I just finished to read The Hound of the Baskerville.

Conclusion: I don't like it, I feel dissapointed.

Now I'm in a conflict, wich of this 4 books should I start:

  1. Yo Robot/I Robot - Isaac Asimov
  2. La Sombra/The Shadow, or Der Schattenman (I don't founded the original title) - John Katzenbach
  3. Las Siete Iglesias/Sedmi Kostelí - Milos Urban
  4. Apocalipsis Z: Los días oscuros - Manuel Loureiro.

Depends. Of those my preference is the Asimov, the trials and tribulations of Dr. Susan Calvin. It is a set of anecdotes that show the development of Asimov's positronic robots. Leads directly into the two novels The Caves of Steel, and The Naked Sun. There is a remote tie in with the Foundation Trilogy (heavy going). Once you start reading Asimov, you may well be hooked for a while.

    Currently reading:

    On Evil by Terry Eagleton

So far it is really interesting looking at Evil from literary and phycological perspectives. Historical case examples are still to come.

The book is a good read so far.

Still slugging through Hugh Downs. Some of his articles are very thought provoking.

E.B. are you doing a general survey of Science Fiction for fun or profit?

I am really a fan of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid line. For those who do not now, it a cartoon style novel about the adventures of Greg trying to fit-in high school

It also discusses, in a funny approach, how high school could be the ultimate playground for someone and hell for someone else. Pretty much how I experienced high school as well. Top to that the ever intriguing conflict with his brother, who like other brothers really pick on their younger siblings. There are explanations as to why this occurrences happen, on one hand, the kid is exposed at a very tender age to how rough life could be but on the other, they just make it an excuse for them to pick on their brothers or sisters.

I followed the link to the poem. Just a piece of good writing opposing bad censorship. Quite good and not objectionable at all.

I think everyone who hasn't read it should read Fanny Hill (A Memoir of a Woman of Pleasure). Failing that, try Madame Bovary or Lady Chatterley's Lover or The Catcher in the Rye. All of these were banned from school libraries at one point or other. Has anyone read any of the Bowdler editions of Shakespeare? Rips the guts right out of the plays.

I hear that there is to be an expurgated edition of Mark Twain's great pair of books on life on the Mississippi. Don't people realize that the N word was in common use at that time, and that denying history is just making a statement about their own tolerance? What about Joseph Conrad's "The N of the Narcissus". Pfaugh!

None of these books are banned in Ontario.

Does anyone know if there are any books left on the Vatican Index? As far as I know, there is one, whose title escapes me at the moment.

I'm currently reading 'The Picture of Dorian Grey' by Oscar Wilde. Quite a good read, got it on Kindle for free along with a few other classics.

It's pretty clear which way Oscar Wilde swung though, considering the amount of time he used to describe the male characters vs. the women. :P

To be honest, I have been on a slow decline in book reading since my 7th grade teacher died the summer of 2005 after I brought her to tears with a response I made when she told me to stop reading in class. I was such a good student, I still earned a sizeable amount of tickets (like "gold stars" that can be redeemed for candy or trinkets), those were taken away at the end of the year when a detention-bird student complained of me charging 1 ticket per week for lones of 10 tickets. That is also a reason why I don't value money. I find savings useless so I buy food and entertainment with all money I receive (whether as wages or gifts).

What I do read is mostly magazines, comics/manga, textbooks, but especially the Web (forums, dictionaries, and encyclopedias).

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

    Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3
