Devonshire: Meet Me at George's Crossroads

    lakegeorgesealvk2.gif

Our next stop in our exploration of the Villages of Lake George is George's Crossroads, a small farming town on the hills overlooking the western end of Lake George. So, without further ado, welcome to George's Crossroads!

    townviewfromeastkp1.jpg

From Lake George, look up and to the west and you will see the fields and homes of George's Crossroads. The road running from top to bottom in this image connects the villages around the lake to the open sea, hence its name - Sealake Road. The town's intersection - the crossroads - is where Sealake meets with H. A. Rey Lane (to the south/left) and Margaret Rey Lane (to the north/right). Most locals just refer to the whole street as "Rey Lane" rather than use the formal name. After all, when there are only 204 residents, it's a safe bet everyone knows where on Rey Lane you are!

    townviewfromsouthoo6.jpg

From the south, we look up Rey Lane and see the fields by most of the homes. There's only two shops in town. Most residents get their goods and services in one of the larger lakeside towns or in the seaport.

    townviewfromnorthhd2.jpg

From the north, the typical Lake George village city gates can be seen flanking Sealake Road as it comes from the port. A small enclosed pasture provides the locals with the meat and milk and cheese they need to make many a hearty meal.

    townviewfromwestwa4.jpg

From the west, the city gates are easily seen marking the town's boundary line. The town's fields, seen flanking the crossroads, provide most of the food for the lake villages.

Now that you are oriented better, let's go in for some close up views of the charming little town, the smallest of the lake villages.

    crossroads1la5.jpg

At the town center, homes cluster around the crossroads. One of the only shops in town is El Mono's Feed Store. The upper floors comprise the village council's offices and archive.

    crossroads2lm1.jpg

The main competitor for villagers' schulmonetas is Zooboomafoo General Store. The upper levels of that building host the offices of the Lake George Farmers Alliance. The alliance ensures the highest quality for all Devonshire foods produced in the Lake George area.

    intersection1qn7.jpg

The home on the right is in the center of town but still adjacent to the fields. Miss Shanna Genova lives in this home, where she paints beautiful landscapes and sells them at a nearby gallery. Her "Laurie Landscapes" have proven hugely popular.

Let's head into town to explore the outlying farms and fields.

    citygategh2.jpg

Entering George's Crossroads.... Blink and you'll miss it!

    intersection2na6.jpg

The fine home in the center is owned by Mr. & Mrs. Narya, who live in this happy home with their three children and pet dragoncats. The cottages on the left are owned by Archy Angel. His children live in the back cottage.

Once you venture out from the main intersection, you find at each end of Rey Lane some side roads which lead to local farms, which we will explore in the next update.

Very . . . I'm not sure, the sugar does such wonderful things to my . . . extremities. Looks good through blurred dizzy tunnel vision, so I dost protest thine consumption of sweets. My parting message: sugar is good, so GET ME MORE!!! TopCliff

Hey, George's crossroads is a nice town! Ok, it has only two shops, I admit, but I love it! I have to go to El Mono feed store, it must be interesting! And I will go to the party, yes, but it is going to be an UFO? I mean, a light brighting in Devonshire? Is there electrical light in Schulmania? If yes, WOW!! They are incredibly advanced; if no, WOW!! They are incredibly 1600-age people yet! Sorry, I don't know what I am saying.

Where did you go on holidays? Me, personally I didn't go to anywhere.

patriots_1228 This is one dream which has come true!

Jacqulina Thanks! You are so kind! I actually used some of Darmok's leveling techniques to get lots more along how I wanted them. Still a few places which left room for improvement, but not too bad overall!

Topcliff More sugar?? Hmm, we need a Busscastle Chocolates update soon!

Asturianu Hola, Cristian! Nope, no electricity yet. You are Hester have to play tubas by candlelight. As for my vacation, here's where I went:

    newbern_arieal.jpg

New Bern NC was the headquarters for my exploration

    It's where Pepsi was invented

From there, we ventured out to Okracoke Island by ferry...

Then further up to Jockey's Ridge and Kill Devil Hills

To the site of first aviation in powered flight at Kill Devil Hills, hence the state license plate:

We also hit some lesser known places...

And lots of interesting small towns:

We saw lots of cool birds, especially while on the ferry. We are processing the better pix from ~1000 taken on the trip. I should upload some! Thanks for asking about my trip!

Bat Thanks! Glad you like this new little town.

    Krio They're a-comin' Krio!

fledder200 Thanks! It's only a short wagon ride from your home in Georgetown. Perhaps you will come over and do a concert?

sc4portugal Obrigado! I am glad you enjoyed it.

Oh... just a word to the wise investor: Yellow Hat Realty has been negotiating with several property owners to sell their lots in George's Crossroads. Some landowners have visions of schulmonetas dancing in their head.... could it be your schulmonetas they see?? Stay tuned to find out!

Good news! The next update for George's Crossroads is almost ready to post! After that, I believe Yellow Hat Realty has something planned which may be of interest...

BTW, for those who may be interested in learning more about North Carolina, check www.visitnc.com. For Jacky and her compatriots, www.northcarolinatravel.co.uk. For Bat and his compatriots, www.northcarolinatravel.de. Gosh, I should be a teacher... if/when I grow up!!

AAAAAH!!! I bid anything: my Jordan 23's, my fathers old BMW, MY SOUL for a property! And, sad to say, I've moved on from sugar after Easter. I'm now really into hot dogs and ginger ale. Speaking of which, Sazello Meat Inc. (my personal region, so HA!) wants to set up a hot dog stand in Schulmania. Do the Schulmanians want to enjoy the purest meat from behind the dumpster money can buy? If not, we've got the egg cannon ready and aimed at the Capitol. HAHAHAHAHAHAH-Die at the hands of my, er, hands, you evil ferret! *long battle with many scratches and atomic Melvins ensue* Don't . . . look . . . at . . . me! TopCliff

It's a nice, quaint village, but could you at least check that the houses are built level with the ground? 3.gif

I'm not climbing up retaining walls. 3.gif
