This building is looking great so far. I love the early 20th century look. It looks more like an office building than a warehouse to me, though.

It is also going surprisingly fast, as we all know your specialty is not finishing buildings 9.gif Hopefully this one will be out and about soon, can't wait!

Don't really have any suggestions to make so far, so keep it up!

Thanks everyone! I've incorporated some of your suggestions and new previews are below. I really like the idea of a water tank, but I was hoping to finish this very fast, and that would take some time. However, maybe I'll put a water tank on my next BAT! 1.gif

I assume the textures will need a little more tweaking, and then I need to add night lights, but I think it's almost done!

You're almost ready to nightlight it, but i have some doubts about the pink and yellow lines under some of the floors of the building.I didn't noticed them before, so i say that now.As for a possible water tank on a next building, i think that maybe you may need only four pillars, a cilinder and a cone over it to model that.Although a water tank may be an important part of a building, nobody really care about the details on it, so maybe even a simple and time- cheap solution like the one i' ve mentioned above can be good.

Hey nofunk. This one came together really quick! It's a beauty too. I like the details below the top floor. I would agree with Joint1 about the pink and yellow. It doesn't look quite right. If I were you I would take the batted corner sidewalk out. As far as I can see there is no reason to include it and it'll just needlessly stand out in game. Batted ground really should be used sparingly.

Maybe if the detail between those floors were just pink, or just yellow? I'd prefer the pink myself, the yellow is in the same value range as the window casings. And it' in keeping with the whole warm feeling of the main texture.

I agree, a water tower would look splendid on top of this. Something simple, even if the details look textured on, would be nice - there was a great building in one of the photos that Howling included in his recent post about city layouts which had a water tank, and I said to myself, "what a great little detail for a BAT." Was this one going to be I, R, or C? In any event, it's looking pretty damn good either way... 4.gif

Pink and yellow is right! Holy cow, guys! I've been working on my laptop, and I had no idea how much it washes out colors. Last night I hooked up my second monitor, and everything became clear. The limestone sub-cornice near the bottom was yellow! And some other things jumped out as well. I worked with Jason last night and we spent considerable time tweaking the textures and adding some new things, and I think the improvement is considerable!

I happen to really like the contrast between the limestone sub-cornice and the terra cotta cornices. I'm hoping that maybe you guys will like it better now that I've taken the yellow hue out of it and adjusted the terra cotta texture.

spa: the reason I modeled the ground beneath the overhangs is because there are supposed to be steps there. They aren't very noticeable in previous renders though, so I've exaggerated them some. Let me know if this looks better; if not, then I'll probably just go ahead and take them out.

madhatter106: While I really like the idea of a water tower, I think it would make the roof too busy. There's already a lot going on up there. But I promise to put a water tower on the next building I create!

Here are the new textures and (I think) the final version of the building!

    haddock01.jpg

(Then again, maybe not final. Looking at it right now, I want to put some awnings over the side (not the corner) entrances.)

Lovely! The textures look good, my only gripe is that the flashing and terra cotta look a little flat, but that can work well for a recently cleaned building. Similarly, the roof textures for the (what seems to be modern additions) utility shacks is a bit boring (and dare I say... I think I see tiling!!!), however, it is nice contrast between old and new.

Quite a difference a ill-adjusted screen can make eh? Good thing my video card came with color perfecting software.

Hey nofunk. This is a big improvement. Revisiting the textures made a big difference. I think it's fine now.I like the toned down bricks and the sub-cornice is definitely better as blue compared to yellow! I like the roof. The texture works (I can't spot the tiling myself) and the mechanical equipment is well positioned. The only thing I might do is add a few small random vents, but I wouldn't put to much up there. Looks close to done.

The green rim is excellent. The white rim still seems out of place though. Maybe add some green plating around it? Or else make it more orange? Or leave it - it's your BAT 4.gif

The awnings would be a good idea. The first two floors seem a little bland. Maybe a water tower would be a bit too much, but how about a small to medium size satellite dish on top? Or a smaller antenna? Nothing too big or too obvious. But something that does give it just a bit more character, a bit more contrast I guess. We've already seen pools, helipads and terraces up there. None of those would really fit it, I feel.

i actually liked the black roof better, we don't have many of those in the game. I do like the new render on the exterior wall though, more refined.

    Thanks everyone!!

Here's one more preview. I've tweaked the roof textures on the elevator penthouses, added some roof vents and awnings, and made a few additional modifications.

    This will be exported soon!

That looks done to me. The only thing that stands out to me is the roof on the main roof shedge. The stains on it are a little too strong in my opinion, especially the contrast between the dark and the lighter bit at the bottom left corner. I think it would be fine on most roofs, but this is a modern addition on an old building. It just looks too stained by the elements compared the the clean metal walls. I would make the stains a little less distinct and more like the roof of the smaller shed.

Oooh I love the new and improved roof texture - lots of variation and wear and tear makes it look really really good. I think this puppy is ready to be rendered and lotted. 4.gif

    Awesome Awesome.

The guy I work with is from Detroit, he's got a B.A. from Lawrence Technical or something like that. He's getting his M.A. at USF.

    Thank you everyone!

josefmayor: Yep, Lawrence Tech is a school in Southfield, a suburb of Detroit.

So I'm having a few problems getting J. G. Haddock exported, but no worries! I'll figure it out. In the meantime, I finished modeling the Maccabees:

    maccabees3.jpg

Unfortunately, many of the details are disappearing on this one.

By the way: THANKS TO EVERYONE who nominated the BSP for a Trixie!

Oh mah gosh! That front door is beautiful! its a shame about some of the details, even though they are melting into each other they still look fantastic. Is there any more junk on top of this thing (the elevator towers more specifically), or are you going to worry about that later? Anyway, this is... well you know.

Perhaps you can do a perspective render on those glorious ground floors, so we at least get to see everything you put down there 3.gif

I really need to start looking at Detroit more so perhaps I can get something started (depending on yea olde list o' projects of course)

Mental Images suggests in this document, for optimal detail enhancement, to enable a mix of ambient occlusion with GI or FG or both.  Personally I think it works really well, especially in shadows, but it must have a mia shader, likely arch&design for buildings or a shader based off of that.

This one is truly stunning. Both your choice of building and your outstanding modeling of it. Not only do you do justice to the original, but you actually do the building a great honor with this great model! Anyways, as SimHoTToDDy said, a perspective render would be most welcome, just so we can experience the awesomeness of the details.

    Great Amazing job as always!
