I did that using 3dsmax. I probably could finish it but therefore i need more reference material. I've never been to Walt Disney World before since I'm European.

You might or might not know that I'm one of the first members of the HKABT. We developed some techniques which makes our models much more realistic. I also was involved with the MAPP making some of the coasters.

Well I think that is what we are looking for. Check out this link for pictures of SpaceShip Earth.

    Pictures from Google

Again I want to stress we DO NOT want the "Mickey/Epcot Arm Thingy" on our SpaceShip Earth. Disney attached that dreadful thing about 6 years ago for the 2000 celebration and then changed it to its current form afterwards. Most of us prefer the original without the arm. For almost 2 decades it was not there!

Guys this is a great blog about SE and why the arm should GO!

    Check it out!

LOL -- Yes the entire park is called Epcot. Up until around 1993 it was always called EPCOT Center. Disney changed it because they wanted to move the park from being more of a future park to a World's Fair kinda of feel. Incidently most people also call the theme park with the castle by the wrong name as well. Most people will say "I want to go to Disney World." When they say this they mean the Magic Kingdom. You see each theme park has its own name. The entire set of all theme park together with all the resort hotels are called == Walt Disney World Resort. Epcot is just one theme park within the Walt Disney World Resort. Very similar to Disneyland where by the Magic Kingdom is the park and Disneyland Resort is the park(s) and hotel combined. the other thing that most people think is also what you thought -- the "golf ball" is Epcot. No thats SpaceShip Earth. Again Epcot refers to the entire park including Future World and World Showcase. The other interesting note is ALL Disney owned hotels always begin with "Disney's" -- For example -- Disney's Grand Floridan Resort and Spa is owned by the Walt Disney Co. while the Walt Disney World Swain is not. (the building may be but it is poerated by Westin or Sheraten). The hotels along hotel plaza drive are all owned and operated by "Offical Hotels of WDW". Everything else which lies "off property" is not affliated in anyway with Disney other then a few hotels that are knida of offical in a sense.

While we are chatting about stats here are some that should be of interest to EVERYONE!

Taken from a website (having worked there I had to know most of this info. Guest would ask you things like this all the time).

    Walt Disney World's Buildings

Size of Property Walt Disney Bought!

The property lies just southwest of Orlando in the Cities of Bay Lake and Lake Buena Vista (both of these cities are OWNED by the Walt Disney Co.). The total land area is 30,500 Acres or 47 Square Miles (roughly twice the size of Manhatten or the size of the City of Los Angles). The parks are: The Magic Kingdom - 107 Acres, Epcot - 300 Acres, Disney/MGM Studios 154 Acres, and Animal Kingdom is 300+ acres. Walt Disney bought all this land for an average of $100.00 per acre in the mid to late '60's. Know you would be lucky to find property within 500 miles that would be less then $1,000 per acre. He wanted all the property we could as to control ALL development. He never liked Disneyland sprawl that occured just outside the gates. Currently with all parks and all resorts combined the company has only used roughly 25% of the land he bought!

    Cinderella Castle

October 1998: Cinderella Castle can now be illuminated in 16 million colors, providing even more magic during "Fantasy in the Sky" fireworks at the Magic Kingdom. The castle's new computer-controlled light system creates visual excitement with 60 color changes synchronized to the evening's fireworks show. As the park closes, guests can view the ever-changing lights as they complete a loop of dramatic colors.

    Architects

CASTING CENTER - Robert A.M. Stern, Architects. Designed to reflect the architectural styles found in the theme parks. (I worked here during my 2nd intership)

CARIBBEAN BEACH RESORT - Fugleberg Koch Architects, Winter Park Florida. Designed in the style of Caribbean island bungalows.

CONTEMPORARY RESORT - Welton Becket & Associates. Designed in a futuristic, modular style themed to American vacations. -- The rooms where fitted else where and hosted in place by cranes when this resort was built. Also the piles go all the way to the bedrock to ensure NO settling as the monorail line would have to be very persision built as movement could destress the lines.

GRAND FLORIDIAN BEACH RESORT - Wimberly, Whisenand, Allison, Tong, & Goo of Newport Beach, CA. The style is reminiscent of the Victorian era with a strong Key West/Caribbean influence.

POLYNESIAN RESORT - Welton Becket & Associates, Santa Monica, California. Designed with a South Pacific theme.

SWAN and DOLPHIN RESORTS - Michael Graves designed the hotels with the theme "entertainment architecture."

TEAM DISNEY BUILDING - Arata Isozaki and Associates, Tokyo, designed the building as a contemplation of time and space. This is one of the largest office buildings in the world -- also if turned on its end it would be one of the tallest as well.

WILDERNESS LODGE - Peter Dominick Jr. of Urban Design Group and DDC. The lodge is based on the romantic visions of the early west and an interpretation of the National Park Service lodges created under the direction of Stephen Mather from 1904-1924 and inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement.

YACHT & BEACH CLUB RESORTS - Robert A.M. Stern. The Yacht Club is themed to a late 1800, New England seaside resort. The Beach Club is themed to 1860 and 1870's seaside wooden cottages.

Okay here we go with signs!  As you see they are kinda of special.  All signs on "DISNEY PROPERTY" have this same color scheme.... (SP?) -- But any signs leading up to property -- including I4 and US192 are all standard US Highway (GREEN) signs.  Hope this helps.

    Signs-1.jpg

These are typical still for over highway siugns -- The first set have these Mickey Ears that "raise" -- They start with just one side and keep moving as you drive forward -- I also seem to remember a white Mickey glove / hand coming over the sign as if Mickey was hanging on the back.  In the bottom photo there is one more type of sign -- the light blue -- you can see it in the distance.  -- Those are ONLY used for RESORT HOTELS.

    Sign-2.jpg

Also there are these huge signs added around 1996 - 1997 that say WELCOME TO WALT DISNEY WORLD RESORT.

    simfox, this is incredible.

never seen such an awesome work in a shpere like the SE...

I've worked a little at my ITSW yesterday evening and today morning. not much actually, but basic problems like the tunnels are solved finally, so now, I can concentrate on the foundation of the building (what I've done till now is a little elevated above the park's groundlevel)... what will include the water in which the boats float around = problem cuz I have no clue how to do a realistic water with the bat

    hey hey hey!

    This is looking great.

Okay let me see if I can come up with some pictures of the building behind it.

Well for obveous reasons --(boring looking at the back of this thing) LOL -- there are NOT a lot of photos --

    But here is one--  http://www.startedbyamouse.com/features/spaceship_earth02.shtml

Okay here is the deal -- the building is just like this all the way around EXCEPT where the two cylinders are -- those are the exit of the attraction (ride).  Check google earth and google maps for the way it is shaped.  -- You may want to make it slightly shorter by one tile to conserve space.  Anyway it looks great!
