I found a way to make a MOD that replaces the tunnel entrance model for new tunnels but keeps the existing tunnels like they are. So you can have a big variety of tunnel entrances for the same network if you replace a plugin file each time you need another style (same like with various godmode trees).

Other voices said this MOD is too complicated to maintain because files of the tunnel slope mod are touched (that means there have to be two versions for each custom tunnel entrance). Another alternative is to change the entrance model without any modding (changes the look of all existing tunnels) but I prefer to have more variety.

What do you think?

i think its awesome. I voted for the option to have a huge number of choices

Some people may not care for having to change out their plugins. but maybe they just need to learn to get things organized...

Could it be both? like there would be one mod that would replace the maxis and another one for additional entrances?

i personaly dont care for the ingame tunnel entrances and i love having variety. ithink its worth having to mange your pluggin folder for tons of new entrances. this is really cool what you are doing. thnxs4.gif

are there any sort of specifications for making tunnel entrances? How wide and tall should the entrances be? after mocking it up in BAT, it looks about 3 meters on each side is sidewalks so thats how wide the entrance is i think...

Also, can there be nightlights?

just curious, im not very good at BAT or anything2.gif

nightlighting on tunnel entrances will be nice, if it's possible. by the way, i voted for multiple versions, because those who only want one type dont need to switch out the plugins. and the CJ writers can move stuff out of their plugin folders to create the varieties. it's really not that hard work.

okay, i had nothing else to do so i made up this thing:

I know its not the best but its still okay i think. Do those lights that show in the day preview render stay on during the day? This is my first time doing lighting. Anyways, if the lights can stay on all day that would be perfect since tunnel lights are on all day...

its 1 tile large. for the lights the road texture is rendered.

BTW, can we make street tunnel entrances? i know with the NAM or some other thing you can make street tunnels but since they were never meant to be built there isnt any models for the portals and there is a just a hole in the map.

thanks. i'll do that. i guess i also should darken the texture since BAT lightens stuff and it wont match up right. Anyone know the right amount i should do this?

the only problem i can see with creating a prop family is that the entrance and exit pieces may not match up.

Hamster, the tunnels are controlled by the EXE as to which networks can have tunnels. Some of the slope mods altered the slope settings as to what slope a tunnel can be built on. This is how the street "tunnels" occur. The NAM doesn't affect the slope of the networks in any way. I tried to get a street tunnel to work but had no success. I could get the model displayed, but the traffic couldn't use it and it was useless in UDI.

No, a prop family can't be created.  The exemplar references the model file directly.

I suppose an "empty model" could be set as the official one, and then the actual models are overhanging on lots.  This way, you could have as many as you wanted.

i dunno if i like the overhanging thing though. wouldnt the area right in front of the tunnel need to be rather level for that to work? Because when playing the game without any slope mods ive noticed that when you build a tunnel it rarely is at the base of the mountain but rather up the slope a bit i guess because the base of the mountain isnt considered steep enough to build an entrance

I think u guys have a cool idea for new tunnel entrances/exits. I was thinking maybe to help with not having to switch alot of files around if u want multiple openings why not when u build a tunnel had a choice screen come up like it does when u build a bridge over water. That way you wouldn't have to have alot to choose from in the menus and u could have maybe a slightly enlarge view of thentrances on the choices screen

can't. unfortunately, that's controlled by the EXE itself, something the modders aren't allowed to touch.

except for the stark white base.. or is that intended to somehow let other textures to show? Of course I'm aware that's a sketch and you probably see the same thing, but what I was driving at is.."Is it white for a special purpose?"

I modelled an overhang a while back, unfortunatly i dont have it now but basicly it was a Rail Tunnel entrance based on the Great Central Railway between London and Manchester, it looked effective but still, not as drastic as replacing the whole thing.

thats too bad. Was it old fashioned looking? an old timey victorian stone/concrete style entrance for trains would be great
