I am downloading it as I type this! Finally, a decent program that will work with Microsoft's fine program Windows 98. Unlike some things (cough, DarkMatter's DatGen cough). I can not wait to use gmax! Hopefully I will become a master lot builder! I am still looking for a particular niche in this site. I am so excited!

Ah, I have windows XP and cannot run DM's DatGen 

But you should be able to run GMax under Win98.   People have been using GMax for years, long before WinXP.

I downloaded the gmax 1.2 installer from the link rybolton gave successfully (thanks for the link), but when I run the installation program, an error message saying that my computer can't find the windows installer. what do I do

Yup! If you have a dial up modem that is, as I do. A download manager might help especially one that can break up the file and download multiple parts simultaneously, and resume broken downloads. Or you could see if it is available on a cd somewhere eg. on a computer magazine or in a software store. Sometimes they have demo disks for sale.

As far as download managers go I prefer NetAnts....Also just d/led GMax(2min40secs on cable)and I'm gonna play around with it some. First stab at anything like this and I will post results.

Thanks for the link, Rybolton, I finally got to downloading it and am now fiddling: this is not my first 3D modeling, as I have designed several levels and missions for Descent 3 previously, but I still have a long way to go to achieve anything extremely impressive, I think.

That's the download speed I get, and I have 10MB/s university ethernet! Maybe their packet shaper is limiting ftp downloads.

FYI if you have a slow connection like this, use some kind of FTP program (FileZilla, CuteFTP or WS_FTP) because you can resume from this ftp. My connection broke the first time I tried downloaded, then I used CuteFTP and it broke once but automatically resumed the file for me. Took a lot ass time to do it though. Just walk away from the computer and do something for oh say, 4 to 5 hours.

I have the same problem. Tell me why and how to fix it. Is it because you need WinZip?

If GMAX downloads correct you should get a RED icon with GMAX underneath.Click and it will want you to register with discret.After all that go get BAT at main.

Geez! I ask a question, I get ignored. Happens all the time to me. I got singled out by another question. What is an estimate time of the gMax 1.2 installer (19MB or 19,000KB) with a 46.6KB/S dial-up (what I've got)? I estimated 6min., 47s, or 7 min., or at most 10min., but I'm not sure. That's why I'm asking the whizzes here at Simtropolis.

Does anypone have a registration key? Seen as it is a free program I see no problem in distributing the code, because I have tried for 2 days to get the code, and all I get is :

For the last 2 days that is all that happens!

i had trouble getting the reg key! but if you go to gmax forums there is a file you can download that adds a reg key that unlocks it!
