Thank you everyone! I'm glad you like the building. 1.gif

    Update...

So, I have halted work on the Maccabee's for now in order to focus my attention on a new building!

The Wardell was built in 1926 as a residential hotel, intended for extended stays. Famous impressionist artist Diego Rivera lived there while working on his mural at the Detroit Institute of Arts. Other notable guests included Bob Hope, George Burns, Gracie Allen and Raymond Burr.

In 2004 the building was redeveloped into condominiums, and are now known as the Park Shelton Condominiums. The building stands on the northeast corner of Woodward Avenue and Kirby Street, across the street from the DIA.

This project has come together incredibly fast! I started modeling it just last night. My current goal is to release the Park Shelton around the end of this month, and the Maccabee's next month. Of course, my plans rarely work out lol. So we'll see.

In any event, do you all like the new building?

Believe it or not, I was about to start on this building when I was poking around for some not-Pripiat inspiration. Glad you got to it first, I probably would not have given it what it deserves in the modeling department.

Looks really good so far, top notch once again,

Great choice! The Chicago/NY tilesets can use some more bigger residential buildings, and you chose a very interesting one. I like the footprint and the overall size, and seeing how good you have become, I know beforehand that I'm going to like the final result. 2.gif

oooooh I like this one! it looks very finely detailed so far. the windows along the bottom are excellent. and I would second the above that we do need more buildings like this. can't wait to see it textured! 9.gif

Thanks everyone! I agree that there need to be more of these types of buildings on the STEX.

    Update...

Here's a quick update of the Park Shelton Condominiums! I have finished modeling the bulk of the building; now I just need to add the (rather elaborate) elevator penthouse, and model some other details. The blank wall on the back will have a large colorful mural with the building's name (true to real life).

Here's a photo of the actual building, courtesy of Wikipedia:

    Hope you guys like it!

    Progress! Looking great.

After seeing that picture, you might want to thin those horizontal lines bordering the decoration, the are a bit to pronounced I think. Might have to wait and see the textures before you fix the size (I can see them blending in if they are too small), but its looking wonderful regardless.

Looking good. Todd raises a good point. The horizontal bars are strong in comparison to the picture. They might tone down when you texture though. They're actually fine as is, but they're just different from the photo and if you're being a slave to realty.... Anyway, really great work. I'm glad you still find sometime in between the studies.

bixel: Thanks! Yeah, I thought it was strange, too. And of course I noticed it after I modeled it the first time.

    allez l'om: Thank you!

    Jasoncw: Thank you!

    pingangster: Thanks!

SimHoTToDDy: Thanks, Todd! I think you're right. Originally I figured I would deal with the ridges by texturing them differently, but I think I will need to thin them instead.

spa: Thanks, Sam! You and Todd are both right, and I think I'll just go ahead and tone them down. I'm kind of amazed I still find time too since I just entered my final semester! How's school going for you? Or have you graduated?

    Update...

So, let's just say I'm much better at starting projects than I am at finishing them. I'm still working on the Park Shelton (until I finish it the Maccabee's is on hold) but last night I began something new!

Harking back to my Third Ward Lofts and Main Street Shops (but this time in 3ds and modeled better lol), I have started a new commercial warehouse building. I call it J. G. Haddock & Co.

    cincy01.jpg

It will be wall-to-wall in one direction (to the left in the image above) and should sit on either a 3x3 or a 2x3 lot. It hasn't been scaled yet.

It feels like I can count on one hand how many good W2W commercial warehouses like this in SC4, needless to say, we could DEFINITELY use this type of building. Looks great, some decoration, but generic enough to look good just about anywhere. Although it might be a while until you get any of these done ( the modeling alone might be a while 3.gif J/K ) they will still be days worth marking down on the calendar.

Anyway, I don't see anything worth pointing out, I like this one already. I really need to stop making my commie blocks so I can get started on stuff like this 3.gif

    Hello

I can't figure out how i can make things with the B.A.T.

I don't know if it's to much work but i'd like to ask if someone would like to make the Euromast, located in Rotterdam/

It's A total of 186 metres (610 ft.) high and untill the big mid-section it's about 100 metres (331ft.) with an internal diameter of 9 meters (30 ft) and a wall thickness of 30 centimetres (1 ft). you can find information on :http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euromast

    Thanks from ricardo-schretlen, Rotterdam, Holland

ricardo-schretlen:sorry, this is not the right place to request BATs.This thread and many other threads in the "BAT open discussion" section of the forum are dedicate to showcase custom content, but  you should not post request there. There is a more specific thread to do that, it is called "New official BAT request thread" and can be found at: https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=42&threadid=85301&STARTPAGE=1

SimHoTToDDY: Thanks Todd! We definitely need more of these in the game.

    Howling: Ha ha! Thank you!

jacqulina: Thank you Jacky! Hope you are doing well.

ricardo-schretlen: Thanks for stopping by! However, I don't take BAT requests. If you want to request something, please check out the official request thread, that joint1 mentioned above.

allez l'om: Thank you! Next pictures are below!

joint1: Thanks for providing that link for ricardo-schretlen!

    Update...

Tonight, J. G. Haddock & Co. got some textures:

    jghaddock2.jpg

What do you guys think? I think the main roof texture could probably use some improvement.

I agree, that's wonderful and i can't really wait to see more. For your roof, i may suggest to add a water tank over it, as you can see in many buildings like this. For the texture, i think you may add some dirt over it, and maybe some rust on the pipes and the penthouses as well.I believe that the whole thing is going to be a masterpiece, as usually your BATs are.

Very, very, very nice! Love the bricks and the upper rims. Can't say the same for the white one, really. It doesn't rhyme well with the more salmon-colored ones. And I agree with joint1, there's not enough water tanks in SC4 as it is. I think this building would be excellent in owning one. A typical timber one on a frame. But very, very nice indeed!

Try making the brick brighter and less saturated, and try making the terra cotta more pale.  Also, try making a new layer at the top of the layer stack in your brick texture, and fill it with the color of the terra cotta, and then lower the opacity, so that the brick texture has some of the terra cotta color in it.  This will help the terra cotta and the brick sit together better.  Also try slightly reducing the scale of the brick pattern itself.

The roof texture is looking pretty flat, and could use some larger scale variation, as well as a base texture (right now the texture is only small scale noise, and weathering).  I also think the weathering may be too strong, though it's hard to tell at this point.

The glass seems like it should be slightly darker, and less saturated.  Also, on the ground floor, the "floor" of the glass texture appears in the middle of the window.  In the modifier stack, click on the + next to the UVW Map, and it will expand to show the Gizmo, which you can use to move around the UVW Map.  And I don't remember, but I think on that texture the ground floors have higher floor heights built in.
