Homeandaway   Hey, Alex. I am glad you liked the new national symbols. I use a combination of sources for them. I wish I had the skills to make them from scratch. That's more of Narya's ability level. Now she's a real artiste!

    Hester   Glad ya like em!

infinitum19   Thanks. Glad to see you back!

Lynx of Nekominkoku    1,000 pardons, Mr. Lynx! I think I saw your yarn ball down the street - Cristian was tossing it in the air and Hester was chasing it.

Bat   Thanks! The next update will have flags. Well, flags of a sort, anyway! And, thanks to the fine folks at BSC, I now have an in-game Schulmania flag, which shall of course be plopped many times over in future updates!

Jacqulina   That's OK. We need some "gong show" music too!!

Giligone   Thanks. It is a bit different, isn't it? Well suited for its purpose.

Homeandaway   You are most welcome. A big purr to Blackie as well!

Topcliff   Fear not! All is not lost! If there is sufficient interest, there may be another auction in the next Devonshire town.

DioAngel     I like Beethoven too. But the only instrument I play is the radio!

So, if anyone wants an auction in George's Crossroads (the next town), lemme know and I will work on setting one up. It'd be about 2 weeks out before I am ready.

Also, a free teaser for a soon to be update:

    Atkinos: Beach Party in Schulmanidad

Everyone remembers Schulmanidad. It's currently the southernmost city in Schulmania. Located on the northern coast of Schulmania, Schulmanidad is home to Risa, the first resort in the realm.

    wideviewtoszz9.jpg

    There. Doesn't this look familiar?

The thing is, the coastline was not the soft golden sand one associates with an ocean beach. Of course, there's a good reason for this. But, nobody knew that reason at the time. The shore was mostly soft dirt, with some rocks. It was comfortable enough for playing and swimming, but one always returned home with dirty feet. To find a solution for this, Risa's new owners, Horgonn & Jamaharon Properties, contracted with Schulmanidad's infrastructure engineers, Asturias & Lloyd. A series of experiments was conducted to determine what the soil's composition was and develop solutions.

    5.SoilProfile.jpg

Soil tests showed that the shoreline was composed of mostly humus-rich topsoil, with moderate sand and clay components and occasional small rocks.

Rocks do not make for a comfortable beach. Despite what I found on the Greek Isles a few summers back, rocks do not a comfortable beach make. When the sun beats down on them, your feet will sizzle like bacon in the pan. Never mind the lumpy hardness. And the humus, though soft on the feet, became muddy very quickly. The clay simply would not do for a beach surface. It was gooey when wet and very messy. The sand, which was ~20% of the soil by volume, did not have the messiness or discomfort problems associated with the other soil components. Therefore, it was proposed that the soil along the shore be dredges and filtered into its components parts. Then, the clay and rock could be extracted and used for construction purposes. The rich topsoil could be used for the nearby farms. The sand could then be redeposited back on the shoreline. This would create a sandy beach. This beach would be clean and comfortable. And, best of all, perfect for building sand castles!

    0395978343.01._AA240_SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg

Expert muckrakers Polly Tician was called in to get the process started. Soon, hundreds of cubic meters of soil had been processed. She called in a crew of cronies to accelerate the project. In only 3 months, the entire shoreline around central Schulmanidad had been filtered and redeposited. The clay and rock had been sent across the realm to be used in construction and garden pots. The humus had been exported to Old Schulmania and points north to revitalize the fields. All that remained was soft, golden sand. Once the transformation was complete, a new standard for beaches was made. Schulmanidad became the beach destination for the whole country. Everyone wanted to enjoy the wide sandy beaches. Let's see what was done to the area around the Risa resort and the remainder of Schulmanidad's shoreline.

    xbeach11pq4.jpg

Risa featured the finest vacation facilities in the nation. Now, that was coupled with the finest sand beach. This pair of superlatives is what helped establish Risa as the early dominator in the luxury vacation market. By the 24th century, Risa's reputation had spread across the galaxy.

    xbeach4ob1.jpg

    xbeach8md0.jpg

A wider view shows how extensive the beach building process was. Businesses all along the "grand strand" started raking in the schulmonetas from tourists at an unprecedented rate. For example, Narya's Bakery tripled profits in just one month after the beach project completed.

    xbeach3eq6.jpg

    xbeach2yk8.jpg

The beach near the resort inspired sunbathers, kite fliers, picnickers, and a curious new sport called beach volleyball.

On the eastern side of the ferry port, sand was also added to the shoreline. This, in essence, turned homes with a water view into beachside homes. The desirability of the homes along the new beach rose dramatically.

    xbeach9gx0.jpg

The Schulminions are flocking to have fun in the sun!

    xbeach10xr0.jpg

    xbeach7xg6.jpg

The shoreline development flows well into the beach area. The plaza makes for a pleasant transition area.

    xbeach5sm5.jpg

The only Schulminions not enjoying the new beach are the cats. They don't like water. They prefer to stay inside and look out the window.

    xbeach1sd5.jpg

Inviting vistas tempt the traveler to stay a while. Even when approaching the port, one can see the beauty that awaits in Schulmanidad.

See ya here for your next vacation!

I'm thinking you perhaps misspelled "ferry" and you're talking about me in my younger days... Oh well.

Nice update. Beaches are purty. 4.gif

ROFL, I don't want to see Fledder in a bikini. 3.gif

Anyways, the vacation area looks great, but you need to readjust that pedestrian mall. Right now, people have the option of carrying their luggage across the beach or a ten-foot drop. Which one should I choose? 3.gif

Zelgadis    The money paid to Yellow Hat Realty has stimulated growth across Schulmania. There is not much of an income gap in the country. There are very few poor and not any super rich. Well, except for the Supreme Wirdle and her minions, of course.

Topcliff    A new auction shall be coming then! Once we all get to see George's Crossroads. Start saving your schulmonetas!

Homeandaway    Alex, new territory will be available at the next auction. Be ready to bid bid bid!

Shanna    Thanks! You may get you a house in Lake George soon!

Hester    I thought you were busy chasing yarn with Cristian!

sc4portugal   Glad to see you back! Where have you been? Come on over to Lake George - after your complimentary stay at Risa, of course!

Krio   Thank you! The cats like the sand beach, but for a different reason. Sorta watch your step over at Kitten Beach!

DioAngel    Thanks, sister in comedy! Glad you like it. I'll be happy to comp you a suite for a week!

Jacqulina    Thanks! You are welcome to spend your vacation here. In return for the J20K post (Jacky's 20000th post) you are granted Customer of the Year at Risa and are given a free week every year for life! Enjoy!

fledder200   Was that you I saw in the bikini running slow motion Baywatch style earlier today? Oh wait, that was April! Or, was it June? Perhaps, all 3 of them!! The three muses of Schulmanidad! Perish the thought!

GreekMan    We'll charge it to Yellow Hat realty - they made some huge commissions this month. They can afford it!

DioAngel   Pictures? That could prove verrrrrrrrrrrry interesting!

Zelgadis    Ha! Younger days?! You aint an old fogy just yet, Zel!

PhatHead    Thanks for coming by! Yes, it's time for a beachin' spring break! Party on!!!

Shadow_Assassin    Hmmm... a tough choice on the luggage. I guess that's why the bellhops are so popular. They take care of everything. Be sure to tip well!
