The area is so realistic and just looks great, especially since it is autumn.

ComputerGuy890100: Thanks a lot, my friend! I still have to adjust the lots a bit, but once I've let my AIN buddies have their fun with these relots, I'll be sure to get them up on the STEX.

Raysfan16: Thank you! There are several architectural styles in this neighborhood for a couple of reasons. First, although this is a majority Greek neighborhood, it's still in an American-style city. Greektown has only really been Greek since about the early 1900s, so there are plenty of older American-style buildings in it. Also, Nyhaven's early inhabitants came from many different places, and these places continued to have an influence on local architecture for quite some time. Finally, I just like having a lot of architectural diversity in my inner city neighborhoods, so there you go 3.gif

TekindusT: Thanks! As I explained to Raysfan, I like architectural diversity in my cities, so I'm happy that you like how it looks. A sepia tome might be interesting, but given that some of the buildings in that picture are fairly recent, I don't think it would be appropriate here. Thanks for the suggestion, though!

GreekMan: I thought you might like it, Chris. Thanks for stopping by and offering your kind words!

kingdiz_55: Thank you! I suppose it wouldn't hurt if I checked out that persistent automata mod I've seen mentioned elsewhere...

jacqulina: Thanks, Jacky! I'm glad you like how the area looks.

Bigbuilder: Thank you very much, my friend!

    Mayorm: Thanks!

    DCMetro34: Thank you!

I recently decided that the Columbus terrain mod, while beautiful, just wasn't quite right for Nyhaven - the region needed to be greener, since it's in the Pacific Northwest. I also saw the need for a new water mod, as the old SMP Paradise Blue was too light and too flat. So, I replaced both mods with more recent fare - namely, CP's Olympia terrain mod (with its associated tree controller) and a selection from rivit's Coastal Mod. Here's an example of what the landscape now looks like:

    special36a.jpg

    special36b.jpg

If you're wondering where exactly this area is in Nyhaven's region, well, it's actually in another region altogether - a slightly modified version of NHP's Seattle region. You might get to see more of that region eventually 2.gif

Anyway, these latest mod changes are no April Fool's joke, you have my word on that. I'm much happier with how the landscape looks now; it's much more like the RL Pacific Northwest, I think. It will take some time to re-render all of Nyhaven's region with the new mods (especially considering it's 16x8 large quads in size!), but new region views will be shown soon enough.

The new water texture looks great! Also the new terrain mod seems to be more appropriate, indeed 19.gif

It would be if you told us that you decided to start using the game default water. Anyway, your region does look quite nice in that picture. Now, if you had a picture of that same area, using your old terrain and water mods, we'd know just how much nicer your region got.

Really nice pic - I like the terrain mod, makes the whole coast part look really serious but beautiful at the same time

TmiguelT: Thanks! You'll get to see how Nyhaven looks with the new mods soon.

kingdiz_55: I'm glad you like it so much, thanks for saying so! I'm sure you'll get one tree controller or another to work - it just takes a little patience to buckle down and find the dependencies, numerous though they may be. Just keep looking!

Simbourgeois: I'm glad you approve of my changes, my friend. Thank you for stopping by!

wsperos: 30 St Mary Axe (it really is spelled with an X, not a V), also known as Swiss Re Headquarters, is available as part of a package of Caliban's lots on the LEX here. You'll need to register at SC4D, if you haven't already.

Korot: Ha, that really would be quite a joke, now wouldn't it? Thanks for your compliments! As for a direct comparison of the old and new mods, ask and you shall receive, at least in part. It so happens that I have a picture of a bridge in Nyhaven showing just the new water mod, which you can compare with an image of the same bridge (albeit from a different angle) from an old update:

    Old:

    upd11img10.jpg

    New:

    special36.jpg

TekindusT: As it happens, I think it was one of your earlier comments that inspired me to make this switch, so in a way, you're responsible for bringing about the new mods. Well done, my friend!

Cleaner475: Thank you! I agree that everything looks better now.

