  1. Building Log: World Trade Center (Pre-9/11)

What other memorials were you thinking of making? Maybe you could make the memorial bigger, or put half the names on the other side of it. Honestly, being able to read each individual name isn't that important, although it would be cool. I think the point is that it is there, and from the pic I could tell that names were written on there. It looks really good to me, and I think it is a nice way to show respect. I was curious about some other things, does the game randomly have windows light up, or is it just something that you permanently decide (which windows light up) when you create your building? What would be a rough guess of the hours you have put into say, each of the four different structures (Tower 1, Tower 2, the Plaza and the Hotel), or maybe just a total time for all? What would you suggest is the best way to design in the BAT to fit the scale of buildings in Sim City? Like when creating an object you enter the length, width, height, etc; what is 1 unit of that in relation to a unit of sim city space, or real life space (since sim city attempts to scale to real life units, such as the area of a large city is supposed to be 4km x 4km). I guess a better way to ask this is, how the hell did you know how big to make the Tower's in the BAT? Kind of a personal question, what kind of education do you have, what kind of work do you do? You're really good at computer modeling and it's something I've always wondered if I could do professional but never knew how to pursue that career.
  2. Where to get GMAX

Maybe their packet shaper is limiting ftp downloads. FYI if you have a slow connection like this, use some kind of FTP program (FileZilla, CuteFTP or WS_FTP) because you can resume from this ftp. My connection broke the first time I tried downloaded, then I used CuteFTP and it broke once but automatically resumed the file for me. Took a lot ass time to do it though. Just walk away from the computer and do something for oh say, 4 to 5 hours.
  3. Building Log: World Trade Center (Pre-9/11)

I think politics should be taken to another thread and this thread be kept about rubik's and anyone else's efforts on creating a model of the twin towers in the game. Not that I don't like the talk, just I don't like looking for an update on it's progress and having to trudge through political arguments. I'd like to share my opinion on it too, maybe someone should start up a thread; or maybe there is an old one already discussing it? I bet there is! Rubik I'm really impressed with what you've done, it's more than I've imagined anyone could do with the game. Keep up the good work, and don't let nit pickers bug you Speaking of nit picking! I was wondering if you were considering releasing the buildings all as seperate lots, and the memorial plaza as well, since I read you were going to make one huge lot. With the buildings on seperate lots, people could get more creative with how the buildings are set up, including traffic flow and park placement. Anyone have any pics of a top-down view of the WTC site setup including building footprints/roads, parks, etc.
  4. Make Historical sometimes does Not work!

What Maxis should do is if you make a building historical, it should suddenly gain a "monthly fee" like regular civic buildings. It should also give an increase in desirability for Res. and Com. in the area. Plus, it should never look distressed, although it is possible for it to be abandoned. Basically, by adding a monthly fee to making a building historical is like saying "the city will foot the bill for maintaining this building no matter what." This in turn will make the building more appealing for possible tenents and nearby lots. Plus, if the building becomes empty it is still being maintained, which would be a huge drain on the city budget. This way making buildings historical becomes a strategic issue, not just a esthetic issue.
