If you have iLive reader, use it to open sounds.dat in your program files SC4 folder. You can even listen to them!

Trevor, welcome to Mars.

We actually have a considerable amount of music for the beta but we'll be glad to listen to what you have. What we really need right now is someone to work on 'foleys' - sound effects. These might include any number of sounds like airlock release, sliding door, voices in the corridor, futuristic cash register or computer noises, industrial sounds, robot-like effects and so forth. If you would be interested in helping to gather these sorts of samples it would be greatly appreciated.

No I; no you; no 'why'.

Well, when you can get around the upload problem, please let me know.

I might compress the file into a .zip or .rar and try again.

And I can try and help with sound effects.

Just give me a list of what exactly you need, and I'll see what I can do.

i really have no idea what you might ACTUALLY be looking for, because the genre of mars hasn't hit the market yet, but i have four tracks on the net, and one of them might fit the bill. it's called "Shoot Sprout" and it's located at www.myspace.com/zevokes. if you want it, contact me.

Activity round here has dipped.

Have you guys gotten my piece yet?

If not, anyway to send?

And are you guys still in need of sound effects?

Just let me know (PM, email, whatever).

Hey SimSimius, yes I downloaded your file I think, I will check later at home. It will be used in the future release.

We definitely need sound effects. The most obvious ones that come to my mind right now are the query sounds for the BATs. Like for the typing sounds for offices, cashiers for shops, bells for houses etc.

Could you make a more sci-fi/marsish/ffuture version of those?

    I can have a go.

It would be very helpful if I had some form of list describing what you need, so what types of buildings [such as what kind of industrial buildings, etc.], any specific sounds you want, reward buildings needing a sound, etc.

I could then create sounds that more represent the kind of thing you guys want.

Also, what format shall I put them in?

I think the most important ones to change are the door bell sounds when quering Residential BATs. I located 3 different bell sounds so far. So maybe you can start with making 3 kinda residential door sounds.

Then as I mentioned before the cashier/tilt sounds needs to be replaced as well as some new office sounds.

Just query a R-C-I builing to hear the default sounds.

The format should be WAV. The WAV file should be in PCM format and have a 22.050 kHz sampling rate. To reduce size (some sound files can be huge), it should also be a 8-bit mono

I've spent many hours on SC4 trying to lsiten to, and count, the different doorbell sounds! 3.gif

I'll have a go at doing some, maybe, or maybe not, with a sci-fi twist.

I'll show you some samples when I've created them.

I think there should be a little more music. SimCity 4 Deluxe plays through 25 sound tracks for Mayor Mode and 10 for Region Mode. The music that comes with SimMars has less than 15 (can't remember how many exactly) tracks for Mayor Mode and only 3 for Region Mode.

9.gif BTW, I'm working on converting the SimCity 4 soundtracks to SimMars ones. You know, when you open Audio Properties you can pick which tracks you want to play, and preview them. I've converted one already, and it doesn't play as custom music (It's the one called Rigel Center, it always plays when you first fire up your colony). And then I changed my SimMars.exe program to switch between the SimCity 4 radio folder and the SimMars radio folder, and it works (the check boxes for all the tracks [except for Rigel Center] are grayed out and you can't check them). Also I don't know how to remove tracks from the box, so there needs to be exactly 25 sound tracks for Mayor Mode and 10 for Region Mode. Can't be any more than that either, because I don't know how to add them.

    (My 99th post, woohoo!)

“This special RSS Feed contains only FREE Music Making Software.”

If your VST host only saves MIDI files you might need this:
    http://www.topshareware.com/Free-Midi-Converter-download-68719.htm

Synthopia has some cool sounds, but not enough to make a track.
Note: You need an internet connection in order to fire up the MIDI converter I put a link to.

    No, no, no....

"Freeware" means that the program is supposed to be free. SimCity is not freeware. Internet Explorer is freeware.

"Demo" means that the program is free, but the real program isn't. You can download a SimCity demo.

"Demo" usually refers to a cut-down version of what you buy.
"Trial" refers to a full-capability version of what you buy, but usually is only good for 30 or so days.
"Freeware" refers to a full-version that is free and legal. When looking for FREE software, always use "freeware" instead of "free" because most websites use "free" as a marketing gimmick to make finding actual FREE software harder.

By the way, just in case you were wondering an XA file and a WAV file are the same in SimCity 4. (They have the same Type ID, but in iLive Reader when you add a WAV file you can set it to be either an XA file or a WAV file.)

And how about adding music status:

    • Track Title Conversion: Done for all of the music in the SimMars Music download
    • Tracks - Mayor Mode: 13 of 25
    • Tracks - Region: 3 of 10 (will check out the proposed)
    • Doorbells: 0 of 3
    • Sirens: (1?) of 3 (I'm working on one, but I don't hear it in the game! Don't have a clue what I replaced 15.gif)
    • Not sure what else, but there's a lot...