Mayorm: Don't despair, my friend! A new region won't mean the end of Nyhaven at all, but rather, an enhancement. My newly-installed maps, including this one, will one day be home to my versions of certain Pacific Northwest cities, which may turn out to be important for future large-scale projects. Rest assured, though, that those new regions will only be shown in my CJ, at least here at ST.

jacqulina: Thank you very much, Jackie! I always love reading your kind words.

A brief note: I intend to return to posting full updates in two weeks, but they'll be of a somewhat different nature than my usual updates. We'll still be following the life of Engineer Paul Franconi, but this time, we'll be looking at his life outside of work. This little diversion is just to give me more time to finish the King Zachary Tower; once it's done, I'll finally be able to go back to posting updates on city construction projects.

Recently, I decided that the University of Nyhaven needed to have a custom central quad, not one of the (excellent) quads that come with the University of Clayhurst set. So I made one:

    special37.jpg

This new quad has the advantage of putting the long axial paths closer to the buildings, so that people coming out of the smaller entrances can reach those paths sooner. It just didn't seem realistic to me that such minor access paths would be very long, and with the new quad design, they're much shorter.

I really like the Clayhurst University. It looks realistic. Especially with those trees. 3.gif I had to plop the trees in mayor mode.

Yes, I agree with the previous comments - University looks really good 19.gif

Good decision to redesign the quad!

Nice quad, I like the symmetrical layout. And now I can truly agree with you that your new water mod looks much better then your old one.

kingdiz_55: Yes, Clayhurst is a terrific lot pack. I think it makes custom universities look much better than they used to look. The use of CP's trees really helps with that, I agree with you there. Thanks for stopping by!

ComputerGuy890100: Thank you! I'm glad you like the redesign so much. As for the church, it's actually part of the university campus - it's the chapel. Come back soon, my friend!

Simbourgeois: Merci, mon ami! It's great to have your approval of my redesign.

TekindusT: Thanks a lot, my friend! If you liked this change, wait till you see the changes I made for today's specials...

Korot: Thank you! I'm a fan of symmetry, too, so a symmetrical quad layout was a natural choice for me. I'm also glad you approve of the new water mod.

    Mayorm: Thanks!

    jacqulina: Thank you, Jacky!

A couple of months ago, while writing the commentary for one of my suburban mosaics, I was inspired to remodel Ridgeland Park. Due to the park's shape and size, this was no easy task - I had to create around 35 new lots (including my first MML), most of them with my very first set of custom overlay textures. However, after some three weeks of working when I had the chance, I was finally finished, and I'm quite satisfied with the final product. I hope you will be, too!

First of all, a look at one corner of the park:

    special38.jpg

These are the Greek gardens in the south of the park. While there are plenty of formal gardens in the remodeled Ridgeland Park, only these gardens have replicas of classical sculptures and fountains. They provide a little bit of culture in the midst of some otherwise boring suburbs.

    special39a.jpg

    special39b.jpg

    special39c.jpg

Across the street from the central area of Ridgeland Park lies Papillon Manor, which has been the home of the mayors of Nyhaven since 1836. The mansion has its own garden, but it's not unusual to see recently-elected Mayor Nathanael Fourier out for a stroll in Ridgeland Park. Mayor Fourier has commented that the exquisite gardens in the centerpiece of Nyhaven's park system put his own gardens to shame!

    special40a.jpg

    special40b.jpg

    special40c.jpg

    special40d.jpg

This is no small park, mind you. Ridgeland Park is a whole mile long from north to south, and it's a patchwork of gardens, woods and open fields made for the whole family to enjoy. Children and parents alike are fond of the park's folly tower, which the eccentric millionaire Edmund Andersen built with city approval in 1884.

That's all for today. Get ready for next week's return to full, story-based updates!

Although I saw your contribution on the "Show us your Mayors houses" thread, you've made my jaw drop (once again). I can't stop to stare to these Versailles-like gardens... Brilliant, amazing, I think I'm running out of adjectives...

The question is obvious: When we'll be able to download your work from the STEX? I bet your parks will make happy many players; they're BSC-compliant, with an MML, modular pieces...

That would be an act of simcity God...

How on earth did you manage to create such a complex arrangement of odd-angled pathway lots and make it work??

    This is simply amazing.
