobucket images instead of imageshack.  Here's what we were talking about though:

The interior is pretty much as accurate as I could get it, I have not been up the tower since 2005. I might go up next week actually, and get a decent look.
