Yeah, I see that. 15.gif It's not as noticeable in the full size shots, but it still there. I'm building the stadium with the field oriented north to south, although in reality it's oriented on a line 33 degrees west of north. Will that help diminish the pattern, or is there something more cosmetic that I have to do?

Work continues on Red Hill Stadium, which is going to be basically a larger, more refined update of a yuck older field I did.

>

The stand on the left side is going to be a large, half-horseshoe looking set, only on that sideline. The rest of the field will be surrounded by a slightly smaller bowl. All the press and team buildings will be on the right side of the field.

Rotating it might help, but off the top of my head I don't know what angles would help.  Making the benches bigger (so that the image pattern is no longer at the same scale as the pixel grid pattern) would help, but then you have big benches.  You can also probably look at stadium BATs that don't have this problem, and you can see what is different between this one and those ones.

Work on Red Hill is coming along good. I'm working on the facades for the stands right now, which is tough for me, since I hate/really stink at doing buildings. Usually I just cheat around it and make supports under the stands, but since these have tunnels, I have to make it look like there's something inside. Got a nice red stucco texture to work with now, though.

Last update before I settle in.

>

The stand on the north end is going to come all the way around the field, to about the same spot on the south side. It'll continue on the east side, but I'll add a second deck, and some press buildings. West stand is pretty much done, just need to polish and fill in some gaps.

Yeah, that's what I'm doing. What usually happens is that I do everything but that first, so by the time I get around to it, the file is huge, and any little thing I build takes forever to get into place. So I just slap something up and get rid of it. The side that you see right now isn't going to get much more glamorous, it isn't the main building. The other side will have a lot of detail.

yea, that happened to me when I tried to make a stadium.

I would use seat textures on a slanted box compared to what you are today, it looks amazing (look at teemus work) and doesn't slow the file down. What your doing now is fine, but as you said, it makes gmax wicked slow 3.gif

And I know that it does, but I find my rise-and-build style much easier to work with and bend around, since I can select what I want, when I want without re-sizing. But you're right.

It's off to a good start Skyliner22.

Before you do anything else, go to the Utilities tab (looks like a hammer, it's the tab you click on to go to BAT previews), and go the Parameters rollout, and click the button to reset your lights and cameras.  That will fix that weird lighting effect on your building.

Then, add window frames to all of the panes of glass.  If you look at a photo of a glassy building, there are still going to be frames.

So, can I just say one thing?

I HATE curved sections.

There has to be an easier way to model them. But whatever, I'm done. All I have to do is finish the East side and mirror it over to the West side.

And then re-do the East side to include the Press Box.  This is what happens when you build with north pointing south. 45.gif

Anyway, Z4-ish preview of what is done so far.

(I thought keeping the pictures at my monitor's native ratio would minimize/remove the interference. Apparently I was wrong.)

So, I think, for the stands and such, I am almost finished that one side. In fact, I'm pretty sure I am. I'm just gonna sleep on it to see if I should add anything else before mirroring and continuing.

That's not 3ds, is it? (Looks almost like Sketchup.) How do you get such great edge definition?

Thanks, and yeah, it is 3dsmax.  That's a straight up render, not a SC4 preview, so I can get it in perspective and much higher resolution.  The lighting was done but just putting a huge white plane (like 1000 x 1000) under the model, and dropping in a Skylight with "Cast shadows" turned on.  It creates a very nice ambient shadow complex which when combined with a Directional light can create some very convincing daylight.

There are so many of them aren't there? It's a shame they've been dwarfed by time. Anyway, looking very good indeed.

On the more modern side of things for me, bare in mind I have not set the glass up correctly yet. Hence it looks weird.yaykt9.jpg
