Alrighty, here's the proposed location of the Monument, as laid out by Mayor Mandel. Right on the riverbank, and off Capilano Avenue. Fitting location, no? Some changes will need to be made, such as a relocation of the transformer you see near the bridge, it's a bit unsightly to have beside a park celebrating the city, IMO. 2.gif My plan was for walking paths extending out into the strip of land, with a nice statue, or something similar on the bank. I'll lay it out in more detail on my next update. (Stay tuned!) For now, here's some more pictures from around Capilano Valley.

    capilanohillside.jpg

One of the TV and Communications towers found around the hillsides in the valley. Also seen is H3, the highway that runs directly through the city. While there are no real overpasses yet, the Mayor has proposed the idea of upgrading the intersection you see at the top left to a full overpass. With some 3000 cars passing through there, it gets to be a bit of a mess come rush hour. However, any changes won't be for a while down the road. (haha, pun!)

The high mast lighting you see was installed before the city expanded so close to the highway, and there has been started a petition to remove them, as it shines quite brightly on the houses built against the highway. Stay tuned for updates on that.

    throughmountains.jpg

A shot of the H22 snaking through the mountains. If you read the newspaper, you would have noticed that sections are awaiting upgrading from the province..

    queenhighway.jpg

... Areas such as this. While there are concrete guard rails on the edges of the highway, it is still perilous to drive, especially once winter hits. Thrice already this year have cars gone off the edge, all in but one occasion involving fatalities. After much lobbying by the municipal government, the Province has agreed to help fund an upgrade to the highway. In some reports, there will be a large strip of land between the highway and the edge, in others the highway will be rerouted completely. News on this front should become available to the press within the next few weeks.

At this time, I'd like to point out some mods and (gasp) cheats I've used to create this city. I use the NAM (who doesn't?) as well as cycledoggs tree mods. I also make heavy use of Buggi's new cheats, specifically the Moolah cheat. Lets just say that Capilano has a large oil reserve somewhere? 3.gif Also, I'm using a small 1x1 grass lot to provide all the services to some of the city tiles, as I consider it unrealistic to have a coal plant in each city. 3.gif Also, I use the super demand ordinance to kick start the city into getting it going. Finally, I have a small 1x1 grass lot which provides commerical $$ jobs to some of my cities. In order to make this a realistic impression of a city, it's impossible to keep the supply/demand up in each tile. Hopefully you guys can understand that and live with it; I just don't want to hear about how I'm evil since I 'cheat.' 2.gif

I use the NAM (who doesn't?)quote>

I don't use the NAM... seriously. Not that I have something against it but I've been growing cities without the NAM. It just makes it more fulfilling for me.

People use cheats all the time (I do, if I'm not in the mood for a serious game). Some CJ'ers sometimes don't indicate that they use cheats in their work. Feel free to use them cheats *insert devilish laugh here*

The burbs are great (including the how the roads are integrated). The general area itself is scenic and very peaceful. Lookin' good!

Man, that region is beautiful, as well as are the closeup nature shots! The town itself is also very beautiful with all the green, and the newspaper is very well done my friend...I can be a big grammar freak, so I noticed that your newspaper probably has the best correct use of grammar out of any CJ I've seen here on ST (although I shouldn't really talk because, up until now, I haven't looked at any CJs since 2 1/2 months ago).

Great CJ so far! Hopefully I will be able to come back another time. Until then, take care.

Wow that's great...but no real downtown...cities need a downtown especially if they're isolated...it would be cool to do a type of fishermans wharf bayside downtown too...that would look nice...and then put some shops along the shoreline and some hotels.

    Beebs: What to say

One first of all ABOUT TIME!

Second, I am working on the back modding of those super lots

Third, very senic and very cool and refreshing indeed - literally

Fourth, need a centralised Downtown CBD in just one of the areas followed with a sprinking of town centres every so often, I have some lots in STEX that will suit for you

Otherwise its the four thumbs up

Oh and Schulmanator nice pic - 3.gif

    Construction Begins

    precon.jpg

Here's just a shot of what everything was like before construction started.

    poweracross.jpg

Ok, the first step in the Mayors plan was to remove the large, unsightly transformer from the area and re-route the powerlines that travelled across the river.  He proposed moving the lines under the bridge, and  bringing everything underground after that. Save space, keep things looking pretty.

    powergone.jpg

Here's the look of things after the mayor had his way. Looks better, eh? 3.gif

    seawall.jpg

Here's where the real construction begins. After a few weeks work, you can see the mayors vision starting to come alive. After clear-cutting all the trees, he set construction crews on the task of scuplting out a seawall. Hundreds of truck loads of dirt had to be brought in, but I think we're starting to see that all that effort is beginning to pay off.

    commercial.jpg

You can see here where there has been some proposed commercial development. There is mixed reaction about this proposal; the businessmen are all over it, seeing the opportunities that such prime real estate could hold. Most other citizens of the Valley wish that entire area remain parkland. We'll check up in the next update to see how the power stuggle plays out.

    comments.jpg

Krio: Thanks! I'm glad you like it! 9.gif

BlondeTwiggy: Hehe, glad to hear I'm not alone! Thanks for the comment!

Deever: Hm, I couldn't live without the NAM.. I just enjoy all the new options it gives us, more freedom and that. To each his own though, I suppose. Thanks for the comment, and I'm glad you like it! Feel free to check back 3.gif

    BarbulaM1: Just some? Hehe... Thanks!

    crushedcar: Thanks so much! 4.gif

cityhawk: Thanks very much!.. Stay tuned next update for another paper. 2.gif

    Mikeaut1: Thanks, mikey!

    cheese91: Thank ya, Pooby.

Interchange: Hehe, we'll see... I'm not planning for any med/high density, but perhaps things will change as the Valley grows.

Frankie Grove: Thank ya! Glad you likey! 9.gif

Amerikaner: Pleased to hear you like it. Keep working on your 'burbs though.. practice makes perfect. 4.gif

Palpatine001: Hehe 3.gif Glad you enjoy it, and thanks for the comment! (We'll see about a business district 2.gif )

crazychickensc12: Thanks so much! Try not to invade with an army of orcs or something. 3.gif

    daniel01: Thanks, and I'll try!
