i could be wrong here, but the appearence of snow could also have to do with the steepness of the mountains. as in real life, i have noticed that the steeper the mountain, the less likely there will be snow.
i have run into the same thing you have, Micah, and found that using the erosion and softening tools on the mountains would smooth the mountain sides enough for snow to form.
in saying that, though, the back mountain looks like it SHOULD have snow. not sure why that is - but again, try playing around with some of the terrain tools to see if you can get snow to appear more often.
hope this helps

I have a couple of requests for the next version of CD's Columbus mod.

It would be nice to have a ground texture that didn't look quite so good. Let me explain...

With the game's default textures, the undeveloped ground looks a bit like low-wealth residential grass. It's something that you want to improve. So, plopping down the grass lots (parks) improves the overall look of an area.

The issue with CD's textures is they look like the lush grass parks to begin with. There's not much visual improvement when I replace some unzoned area with grass parks.

I'd like a texture that was more like the game's default texture, but with the extras that CD throws in (like the meadow flowers in some areas).

My other request is for more tree variation when using the generic god mode tree tool. Currently, in low-laying areas, I get mostly shore pines and oak/maple forest. It would be nice to get a mix of some of the other trees, without having to manually plop them. There's so many nice trees, that it's a shame I usually only see 1 or 2 kinds.

The mountain now contains more snow thanks to MrCinatit. But you will notice the other mountians still don't have snow. The second main mountain and the mountain range in the back don't have snow, but yet, they are much taller and more smoother.

How come they do not show snow (And yes, I did install it with the lower snow capped mountain mod)?

P.S.: I agree with Bones1. The grass looks like the grass when someone abandons the home or building. Sorry, I'm not trying to be rude, but I couldn't think of a better descripition.45.gif

I'm not sure if this is the definitive answer; but I have been using this mod for a bit and it seems the slope of the mountain comes into play. The steeper the slope, the less snow it will have. Try flattening the top of your mountain slightly to see if it makes a difference.

yes I agree the steaper the mountianside the less snow you will have... here is an example

<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//LNX_Final_ShireUpdate_Dec25_05_003.JPG align=baseline>
if you look close you will see that if you flatten or create platues you will have more snow show up that is what I have done here with my shire map.

I will have to check and see about the tree's.

I really like the Mod it works much better than the one we had before.

O I did notice one other thing this mod seems to have changed elevations becasue when I rendered this map with the old grey I used before installing this mod it made it all water I had to take the main map and use a lighter color for the ground before getting the grass to show...

*edit**
To get this set of mods to work right I del all the plugins I had in both plugin folders it. Reason is the tree's would not work so I must have had another modd that interfeared same with the snow . I will be working with my Cj today so I will check with the tree's I did click the one for a variety of trees in god mode.

ok went and did some terraforming...

Results

Snow if you flatten or smooth the mountians you will get snow... current mod I am using

<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//snowmodd_0001.jpg align=baseline>

this is a pic of the results
<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//LNX_FarMountians_1_1_06_1c.JPG align=baseline>
as you can if you flatten parts of it or use the smooth tool you will get more snow...

Next pic is the trees I am using the Gen set of tree's which is suppose to give you a variety of trees now this works great in the lower parts of the terrain...

Look below
<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//LNX_FarMountians_1_1_06_1b.JPG align=baseline>
as you can see you have alot of brush and both pine and normal tree's BTW: I love the ground textures they look great and fit well with my current CJ..

Now the next pic which I think some one may have been trying to address is at higher evevations all you get is Brush and Pines I would love it if you or someone can make it so more of the normal tree's show up at the higher elevations...

See pic below for example of problem.
<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//LNX_FarMountians_1_1_06_1a.JPG align=baseline>
as you can see this is just brush and a few pine tree's

I have also noticed that some areas of the maps all you get is brush will post an example later...

BTW: CD thanks for allowing your mod to work with pegs rock mods its perfect... Your snow works perfect in my opinion as does your ground textures My only request is

More tree's to be placed in some bare spots and in the higher elevations..

In case you do not know what this is all about, this is a thread of Cycledogg's Excellent Terrain Mod. It replaces the default game terrain with a beautiful lush terrain 48.gif. Go Check it out. You will find a download link somewhere in this thread.

*EDIT*:

Oops, I'm a dummy - my eyes are not working right today. Indeed, my terrain has that same little strip of Maxis terrain at the snow line too.

Do you have any other terrain mods installed? If so, take them out. From your picture it looks like you have Teirusu's snow mod installed also, and it is overriding the Columbus terrain.

If that isn't it, then I don't know.

In the meantime, you can still play the game, it's OK to change terrain mods in established cities. So when/if this is fixed, your cities will still work.

I'm wondering, is it possible to remove one tree from the tree mod? Specifically the redwood. I'm using the generic with all the trees, but I'd like to remove just the redwoods. I havnt figured out the reader yet.

there appear to be other alternatives on Devotion that give the Colombus effect, but with more variation.
