Interaxion made some great points. I would still vote for London, though. China has some major issues that it's going to be struggling with as it gets closer and closer to super-power status (and yes, I think it's headed that direction). For example, by the time it reaches its pinnacle, China will run under a democracy and it will be fully capitalist. I mean, look at the trends in that last ten years. Local elections are replacing appointments more and more often, and this is bound to spread upward. As far as economics are concerned, China is now a capitalist nation hiding behind a curtain of communist mumbojumbo. The political and economic leaders in China have long-since realized the value in Capitalism, much of which is money in their pockets 3.gif .

I think the West should stop fearing the growing giant in the east and embrace the opportunities - economic growth elsewhere doesn't hurt the US, quite the contrary, if we react appropriately. As the wealth of the Chinese people grows, the emergence of such a large consumer market could be the single greatest opportunity for American business ever.

K, enough tangent. Something like a quarter of the world's money passes through London every year. I think it would make a fine world capital.

*Hello, page 13. How are you?*

I don't know!!!!! Everyone think that the capital of the world must be a Big city with billions of people!!!! But I think the best idea would be to make Bern, switzerland to the capital of the world. I would rather give this title to switzerland than to the usa, russia, france, uk, japan or germany.

But especially never to the usa!!!!!!!!!

New York. It may have a GDP slightly smaller than Tokyo, but the fact that the US' gold reserve is here, and economic policy of the Fed is implemented here, mean that a lot of the economic center of the world is here. Plus, the UN is the closest thing the world has to a government, and they're on the East Side.

I live in NYC and I am not Asian-American. As a NYer, I feel ashamed of Marla who stated that London was a "provincial town". Poor Marla -- London was pretty much "capital of the world" in the times of imperialism by Great Britain, and many people from most of the world the English "civilised" now live in London. You should really try to visit someday, and you'd realize how silly your statement wasquote>

How very true.

Lets all not forgot everyone typing a message here is doing so in English 4.gif The United Kingdom has some the greatest and most lasting influences in history. Yes, London was pretty much the closest thing we had to a 'world capital' for many many years. People from here laid the foundations for many countries around the world from the population to the roads and railways you use today.

But any way...

I have stated before that the world capital should be somewhere like London or NY. I see and accept your point interaxion regarding a western viewpoint. But I don't think Asia is really ready to host the world capital, it has a great deal of issues to overcome and rise above before it can be considered a location for a world capital. That does not mean westerners automatically reject their influence, growth and history.

Idk, i hope this doesn't come across people the wrong way, but, I don't think Asia is civilized enough for the world capitol. Now, I don't mean this as in asian people are monkeys, i mean this as in asia as a continent has not evolved enough to the point that europe and north america have. technologies that we've had for years are just starting to become commonplace, asia is still undergoing its industrial revolution, and there are still much more 3rd world/poor areas than in europe and north america. 25 years from now, at this rate, it may be the otherway around, but for now i don't think asia is near ready for a capitol. I think just for the sake of our sanity, it belongs in europe. 3.gif

Hold up. Asia is the center of the world industry. They have rapidly growing economies, large populations, and their cities - such as Singapore, one of the greatest cities in the world -

Asia is the center of the world industry.quote>

I wouldn't go that far...they may have a lot of factories and manufacturing bases but they do not led the world in industry.

The capital of the world should be Toronto Canada. Why you ask simply because everybody (excluding most Americans) likes Canada as if we were the Switzerland of the west (except we're not neutral).

Plus, if there was a capital of the world it would most likely not be in the U.S. due to the world despising them. It most likely would be in Z

Well firstly, Switzerland is a western country.......both in terms of geography and culture

Also not everyone likes Canada and not all Americans hate Canada. Also Toronto is by no means a world capital, Please, I've been to the place, its nice and all but nothing spectacular. I liked Montr

I know!! What about Germania??? Oh wait that city doesn't even exist lol.

I do agree however that a world capital should be placed on a neutral zone. I say we construct a world capital from ground up with the collaboration of ALL countries of the world and should be built in a place where it is NOT a country, like say Antarctica.

THIS is my vision for a WORLD CAPITAL :

Wait...that's something else....nevermind...

A world capital without those greedy Jewish bankiers—no Jews at all infact. That would make a lovely world capital. I wonder why they had to foil that plan?

Huh? Americans hate Canada? Not true at all... maybe those along the border? Idk.. that just doesn't sound right. Not to sound rude, but I thought it was the other way around: most Canadians don't like America because they don't want to become the 51st state.

Plus, if there was a capital of the world it would most likely not be in the U.S. due to the world despising them.quote>

Many harsh comments here... first of all, most don't like America's foreign policy, not Americans themselves.

His Jew comment was meant to be a joke... I think.

OMG

I think your actually serious...

What are you...Hitler reborn.....

I'm not even going to address the point with an intelligent reply regarding interest rates and consumers greed and banks themselves becuase I doubt you would either listen or understand. That is unless I blamed everything from AIDS, earthquakes to consumer debt on Jews

Okay...

Let's get back on topic to the Capital of the World.

I'm not saying anyone is bashing Jews, but anyone in the future who bashes Jews (which is a rule: no bashing of any race or religion) in this thread will have their reply immediately deleted.

Switzerland sounds good to me, they have a reputation for neutrality and I could get some chocolate while I'm there lol. China would be a good spot, but I don't know if people are willing to have a capital in a communist country. USA owes china about 13 trillion bucks, so I wouldn't say we're getting any better from here on out.

Hmm, there is only one true answer. We rebuild Babylon. Why not?, it was the worlds first major city, and its in a centeral location! (in Eurasia, anyway).

Switzerland has an absolutely horrendous reputation, with their dealings with the diamond trade, their banks, and some other less than praiseworthy professions that have found a home there. Also, you can't judge a city by it's nation; New York is hardly representative of the United States, for instance.

Jerusalem

IMHO it's obvious and without a doubt - at least to me.

I agree with many of the points above, especially Omnika (not about Jews) about the world capital being in neutral territory. However, it would mean that it would have to either be in Antarctica, aboard a ship, or a space station. Out of the three, I think a space station would be the most plausible-countries could contribute to it's construction and maintenance, like the current ISS.

Why would it have to be in a neutral country? It's not exactly like placing a capital in the US or UK would cause massive problems for opposing parties. Putting the UN in New York never really caused any trouble for the Soviet Union; in fact, it was kind of useful having the world capital in a place where they could easily establish their spy network.

Geneva, Switzerland. Not only in a neutral country but already seat of many international organizations.

Either Paris or Geneva.

Paris because it is already the center for international measurements, and Geneva because it is on neutral ground and the site of the Geneva Conventions.

I'd lean towards Geneva myself.

to reply to what some people are saying that Toronto isnt up there. Toronto is  the 4th largest city in North America, so if your going to add LA and Chicargo in their you should add Toronto.

I will say it again.

No present city can claim itself as the capital of the world. There is just too much competition and debate to justify one city over another.

Besides, the world is divided up politically into nation states. If there were no countries, just one collective civilization known as Earth, then we would need a capital city. It would need to be built from the ground up, and must be a collective decision by all the leaders.

This gives new meaning to the "Take me to your leader" praise. If an extraterrestrial ever said that, who would you take them to? I'd say the head of the UN.

Best,

-Haljackey

Having a "capital" of the world would be EXTREMELY dangerous

Think ofhow vulnurable the Entire World's ecomomy would be if all goingsons were held in one city

The World Government would also be vulnerable because every country would have the right to access this City

There is no way the World could ever survive under one capital

(just look at what happened to rome!)
