Well a couple days ago I read an instruction manual on how to assemble a bed from Ikea

And are you still confused?

No...lol

You should have seen the one that came with my executive desk a few years ago. When I disposed of it, I couldn't find the instructions and had to hire a handyman to help me disassemble it. All I have left of it is the drawer unit.

You can't find them unless you take it apart in the right order. This desk was meant to be assembled once, then never moved.

Till it falls apart.

It was built like the Maginot line. I paid around 2G's for it in Ikea's business furniture section.

I know you are something of a linguist. Are you reading Camille in the original? It was made into an opera by Verdi called La Traviata.

Enjoy the Euripides. Medea wasn't a very nice lady.

@Rymac91: Enjoy Little Fuzzy. There is at least one sequel. Fuzzies are a lot smarter than ewoks. The whole thing is a bit of a space opera where greedy capital loses. If you are reading Piper, don't miss the Paratime Patrol series.

So far I am almost done reading the book They Cage Animals at Night. I just started the final chapter (14, there are 293 pages total) and so far the book has been the most bittersweet reading experience I had to date.

The scouring of the Shire would have made another movie.

Pfft, no it wouldn't. In fact, it shouldn't have even been included in the books. Just "closing time" and not worth noting. Kind of like the first several chapters of The Hobbit.

Currently, I am reading A Clash of Kings, on my way to remembering this series before I read the new (less than spectacularly rated) A Dance with Dragons in queue at that thar liberry.

I disagree that the scouring of the Shire would have made another movie (at most it would add another 15 minutes or so to ROTK), but it would have been cool to have it in the film... one of my 10 favorite scenes in ROTK is not going to be in the movie :(

(for those who were wondering, I haven't watched the movie yet :P)

Actually, it appeared in ROTK in summary. There could easily have been a spun out version if you backtracked on the doings of the Shire during the whole LOTR, with a few flashbacks. Could have been milked for another box office sweep. The nefarious doings of the defrocked Saruman might have been a pretty good horror film in a sad sort of way. A large number of middling important characters were kind of swept out with the trash at the end.

Enjoy the George R. R. Martin. That is a no punches pulled science fiction/fantasy novel.

Barbarossa has taken a step that I have often taken as well. Rereading something after a long interval will find new meaning and content. I was introduced to Le Comte de Monte Cristo in either grade X or XI French Authors class. In our schools, if you take a language, there are (used to be) two papers to get the credit: language (mostly grammar with some sociology and geography) and Authors which was the literature of the originating country.

Reading something in the original can be quite enlightening because translators always interpret things, no matter how well intentioned. For instance some of the things in Caesar's Gallic Campaigns are nearly untranslatable. You have to know the culture and the times to read some of this stuff.

A good example of how a crime story becomes a romance is the story Carmen by Prosper Mérimée. The original is told by the lover, not named Don José, who is awaiting execution (by garrote) in a Spanish prison for the murder of the heroine. It is a short story, and the hero is a Basque bandit.
